Who said they won't?Both the timing and actual idea of this seem bad to me. Why not just promote Flores?
Who said they won't?
If he is under contract with New England he cannot leave unless its for a head coach I believe.Or Flores is going to Detroit with Patricia
This is a great guess. When BB joined Parcells in NE, Al Groh was already DC, but BB became the assistant HC / secondary coach. My guess is Flores becomes the DC and Schiano linebackers coach/assistant head coach
Tanguay know nothing. He is a wannabee reporter. Is Tanguay someone that would really have this news over some other guys that regularly cover the team?
Tanguay has done years of Patriots broadcast work, routinely travelling with the team.Is Tanguay someone that would really have this news over some other guys that regularly cover the team?
I thought it just has to be a promotion. If he is under contract with New England he cannot leave unless its for a head coach I believe.
Flores obviously can make a lateral move, if he has the Pats' permission. And there are (at least) 3 ways that could come to pass:If he is under contract with New England he cannot leave unless its for a head coach I believe.
I'd be shocked if the Pats granted permission for him to talk to another team. They aren't letting him walk out of the building because he is highly respected from everything I read there and an obvious star in waiting. I'd rather pass on Schiano to make Flores the DC. He has earned it.Flores obviously can make a lateral move, if he has the Pats' permission. And there are (at least) 3 ways that could come to pass:
1.) Maybe BB doesn't love Flores for the DC job
2.) Maybe BB wants to do Flores a solid if for some reason he sees Detroit or somewhere else as a better opportunity (e.g. higher pay)
3.) The Pats get compensated by the team that signs Flores.
If Flores were to leave, I'd guess a DC spot with Arizona would also be a possibility.
That said, I think the "Asst Head Coach/DC" Schiano/Flores parlay is definitely a consideration.
Ask Eric Mangini. Is there an NFL etiquette or understanding for an out-going guy (Patricia/Josh) not to raid the club and steal the silverware as they head to the new gig?
Because some people think everything is a distraction. Every blessed thing. Even Brady’s dust up with “EEI. See for yourself in media section. Why is the timing bad? Media day is over, there's not a lot of time to be bombarded with questions, I'm sure Flores (if he's up for the job) knows they'll interview others.
Kicking ass on your way out is considerably better than answering Kyle Shanahan questions.Given that they’re leaving anyway, I’m happier to have them knowing their immediate futures are all set and now they can focus.
I have little doubt they will try their hardest to win.

If this is a thing I think we need to discuss the connections Schiano has to the PSU stuff. I’ve not read anything but about the uproar at UT when it looked like he’d be going there. What does the evidence look like for him knowing about Sandusky?
Maybe with all the roles opening up, Belichick sees an opportunity to add some new knowledge and perspective. Schiano was coaching TB not that long ago and his knowledge of the Big-10 guys would be pretty fresh."When I’ve changed teams in the past, you take the information and the knowledge of the players you have with you," Belichick said. "I haven’t been anywhere but here for a long time, so I don’t really know what anybody does anywhere else. We have (had) a few coaches on our staff, like Mike, like Josh, those two examples, where they had been with other teams and seen other players.
"And so maybe someone coming on here, staff can do that. Scott [O’Brien] when he came from Denver or Joe [Judge] when he came from Alabama in the SEC. You get that occasionally, but by and large most of us have been here. Matt [Patricia], Brian Flores, Dante [Scarnecchia] — we haven’t seen any other team, only teams we’ve practiced against. So, that knowledge base is limited. If you get it from somewhere else, you get it. If you don’t, go with what you have and do the best you can."
Obviously we have no idea what really happened, but that kind of hearsay should not be enough to disqualify someone from jobs moving forward. The backlash against him at Tennessee felt a lot like a pretext used to complain about a hire the fans didn't like from a football standpoint.https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/early-lead/wp/2016/07/12/greg-schiano-tom-bradley-knew-of-jerry-sandusky-abuse-at-penn-state-documents-show/?utm_term=.53b2bbba3615
The evidence is McQueary’s testimony that Tom Bradley told him that Schiano also witnessed Sandusky assaulting someone in the shower. Both Bradley and Schiano have denied the allegation.
So, there is NO "evidence." Just one person's testimony that has been refuted by two others.https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/early-lead/wp/2016/07/12/greg-schiano-tom-bradley-knew-of-jerry-sandusky-abuse-at-penn-state-documents-show/?utm_term=.53b2bbba3615

http://www.providencejournal.com/article/20151003/SPORTS/151009716Scarlet Knights head coach Greg Schiano would give Belichick “projects” — like running the scout team, watching tape or putting together film clips. Bill Belichick called it “a great experience” that also turned out to be advantageous for the Patriots.
“I’m sure that he learned a lot through Coach Schiano as I have through all my conversations with Coach Schiano,” Bill Belichick said. “And just the way he ran the team and things he did to prepare the team and so forth. Stephen and I have talked about those things as well. I’ve got some good ideas from some of the things that they did at Rutgers.”
Can you expand a bit on the ‘monster rouge on the recruiting trail’ portion of your rant?[hottake] Schiano is a dick. His TB teams dove at people's knees and he was a monster douche on the recruiting trail for Rutgers. Bill can hire who he wants, but for simply the reason that Schiano is an asshat I'd prefer he not be in New England. [/hottake]
They beat Syracuse for some recruits. Can you expand a bit on the ‘monster rouge on the recruiting trail’ portion of your rant?
Testimony is evidence. It may not be good or credible (in this case, it’s pure hearsay) but it is evidence. So, there is NO "evidence." Just one person's testimony that has been refuted by two others.
I was thinking the same.Flores could also go to the offensive side of the ball. He had one year (2010) as assistant offense/special teams coach. BB likes to get his assistants experience working in all three phases.
Can you expand a bit on the ‘monster rouge on the recruiting trail’ portion of your rant?
Not just beat Syracuse for some recruits, Schiano was well known to negative recruit in a really lousy way. I'm no snowflake, negative recruiting is part of the game, and recruiting in general is a cesspool. But when you're telling kids they'll get injured playing for another school I think that crosses a line, and that's among the things he did. They beat Syracuse for some recruits.
Volunteer debacle. To the extent its true, BB just interviewing him helps to wash away the stink of the Titan debacle.
It was U of Tenn. (not the Titans)To the extent its true, BB just interviewing him helps to wash away the stink of the Titan debacle.
