Dobbs is Kurt Warner for a new generation. Well, not that good, but it’s a nice story.

These drops by the Chargers were horrible, but it's funny to see how defensive the analytics/film community is of Herbert in contrast to how they react to failures by other QBs. And I love Herbert and think he's a special talent who's let down by his defense/teammates more often than not, but as stupid as the "he's not clutch, he doesn't win enough" narratives are, the constant martyrization grows tiring as well.

Sean Payton deserves a lot of credit. A month ago, the story there was Russ is cooked, their defense is heinous, and they're one of the teams that should be tanking. Now you have to like their chances of staying in the playoff race better than the Bengals'.

Herbert feels like an extension of Rivers. The analytics people love him but the important big wins never happen because of some weird circumstances that are not in the QB's control. I am terrified that the Pats' mastery of the Chargers continues and we lose a top 3 pick because of that game.

We discussed the Chargers drops earlier but this compilation.... that's like at least a season worth of horrible drops all in key situations, every one of those is both backbreaking AND just zero degree of difficulty.
First one was behind the receiver.

Second one was short of the sticks.

Third one he didn't throw high enough so the receiver's view was blocked by the D Lineman, and he probably threw it too hard.

Fourth one, would have been a great catch, receiver had to reach out, Mac sucks.

Oh wait, I think I did that wrong.

All of Mac's throws put together from the Colts game weren't as long as these four throws by Herbert.

I think it's mostly Twitter, and basically certain fanbases jump all over tweets about Herbert being excellent with dumb arguments so that leads to more tweets about why they are wrong. Herbert gets relatively little discussion on TV and such.

Its weird how bad that team is. I expected them to be good this year. I won’t make that mistake again.

I'm more of an ideas guy. My idea is to never have Mac start again.

Did you catch BoB's answer in his presser yesterday? Very non-committal about Mac starting this coming weekend. Sounds like they will split reps with the first team among all 3 QBs.
Yeah, I heard it. If it were up to me, I'd have Mac on the IR, so there is no decision to be made. BoB seems to be toeing the "you have to earn it in practice" line.

Of course, I'd never expect BB to announce his starter on a Monday anyway, just because it's BB and it's not how he operates. Why announce anything until he has to....

Your commitment to the bit is inspiring.
I was just fucking around. Obviously, I think all of those throws by Herbert were fine, but so were the throws Mac made to Parker, and the throw Mac made to Bourne, and the throws he made to Boutte, and the throw he made to JuJu, all drops, all at horrible moments, and yet, every single one of them has pages of people shitting on Mac for those throws. My only point regarding that, and this Herbert stuff is folks holding Mac to a different standard than we do when other teams players fuck over their quarterbacks.

The Chargers have literally been underperforming at least since Marty Schottenheiner was coaching them. How is that even possible? He was fired in 2006.

Playoff choking is a different animal than this. Marty was 14-2 and Norv Turner even won a lot of games. This shit going on now doesn’t make sense. Not hiring Payton seams dumb. Penny wise pound foolish.

Poor Marty. He specifically told McCree and the other CBs before that game not to try to return anything and McCree does it anyway and costs Marty his job.

We hold them to different standards because you can clearly see, plain as day, the difference between Mac and Herbert throwing a football, the kind of throws they attempt, the kinds of throws they make, and several seasons of data about the outcome of those throws. This is like showing Jayson Tatum missing shots and then Jordan Poole and wondering why we don't talk about them the same way.

This is probably because Mac sucks and throws lollipops and Herbert has a cannon for an arm and an ability to get out of the pocket and move around. His team also puts up points. LAC has lost games this year where they have scored 38, 24, and 34 points.Chargers have scored 259 points this year and the Patriots have 141.

Come on.

What the fuck does the difference between Mac Jones and Justin Herbert have to do with their receivers dropping a specific pass that is being discussed? That's where you keep going, but nobody is comparing Mac Jones to Herbert. We're comparing the receivers dropping the fucking ball.

To use your analogy, if both Tatum and Poole missed a free throw because the basket was bent, and we only blamed Tatum and ignored the basket being bent, but gave Jordan Poole the benefit because the basket was bent, that would be the analogy here.

It's an insane reading of a post where you see simply two names and believe there is a comparison between those two players being made. Are you really incapable of looking at that throw to JuJu and looking at a throw by Herbert that was dropped by Allen, and not acknowledging that both were let down by their receivers, ie. something outside their control, like a basket being bent?

That's the point.

Once again, for the cheap seats. I've never compared Mac Jones to Justin Herbert, or claimed they were anywhere near the same level (except of course in playoff wins). It's the goddamned hyper focus on thinking every thing is a comparison. It's not.

The only comparison being made is their fucking receivers dropping perfectly thrown footballs. It wouldn't matter if you or I were throwing those passes, they should be caught by NFL receivers.
