It is like 7000’ above sea level. I can accept it.We look totally gassed.
Yes, it would guarantee that Panama can't pass us.So a point on Sunday guarantees at least the playoff, right?
EYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY (mexico).I just realized the PA starts up a chant before every goal kick to try and neutralize the classic Azteca chant.
It was there for the taking, sadly.I'll take the draw if we can get it, but man what I would give for a smash and grab.
If U.S. beats Panama, then the U.S. goal difference goes to at least +10 also. The one caveat here is that head to head goals count double so CRC gets a +2 advantage for each goal it beats U.S. by. Basically what we are looking for is the U.S. to win and for El Salvador not to allow CRC to go wild.So beat Panama and we are in basically based on tiebreakers as the first one is goal differential and currently the US is +9 and CR is +2
Reports are that Shaq was called in yesterday after the Canon news. I guess I cam understand Gregg going with a known player in a pinch…but at some point, Scally has to get the call. It’s getting silly. Most important question for Sunday is "who is playing right back?" No Dest and now Yedlin is suspended and Cannon has Covid. Crazy that Berhalter didn't replace the Aaronsson spot sooner. I guess Shaq Moore could fly in and start? What did Joe Scally do to Berhalter?
This is a different, better team of course, but we did lose 4-0 at Costa Rica last cycle. If the US and CR win by the same margins on Sunday, then it'd require a 4-0 or 5-1 result from CR on Wednesday to leap frog right? That just seems so unlikely. A win against Panama all but punches the ticket.
This is all tactically correct, but I think both Gio's ability to absolutely dust that many guys and zero Americans keeping pace with him had a lot to do with it being minute 77 at altitude as well. There’s nothing more American than a player going in that run and the striker floats in space and tries to get on the back shoulder for a through ball while providing 0 passing options.
I know the game situation had the US thinking draw at that point but it should be impossible to skin 6 defenders and never have a viable passing option lol
Well, it's going to be a while before there's another meaningful US-Mexico game here. Automatic qualifiers in 2026 and in 2030 there's an expanded field, qualification will be a bit easier.Whatever happens… Azteca does not seem impenetrable. Never watched one of these where it didn’t seem downhill against the visitors.
Looks right. A draw Sunday guarantees 4th.I think that 2 points from the last two also punches our ticket? We’d be on 24, and the best Panama and CR could do if that were the case is 23 and 22, respectively.
Oh I know I’m just laughing because I used to make that same run all the time and drive my midfielders crazy. It’s like part of our DNA or somethingThis is all tactically correct, but I think both Gio's ability to absolutely dust that many guys and zero Americans keeping pace with him had a lot to do with it being minute 77 at altitude as well.
Also, after what he got from Pefork after selflessly setting up the open net shot earlier, I am not sure he passes it even if he had four good options in on goal.
Concacaf will have six teams at the World Cup starting in 2026 plus a playoff spot, so obviously we won't have a hexagonal round in 2030 qualifying. An octagonal could theoretically work with six teams advancing to the Cup, one to the playoffs, and one staying home, but it probably won't produce much drama. Concacaf could choose a marathon 10-team table like Conmebol, but I think we will have groups like the rest of the world starting that year.Roger Bennett with an interesting point this morning. Next time we play against Mexico with qualification on the line will be 2029. I’ll be in my freaking 60s!
