Trade compensation update: Browns get a mid-round 2019 pick from Patriots, and Patriots get DT Danny Shelton and a 2018 draft pick from Browns, per source.

When will Belichick ever learn?I like Shelton. Yet again we seem allergic to building a pass rush from the outside, but inn a vacuum this is a good pickup
You forget they couldn't really stop the run last year either.I like Shelton. Yet again we seem allergic to building a pass rush from the outside, but inn a vacuum this is a good pickup
Browns will be better but also have to factor in the discount rate of the pick being a year later. Love this. Our third and their fifth? So basically 33 draft slots. Different years but still those packs are closer than they appear.
I know you are being snarky but we are near the bottom in QB pressure more often than not. Just saying may be nice every now and then to knock backup QBs on their asses so they don’t, you know, march up and down the field and win Super BowlsWhen will Belichick ever learn?
Has that option been picked up, or is the ball in the Pats court?5th year option was 11.7M, so makes sense for the Browns to move him. Really good against the run, but they have a lot of interior D-line depth/
I like the pickup. I just hope that we are aggressively looking to address the edge tooYou forget they couldn't really stop the run last year either.
I'm sure they will be.I like the pickup. I just hope that we are aggressively looking to address the edge too
That being said...If we have an A secondary we can live with a C pass rush. So I'll take either a top CB or a pass rush. Can totally live without bothI'm sure they will be.
The offseason is just beginning. They fucked up royally on Bennett, but they still have time and resources.I know you are being snarky but we are near the bottom in QB pressure more often than not. I hear yaThe offseason is just beginning. They fucked up royally on Bennett, but they still have time and resources.
But he didn't get something else they need.Valentine was hurt, Branch is gone, we needed to add depth there. Defensive tackle is not a strength in this year’s draft and it takes a year or two to develop those guys anyway. We had an immediate need so Bill plugged it.
Its damn near impossible to make it to the SuperBowl damn near every year AND be near the top offensively AND near the top defensively.I know you are being snarky but we are near the bottom in QB pressure more often than not. Just saying may be nice every now and then to knock backup QBs on their asses so they don’t, you know, march up and down the field and win Super Bowls
I concede to your superior logic. But he didn't get something else they need.
Fail
Pats. Deadline May 3rd.Has that option been picked up, or is the ball in the Pats court?
indeedIts damn near impossible to make it to the SuperBowl damn near every year AND be near the top offensively AND near the top defensively.
Thanks. I guess that at least gives them some time to evaluate him during OTAs right?Pats. Deadline May 3rd.
This is not true at least according to footballoutsiders. 10th in rush rate last year. We had like 7 sacks against Tennessee in the playoffs.I know you are being snarky but we are near the bottom in QB pressure more often than not. Just saying may be nice every now and then to knock backup QBs on their asses so they don’t, you know, march up and down the field and win Super Bowls
It's a 2019 third-rounder they're trading. They get a 2018 fifth-rounder from ClevelandGood move. Made solid strides last two seasons. For a 5th rounder it’s a steal even if they decline the 5th year option. Hopefully he can duplicate his success in Cleveland.
The original thing I saw was a 5th this year and a 3rd next year. Either way still solidIt's a 2019 third-rounder they're trading. They get a 2018 fifth-rounder from Cleveland
I guess it would technically be a renegotiation. Happens all the time but not sure what the rules are vis a vis option years. So don’t pick up the option but try to extend him? Is that allowed under the CBA?
Ego and hubris. But he didn't get something else they need.
Fail
Might wanna get you sarcasm detector tuned up.I concede to your superior logic.
Patriots were consistently gashed up the middle against the run last year. Football outsiders had them ranked worst in the NFL against runs to guard/mid. Shelton should help with that problem.
I feel like the Patriots have made a lot of trades over the past three or four years where they traded for a player on the last year of their rookie contract. The more I think about it the more I think this is a 1 year deal.
They won’t pick up the 2019 option. Too expensive.
If he plays lousy, they won’t bring him back.
If he plays well, someone else will sign him for big $, but then that will result in a comp pick in 2020.
So it seems like a win-win. Even if he plays lousy the cost wasn’t enormous.
My response was also tongue-in-cheek.Might wanna get you sarcasm detector tuned up.
According to Kyed, the option for both DTs is "upwards of $7 million." I have no idea how any of this works, just throwing this out there.5th year option was 11.7M, so makes sense for the Browns to move him. Really good against the run, but they have a lot of interior D-line depth/
There's no chance they're picking up Dorsett's 9. I do fear that this means Brown hasn't progressed as expected.According to Kyed, the option for both DTs is "upwards of $7 million." I have no idea how any of this works, just throwing this out there.
