Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?Except for the third strike great ab for puig
I just saw this on Baseball Reference (had volume down playing with kids during game). This blows my mind.I can't get over that there have been 22 HRs in extra innings in WS history, and 5 of those were tonight.
Microcosm of the game now.I can't get over that there have been 22 HRs in extra innings in WS history, and 5 of those were tonight.
Not unprecedented, although that is the only other instance before tonight. Hopefully, like that series, this one goes the full seven as well.you look at the hit disparity in this game and yet you have to feel like Houston escaped big time. Dodgers hit 4 HR and lose.
To further wow this: No prior *entire World Series* has had as many extra-inning home runs as tonight's game did alone.I can't get over that there have been 22 HRs in extra innings in WS history, and 5 of those were tonight.
I am not 100% sure about this, but I think I heard that there had never been 5 extra inning homers in a game.To further wow this: No prior *entire World Series* has had as many extra-inning home runs as tonight's game did alone.
Jansen threw three innings in a postseason game last year when he needed to and he hasn't been worked so hard in the postseason this year, I didn't have a problem with that or even with Hill only going 4. I thought he pulled Maeda too quickly, he is a starter and he has been untouchable but he pulled him after four outs/25 pitches.I don't fault Roberts' aggressive bullpen management at all. You should play to give yourself the best chance to win in the scheduled 9 innings and make the best of it if you end up in extras, rather than leave unfired bullets in your gun. Roughly 8% of MLB games go to extras. 2/3 of those end in either 10 or 11 innings. Conventional wisdom is way too conservative in saving assets for extremely low probability scenarios. He got his very well-rested closer in with a lead for a 6 out save. He blew it. Shit happens. He still had 3 relievers available heading into the 10th. One of them who had been pretty good soiled the bed. Shit happens. By the time you're down to McCarthy in the 11th, he's going to stay in until his arm falls off and you just take your chances and hope your offense comes through. I much rather be in that position than stick too long with a guy who has nothing earlier in the game and never make it that far.
Maeda has huge lefty-righty splits. They brought him in when they did because it was a run of 5 righties in a row, but they weren't going to leave him in past that.Jansen threw three innings in a postseason game last year when he needed to and he hasn't been worked so hard in the postseason this year, I didn't have a problem with that or even with Hill only going 4. I thought he pulled Maeda too quickly, he is a starter and he has been untouchable but he pulled him after four outs/25 pitches.
Are we sure #3 wasn't intentional? It's surprisingly common to see something in a baseball game that you've never seen in the thousands you've watched, but this one had at least three I can think of:
1) Five extra inning home runs, first time ever, regular season or postseason.
2) The ball that bounced off Taylor's cap directly to Pederson when it could have gone anywhere.
3) The Devenski pickoff attempt that only picked off Laz Diaz.
That's a really stupid and unnecessary comment by Keuchel.I guess it's only OK for Houston to celebrate their homeruns with emotion...
I’d love to know if Culberson thought he tied it.
https://deadspin.com/joyous-baseball-is-great-baseball-1819870562Culberson insisted later he was simply caught up in the moment, and knew that he didn’t tie the game, but couldn’t control his emotions.
“That’s adrenaline,” Culberson said. “That’s a good feeling. I never would have imagined hitting a home run in the World Series, and I did that.
“I pointed to my parents in the stands and pointing to my wife. I was just having fun out there, nothing more than that.”
In a series featuring Brian McCann on one side and Yasiel Puig on the other, it would have been stealing money to make a bet that something like this would be uttered at some point. And though it wasn't McCann who made this tremendously stupid comment, I do still expect there to be some dust-up between McCann and Puig. You just know McCann seethes every time he sees Puig's tongue.I guess it's only OK for Houston to celebrate their homeruns with emotion...
Asked around for this earlier today, you are in fact correct. Impressive note on your end!I am not 100% sure about this, but I think I heard that there had never been 5 extra inning homers in a game.
Not a World Series or playoff game. ANY game.
Astros rooter needs to start itWhere's the damn game 3 thread?
This is so fucking stupid. No he didn’t win the World Series but this was a homer IN THE WORLD SERIES you’re talking about Dallas. Complaining like that is annoying enough in the regular season where everyone gets on their high horse.I guess it's only OK for Houston to celebrate their homeruns with emotion...
