After Chris Paul agreed to opt-in on contract, Clippers are trading All-Star guard to the Houston Rockets, league sources tell @TheVertical
I assume he told the Clips he was opting out otherwise. It's a decent haul by those standards; Beverly and Williams definitely have trade value, and Decker could develop some if given a lot of playing time. Not a very exciting return for LA.
It's not bad considering he was gonna walk. CP3 gets his money, LAC get a pick a young player, a cheap tradable piece in Williams and Beverly. Not a very exciting return for LA.
quick, trade it to Indiana before anyone notices!RIP 2019/2020 Clippers pick
No, but Dekker is definitely not what I'd consider an exciting young player. Would guess Blake is all but gone now too. It's not bad considering he was gonna walk. CP3 gets his money, LAC get a pick a young player, a cheap tradable piece in Williams and Beverly.
RIP 2019/2020 Clippers pick
let's trade that pick back to LAC for Deandre! That's it? Clippertown
Does this mean price for Deandre went down?
maybe Decker means Brooklyn and Jessie to dance girls and Eric to the Rams?
I'm not sure Harden and CP3 are going to be a good mix. Both ball-dominant guards.
I laughed at the idea he'd turn down the money. Didn't even consider that he would talk Doc into trading him so he got paid AND got to leave.Remember all those super smart people here who laughed at the suggestion that Paul would leave LA...?
How much better than Beverly though?CP's gonna help cover up Harden's defensive inefficiencies though.
Not sure he covers them up more than Beverly already was. I think this could be a classic case of diminishing returns on offense. But Paul shot 40% from threes, that is always useful.CP's gonna help cover up Harden's defensive inefficiencies though.
Because Beverley didn't? CP3 is a great defender, but at best that's a lateral move from Beverley on that side of the floor...CP's gonna help cover up Harden's defensive inefficiencies though.
He must be. This is good news for the C's.I am almost never shocked by anything that happens in the NBA. This is shocking.
Blake Griffin is walking now, right? Why waste your last few prime years on a rebuilding team?
He may well, but its not a foregone conclusion. There has been plenty of reporting on the tension between Paul and the younger players on the roster, particularly Blake. Maybe he likes the idea of the Clippers being solely HIS team. Maybe Doc reminds him of the success Blake (and the Clips) had when Paul was injured and Blake took over the play making duties. Maybe he likes the idea that most of Paul's shots in the offense now belong to him.He must be. This is good news for the C's.
Doc Rivers agrees.I am almost never shocked by anything that happens in the NBA. This is shocking.

Between this and the Jordan trade rumors I'd say the exact opposite. West clearly sees the writing on the wall and is being proactive about a rebuild.I assumed The Logo was brought in to keep this thing together. Ouch. Clips will be back to the stone ages again soon. Doc to Knicks has to be in play.
There could be some additional salary filler in the deal that has not been reported if they are going to do this in this cap year instead of waiting until 7/1. Nene's soon to be expired salary gets you almost there. How are the Rockets making this work in the cap, exactly?
Edit: Just looked this up, if the Rockets renounce all their free-agents plus their exceptions it leaves them with just a shade more cap space than the difference in salaries between CP3 and Beverley + Dekker + Sweet Lou.
Yup. Not a seamless fit but these guys will make it work. And it also lessens the wear and tear of each since they can share the ball handling duties. An offense that was already fun to watch just got even moreso.Just reposting this from the off-season moves thread.
On paper, there is a universe where you take turns running PnRs with Capela or Harrell or with each other (when the match-ups permit) and torching teams.
Also, Paul had his best season from deep last year, shooting 41.1 from beyond the arc while averaging the most attempts per game of his career. Imagine Harden driving to the lane and kicking out to Paul who can either find another open player with a sick pass or more reliably drain a three than anyone else that Houston had last year.
I am not sure how much better this makes Houston but if they can make it work they will be a lot of fun to watch.
I am betting that Paul will enjoy D'Antoni ball much more than he did Rivers ball.
They are going to have to push this into the new year rather than finalizing before 7/1, unless there is additional salary going to LAC that we don't know about. How are the Rockets making this work in the cap, exactly?

Do they have assets to get George or space for Hayward? [/nervous]Best thing about this is how it will affect the rest of free agency. The Clippers can now open up a max slot, maybe even two if Griffin and Reddick both walk. Spurs probably shift their attention to Lowry or even George Hill now to fill the PG position. Paul George or George Hayward probably in play to Houston. Can't wait until Saturday.
What would they trade for PG???Do they have assets to get George or space for Hayward? [/nervous]
What assets could Houston offer for George?Best thing about this is how it will affect the rest of free agency. I'm not seeing a lot of assets but after seeing the pu-pu platter returns for Butler and Paul in the last week nothing would shock me.What assets could Houston offer for George?
