We can already call the Lillard deal a win for the Bucks, then. Book is closed - no matter what happens on the court.Giannis inked a 3 year/$186 million extension

Looks like it. At the same time, the NBA is so weird these days that deals like this can also make movement easier. I don't think GA will demand a trade unless things get really weird this season, but this really doesn't affect his ability to do so.We can already call the Lillard deal a win for the Bucks, then. Book is closed - no matter what happens on the court.
Yup. Exact same thing happened with Holiday in late 2020. He was traded to the Bucks in November, and Giannis signed an extension in December. Winning the title 7 months later was icing on the cake.We can already call the Lillard deal a win for the Bucks, then. Book is closed - no matter what happens on the court.
probably. But if you are small market, non-destination city Milwaukee then getting three additional years of the best/second best player in the world is worth any cost you are allowed to pay. Nothing else matters as much as thatSo Giannis will use that player option again as leverage to demand whatever superstar is most movable in 3 years to come to MIL
Yeah, Milwaukee really handled everything perfectly.probably. But if you are small market, non-destination city Milwaukee then getting three additional years of the best/second best player in the world is worth any cost you are allowed to pay. Nothing else matters as much as that
Yeah, at the end of the day, a large % of stars are getting into their early 30s on the team that drafted them, which is a good outcome for the league.I am going to enjoy their relative lack of payroll flexibility as their roster slowly becomes Giannis, Dame, and a bunch of guys who won a fan contest.
But seriously glad the NBAs rules have led to this. Desirable outcome, rules designed for it, and it happens. Buy Adam Silver a nice bottle of booze.
That is a legitimately terrible trade package. I think Embiid is really overrated but I would be shocked if he couldn’t fetch a shit ton more than that“The New York Knicks are willing to offer a package that includes three key players, with Julius Randle, R.J. Barrett, Evan Fournier and Mitchell Robinson all available in exchange for Joel Embiid, according to sources. A trio from that group would be paired with two or three first-round picks.
Joel Embiid loves Philly. But he could love it from a distance if the James Harden saga ends poorly.”

Lol. Do *any* of the four guys listed have positive trade value? MitchRob, I guess? If Morey’s playing hardball over Harden, hard to imagine he isn’t laughing uncontrollably at the idea of trading Embiid for that pupu platter (even with all the picks presumably thrown in).A+ work by Fournier’s agent to get him mentioned there.
A couple of my buddies are Sixers fans, and they say Pompey's "reporting" is an absolute joke. Nobody takes him seriously when he tries to break news.Lol. Agreed. Obviously that deal would likely include a ton of picks and swaps. And Knicks have extra picks, but they are flawed. That is a legitimately terrible trade package. I think Embiid is really overrated but I would be shocked if he couldn’t fetch a shit ton more than that
He's gonna be 15-20 pounds heavier when he returns.Doesn't look like Harden will be playing anytime soon: https://nypost.com/2023/10/23/sports/james-harden-wont-play-for-sixers-for-quite-some-time/
In fairness, that proposed Knicks deal does strike me as embracing the tank. They could almost certainly do better picks-wise (as you lay out) but in terms of their remaining roster, I think they’d plummet solidly to the bottom of the league (I guess barring a leap into full-fledged stardom by Tyrese Maxey). If Philly were forced to deal Embid, they should be embracing the Tank, not trying to hang on to a package like the Knicks that could keep them in the top 10 in the standings in the East, but leave them as a complete non contender
Yeah, the funniest thing about the reporting was "two or three first-round picks". I'm sure that's going to get the deal done.Agreed. Obviously that deal would likely include a ton of picks and swaps. And Knicks have extra picks, but they are flawed.
Dallas 2024 (top 10 protected) . Might convert as a pick in the teens in 24 or 25, but a chance it becomes a 2nd in 25 (west is so loaded)
Detroit 2024 (top 18 protected). Will likely be a #1 in the teens between now and 2027
Washington 2024 (top 10 protected). Probably 50/50 this becomes a 2027 second, as Wizards look awful for the next few years
Milwaukee 2025. Likely pick in the 20s
Then add a bunch of Knicks picks, which are likely in the 20s if Embid gets there.
If Philly were forced to deal Embid, they should be embracing the Tank, not trying to hang on to a package like the Knicks that could keep them in the top 10 in the standings in the East, but leave them as a complete non contender
This is what i brought up before. How do you police cautious behavior ?
I'd be shocked if this injury were not legit. Nobody's practicing 'load management' on opening night. Everybody wants to start on a good note.
When was the injury? I saw Beal in one preseason game moving effortlessly and breaking down his man as if he played the 1 his entire career.I'd be shocked if this injury were not legit. Nobody's practicing 'load management' on opening night. Everybody wants to start on a good note.
Back injuryWhen was the injury? I saw Beal in one preseason game moving effortlessly and breaking down his man as if he played the 1 his entire career.
No idea, but what's the point of holding out a top-tier player in the opener? It's not like PHX is looking to tank this season, and there's no way Beal wants a night off before he's even played a game. I know you're big on conspiracy theories, but sometimes things are what they're said to be.When was the injury? If "sore" is all it takes to get around the new policy, then the new policy is meaningless. We'll see if Silver lets that happen. He certainly doesn't want to become a story on opening night, but in a few weeks...Unless I missed something, Beal is legit sore and nobody aside from one poster here is alleging anything sneaky.
From SI on 10/22
I agree that if players and teams are openly defying the league's stance there are likely to be consequences, especially early on.If "sore" is all it takes to get around the new policy, then the new policy is meaningless. Smart move. He knew the Sixers wouldn't let him travel but by showing up he prevents the team from fining him and/or docking him a game check. Everyone knows he's not playing for them again this is business posturing and I love that it's happening to Morey and the Sixers.
Hear, hear.I love that it's happening to Morey and the Sixers.
Yup, well done by Harden. He is an Operation Shutdown expert at this point.Smart move. With the Sixers opening in Milwaukee and Halloween right around the corner, I guess there was too much potential for James to show up tomorrow dressed like Yi Jianlian’s chair?Yup, well done by Harden. He is an Operation Shutdown expert at this point.
you KNOW that he will not try, and will probably actively hurt the team.
Love you, James.
If the Chair could jack 3s from halfcourt as soon as it got the ball. With the Sixers opening in Milwaukee and Halloween right around the corner, I guess there was too much potential for James to show up tomorrow dressed like Yi Jianlian’s chair?
The light alloyed chair? If the Chair could jack 3s from halfcourt as soon as it got the ball.
Have you seen the Doc Rivers interview? He said that over the first half of the year James was fully bought in to being the PG the team needed (he was and he was phenomenal, even defensively for him) then when he was snubbed for the All-Star game it all changed. Paraphrasing Doc, "He asked if he could play more with the second unit, (laughs) and I knew exactly what that meant."With the Sixers opening in Milwaukee and Halloween right around the corner, I guess there was too much potential for James to show up tomorrow dressed like Yi Jianlian’s chair?
