Rondo and Cousins back together! Hang in there, Anthony.Rondo officially signs with NO. http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/246911/Rajon-Rondo-Agrees-To-One-Year-Deal-With-Pelicans
He would give up at that point. He is already stretched thin as it is.It would be interesting to watch Al-Faroq Aminu try to guard five players at once.
Portland could be the most attractive free agent destination in the NBA, but they won't have the cap space to sign one until 2021. And they are over the apron and can't even offer the full MLE to a third tier guy. Anthony's deal is a year shorter than the contracts the Blazers gave to Crabbe, Turner, Leonard and Harkless. That's what makes him attractive to the Blazers. The problem is that Anthony does nothing to make them a more attractive destination and a move to get him will deplete their depth while making their defense even more porous (Lillard and McCollum tend to be turnstiles).
This blows my mind! AND the Clippers had two larger exceptions that he couldn't convince Doc to part with! Not only was Reed an active and effective backup big in Miami but when Whiteside was out it was Reed who stepped in for five games with a 15/8/1.5 line while shooting 70% from the field. I'm guessing players aren't going to be running to sign up for Joel Bell's representation anytime soon. I mean, Reed is barely making more than Abdel Nader is to be the Celtics 12th-14th man this year.Reed to the Clippers.
It's funny...with West on board the Clippers are making the sort of small moves that would have been great when they had CP3 along with Jordan and Griffin. Doc was just terrible at getting those sort of complementary players in.....and now the window for when/how that would really matter has probably closed
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/20124505/kyrie-irving-seeking-trade-cleveland-cavaliers"Kyrie Irving is ready to end his run with the Cleveland Cavaliers, as league sources told ESPN that the guard has asked the team to trade him.
The request came last week and was made to Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. Irving has expressed that he wants to go play in a situation where he can be a more focal point and no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James, sources said."
"James was informed of Irving's request and was blindsided and disappointed, sources said. Other members of the team have learned of Irving's intentions in recent days as well."
"How to handle Irving's situation is clearly complex for the Cavs, as James can be a free agent next summer. Irving has three years and $60 million left on his contract, but he can opt out of the final year before the 2019-20 season."
"By asking for a trade, Irving would be willingly giving up the chance to qualify and sign a "supermax" contract with the Cavs in 2019."
"Griffin understood Irving's desires for his career had to be managed and worked regularly both to challenge Irving and, at times, soothe him. Coach Tyronn Lue is also a strong supporter of Irving and has been a strong defender when his game -- which was sometimes more shoot first than pass first for a point guard -- came under criticism.
When Irving signed his deal, he expected to be the franchise player for the foreseeable future. But about two weeks later, James arrived from Miami. The sudden change of situation rocked Irving, and he has vacillated at times over the past three years about working as a secondary star to James and the original plan of having his own team."
My first thought too. Won't happen but man oh man are things lining up well for the Celtics long term.Crowder/IT/Smart for Irving works. Get it done, Theo.
If this is true, Kyrie has a wildly overinflated understanding of his talent. No team is going to win a championship if Kyrie is the best player on it.When Irving signed his deal, he expected to be the franchise player for the foreseeable future. I think it's pretty well understood that World B Flat is something of a moron, so I'm not sure that we should be surprised that his view might not make any sense. If this is true, Kyrie has a wildly overinflated understanding of his talent. No team is going to win a championship if Kyrie is the best player on it.
Edit: I suppose he's not technically saying that in the quote. Maybe Kyrie values having his "own team" more than winning a championship.
But if he doesn't want to play with LBJ, then stay if LBJ is leaving.Sounds to me like Irving knows James isn't sticking around in Cleveland and wants to get our early.
LeBron has a no-trade clause so he'd have to agree to the destination, and it doesn't sound like he has any interest in leaving this year. If he wanted to pull a Paul George he would have done so much earlier in the off-season.Would it be crazy for the Cavs to trade LBJ for youth/picks and start over? They could easily win the fan base over by saying they knew James was going to leave again.
And then he goes to LA?IT, brown, both next year's picks for LBJ.
To make the money work Horford has to go.IT, brown, both next year's picks for LBJ.
This. I think he simply doesn't want to be in Cleveland any more.If Kyrie wanted his own team, he'd just have to wait a year for LeBron to go to the Lakers.
He hates Dan Gilbert, has a house in Los Angeles and is unhappy with the Cavs' roster.I'm way behind so someone fill me in - why is Lebron leaving CLE next summer? the guy seems to want to move every 4 years
Yep.No interest in the Cs getting Irving. Save the assets for a bigger impact player. The delta between him and Thomas isn't that great, especially on D.
IT Crowder Morris works perfectly. To make the money work Horford has to go.
For Kyrie yes. Not LBJ.IT Crowder Morris works perfectly.
Meh, Cavs now are in pretty much the same situation Celtics were in 2013 - set themselves up perfectly for multiple championships over 3-4 years but due to bad luck only won one. Celtics fans still look back pretty fondly on those years so I'd suspect Cavs fans do as well, especially given how they won and the fact it broke their championship drought.Feel bad for Cavs fans. This is going to crap pretty fast. Hope they enjoyed that ring, it's going to be a while for the next one.
It does? Per NBA Trade Machine those three combined make just over $18 million. LeBron James is due to make over $33 million next year. Seems like the only way to not include Horford and pull off a trade for LeBron is to trade all of Crowder, Thomas, Smart, Brown and Morris. That's five rotation players plus (presumably) a collection of draft picks (including, at the very least, the Lakers pick next year). Of course, if you knew LeBron would commit long-term this is a trade that you do regardless, but it seems like the only way that LeBron would stay in Boston after next season would be if a LeBron led Cs team could beat the Warriors in the Finals. Would a Horford/Hayward/James big three (backed up by a shallow bench) have any chance of defeating GS? The answers is almost certainly no, which would mean that after cashing in all their chips to get him LeBron would probably walk after one season with the Cs...IT Crowder Morris works perfectly.
yeah my bad, I misread th epost and thought it was a Kyrie reference. Lebron isn't happening. It does? Per NBA Trade Machine those three combined make just over $18 million. I don't know. If the Cavaliers are certain LeBron is leaving after next season (and they might already know this) they have to consider trading him. And if LeBron is planning on leaving he'd have to consider accepting a trade. Next season could get exceedingly uncomfortable for all sides if they all know an ugly divorce is about to happen. Even if the return is only Horford and the Lakers pick, that's a lot of value for a player that you are one year away from losing for nothing. It also allows Gilbert to prevent LeBron from dumping him again, and all the negative publicity that comes of that when LeBron inevitably blames ownership as he walks away..LeBron is close to untradeable.
I think a LeBron trade will only happen if he initiates it and forces the Cavs to trade him for 10 cents on the dollar.
- He has a no trade clause.
- There are few teams that can clear up the cap room to get him without gutting their roster.
- It is almost impossible to work out a deal that gives the Cavs fair value while also protecting the team trading for him from the high probability that he will walk away after the year.
If he would waive it to Boston, the C's wouldn't have to gut their roster. Horford plus a couple young players and the Nets/Lakers picks would be pretty good value IMO.LeBron is close to untradeable.

Except LeBron can control where he goes, and if he tells Gilbert "I'll only accept a deal to the Lakers", Gilbert is in a tough spot. LeBron isn't going to want the Lakers to give up Ball or Ingram if he's going to go there and the Lakers will know they don't have any competition to force them to include one of those guys in an offer. It's like Melo to NYK all over again. If it's a deal that LeBron doesn't like, he just pulls his NTC and kills everything.I don't know. But if he really doesn't want to be in Cleveland anymore and plans to leave after the season he may be happy to accept any trade that lands him with a team that can contend. LA would be an unlikely choice as -even with LeBron - it's not clear that they have the makings of a contender. Their main hope for contention is to be able to pull in both LeBron and George next season. LeBron going to a different contender (like the Cs) would not only allow him to get away from Gilbert, but give him a chance at mixing things up in his quest to defeat GS. For LeBron, it would be pretty low risk. Barring injury, there is no chance a LeBron led Celtics team doesn't end up in the Finals against the Warriors. If this happens, the worst case scenario is a repeat of the 2017 Finals, which LeBron probably already expects if he stays with Cleveland. At least if he switches to the Cs (or a different contender) he gets a chance to mix things up a bit while getting away from an owner he hates. If in the end a LeBron led Cs doesn't do any better against the Warriors than Cleveland did, he takes off to LA and teams with George in 2018-2019.Except LeBron can control where he goes, and if he tells Gilbert "I'll only accept a deal to the Lakers", Gilbert is in a tough spot.
