The Astros might enjoy tonight, but they also haven't added any significant talent to their system in 2 years. Punting an entire year of development is a really, really bad idea. I get the strategy, but you never see it happen for a reason.

Now if next year's draft looked as good as 2011 I might be there with you, but it looks about as strong as this one. Take the talent when you can get it.
Next year is being touted as one of the strongest drafts in recent memory.

Can't imagine Bregman ever actually plays for the Astros. Blocked by Correa and Altuve isn't a great place to be.

Do you have a link that says that? I've listened to a few podcasts this week that say otherwise.

Edit: and strong still isn't close to the 2011 draft. That draft was amazing.

I don't, sorry. But I've read numerous articles and chats the last couple weeks that have been pretty adamant that next year is far far stronger than this year. On my phone but when I get in front of a computer I will take a look for them. I know Law is one such proponent of 2016.

Here's a quote from a recent Grantland article

If you don’t tune in Monday, you’ll miss a draft that’s shaping up to be a weird one. “I’ve been covering the draft since 2009, and this is easily the weakest class in terms of quality at the top and quantity overall that I’ve covered,” Christopher Crawford, Baseball Prospectus’s new senior prospect writer, told me via email. “[ESPN analyst Keith Law] and I have both joked that we’d prefer to just skip this year and combine it with next year, which — on paper — is the best I’ve seen.”

I'm sorry are you a scout? We have both cited one article as apparent proof.  Stop acting like you know more about him because you found something that doesn't even counter my point.

I'll keep watching him because he's your dark horse.

I also cited his college home run total from his senior year in comparison to a widely accepted power bat. If you want more articles, fine. Here are a few.

The worst description of his power in that list of links was "sneaky solid-average power." The rest describe him as a power bat, with one saying "plus power potential." I stopped after two pages of a google search.

His college SLG by year was .509, .545, .576. He hit 31 home runs in 184 career games at Indiana. That isn't middling power. Then there's your description of his defense which is flat out wrong. Find me something that describes him as a below average defensive first baseman. I can't find a single source for that. He was a below average defensive third baseman who was moved to first when he was drafted, but there is nothing out there suggesting he'd be poor defensively there as well. Your opinion on Travis suggests, as I said above, that you know very little about him. You should spend some time looking into him because he's actually a very interesting prospect. He reminds me a lot of Kevin Youkilis as a hitter, actually, right down to having a similarly weird stance and swing.

As for Chavis, I don't see what is underwhelming about him. The scouting reports were, and still are, very exciting. I'm not going to dig up a bunch of articles here, but here's one you should check out to get you started.

http://www.overthemonster.com/2014/6/16/5816068/what-do-evaluators-think-of-michael-chavis

"I think he's very similar to Mookie Betts in a lot of ways," said one evaluator of Chavis. "The bat is special and will carry Chavis. Very adavances approach. He's likely ready for shortstop at Lowell. It's an odd profile because of his size, but he has a chance to stick at third with a plus bat and above-average power."

He's an exciting bat to have in the system, even if he's a long way off. As a high school draftee he's a project, but the tools are there for him to be a very good player.

Mlb needs to work on the draft, it's like it's held in someone's astroturf basement

Rumblings are Tate to Texas.
Probably the one organization that would benefit most from a top pitching prospect. Last two not named Chi Chi were Holland and Feliz.

So, you liked all the picks that worked out?

Weird.

;)
Not really.

They had 19 first round picks between 2006 - 2013. One of these guys has a WAR above 1 -- the immortal Daniel Bard. Granted a lot of these guys have had only a taste of the majors, but I don't think any other team has that many picks and that low a success rate.

I think what they've done outside of the first round has been good, it's not like their farm has been a weak point. But their first round drafting skills undoubtedly leave a lot to be desired, even for mitigating for factors like luck and at times high drafting position. I'm just frustrated at years of not really getting a real major league contributor (again, with the 2011 class being an exception)

Stephenson is thought to take a lower amount to sign, if he goes early.

So if Benintendi and Cameron are available, what says SoSH? Your responses will be saved for future bragging rights

“@jjcoop36: With the 6th pick, Twins will take Daz Cameron. Multiple sources.”
