Well played.Kraft likes it.
I don’t watch much college ball but tight end in general is underutilized, right?Keene had 94% athleticism grade. PFF says he was "criminally underutilized" in college.
Stidham must be excited right nowBrady must be like wtf btw
What makes his ceiling “super high”?Keene is someone I mentioned at the beginning of the day as a late day 2 super high ceiling guy . I am so happy right now.
I'd rather just have taken Kmet and and saved the overpay picks and take two later safeties and an OL or DTIf you told me the Patriots drafted the highest floor inline TE and the highest ceiling guy not named Kmet (so Keene) I would have told you A+ draft.
NFL.com's writeup:
"Swiss Army Knife versatility performing in-line, as a wingback, from the slot, as a fullback, and even as a personal protector in pass protection. He's lean but well-defined and his play speed and competitiveness are both a plus. He will struggle against NFL power at the point of attack, but his ability to block in space and catch the football make him naturally suited for the H-back role, where teams can align him around the formation as needed. He should fit into a core special teams role even though he is surprisingly inexperienced in that area. He has the make-it-in-the-league play traits and mental makeup of a Day 3 target."
So a day 3 guy the Pats traded up for in round 3. That's ok...he's late enough in the round that he's nearly been picked on the 3rd day.
I'm fine with Burkhead being cut to save money. I want to see Harris play next year. Or in 2021. Or whenever the hell football actually happens again. This suggests to me that Burkhead will either accept a pay cut or be released.
Both he and Asiasi are good blockers who have YAC skills. What makes his ceiling “super high”?
Tom just couldn't do the "In Bill we trust." thing.Brady must be like wtf btw
Why? Burkhead plays a different role. Keene may be versatile but he's not a full-time HB.This suggests to me that Burkhead will either accept a pay cut or be released.
Thanks. Definitely seem like an intriguing pairing and much better than the crap we put out there last year. Both he and Asiasi are good blockers who have YAC skills.
Keene, Albert O, and Kmet were the only 3 TEs who had the athletic profile the Patriots covet (Asiasi had the size and length but not the RAS - he did have the 40 they like though).
Keene has some of the best YAC in the class. He is also a great contested catcher. His big issues are refinine inline blocking as well as route running.
Can Kmet play as both TEs at the same time in a 2-TE set?I'd rather just have taken Kmet and and saved the overpay picks and take two later safeties and an OL or DT
Nah, Gase is Sloth.Belichick is turning more and more into the mother from the Goonies every year. Gase might be his son.
Credit is all die to @Super Nomario but yeah Asiasi and Keene are about as close to ideal as you could get. Patriots have swung for 3 HRs so far today.Asiasi can help with blocking and Keene can be the safety valve.
I love that McD and Bill are making it easier for Stidham.
TE group was by far the worst in the entire NFL.Can Kmet play as both TEs at the same time in a 2-TE set?
They needed 2 TEs. They needed edge help. They needed to prepare for the next group of safeties. Not sure how this draft isnt making people happy in the pants.
I was just thinking pre-draft that Burkhead might be retained to do more work as a pass-catcher at H-Back or even TE. Now he's a likely cut. Why? Burkhead plays a different role. Keene may be versatile but he's not a full-time HB.
What you mean, nah? That’s the joke.Nah, Gase is Sloth.
Definitely looks more needs-focused than we are used to seeing. So to sum it up:
2nd - S Dugger - super athletic, freak athlete at S with huge size at the position. Versatile.
2nd - LB Uche - super athletic LB with good size and power. Versatile.
3rd - LB Jennings - excellent instinctive LB from a premier program, very solid fundamentally. Versatile.
3rd - TE Asiasi - great size, good speed, stretches the seams
3rd - TD Keene - good size, excellent speed, versatile, can line up anywhere
The Pats have had an excellent draft so far, and they still have a 5th, four 6ths, and a 7th - so six more picks over the four remaining rounds.
I know we all have our expectations, but damn, this feels like a really good draft for a team that needed one.
KickerSo where do they go in the 5th round, QB? Don't recall many going tonight.
