Unfortunatley, this is the next item on the Bruins calendar. Draft is 6/26-6/27 in Florida. Lottery is this Saturday at 8pm. Bruins have picks 14 and 37 (Philly's 2nd). I guess if you're going to miss the playoffs, might as well do so in a loaded draft year.

Final CSS rankings:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/m_news.htm?id=761663

NA top 10

1. Connor McDavid, C
2. Jack Eichel, C
3. Noah Hanifn, D
4. Dylan Strome, C
5. Lawson Crouse, LW
6. Mitchell Marner, C
7. Ivan Provorov, D
8. Pavel Zacha, C
9. Zach Werenski, D
10. Timo Meier, RW

World:

1. Mikko Rantanen, RW
2. Gabriel Carlsson, D
3. Jacob Larsson, D
4. Joel Eriksson Ek, C
5. Michael Spacek, RW
6. Olivier Kylington, D
7. Dennis Guryanov, RW
8: Robin Kovacs, RW
9. Filip Ahl, LW
10. Jens Llooke, RW

NA class seems to be the more loaded side. Strome and Marner are being talked about as potential #1 overall's in any other class. Anyway, we'll start to hear more about these kids in the coming weeks as the draft nears and they go through the combine and everything. The Bruins should be able to get a very good player at 14.

Or we can get extremely lucky and win the lottery and have the choice of McDavid or Eichel.

For us NHL lottery dummies (which might be just me), is it true that the Bs can only pick 1st or 14th (assuming no trade is made) and that they have a 1.0% chance at picking 1st?

Yep. Lottery is only for the first pick. 99% chance they pick 14, 1% chance they pick 1st.

Thanks, that's what I suspected.  Winning the #1 pick would be just about the craziest thing that ever happened.  We'd all go apeshit while fans of every other team would cry that it was rigged.  MAKE IT HAPPEN.

To be fair, if it was rigged it sure wouldn't be rigged for Boston to win it.   Maybe Zona under the save the franchise rule they used when handing Crosby to Pitt.   Or really even though they have something like a 9% chance of winning, I am calling the fix when Toronto wins

Mock draft: http://thehockeywriters.com/2015-nhl-mock-draft-lottery-edition/

  1. Boston Bruins: Brandon Carlo
Ht/Wt: 6′ 5″/198 lbs
Position: D
Team: Tri-City (WHL)
Prospect Profiler Notes: Desirable monster sized defenseman who skates really well; understands defensive side of the puck, developing offensive side
Bruins go off the board slightly, but get the guy they want in Carlo – can he eventually ease the departure of Johnny Boychuk?

6'5" - 198 lbs?  I hope they draft a ham sandwich in the second round.
Much like Dougie, whoever drafts him likely keeps him in Tri-City for two years. And if he hasn't bulked up by then, it's the AHL next.

Between here and everywhere.
I want Provorov. I think he's exactly the kind of player the Bruins need to draft. If he doesn't, I'd love it if Crouse dropped to the B's. With the teams drafting in front of them - you can expect at least one or two top-10 players dropping to them.

If the B's pull the horseshoe out of hammond's ass and insert it in their own and somehow win the draft lottery, I totally say Go Eichel #1.   Otherwise, I think this organization has depth issues at pure scorer, so draft there.

You don't go Eichel #1,  that is absurd.     Now maybe you can make the argument the best move is to trade #1 down to #2 or #3 or even $4.

I know my dream is Bruins win #1, and work a package out with Arizona which brings OEL and #3 to Boston :D

The case for Eichel going #1 isn't far fetched. You can make a case that his season at BU playing against more seasoned older players is more impressive than McDavid playing against boys in OHL. But they are both impressive prospects and you can't go wrong with either.

Are people also playing the local kid angle? Presuming he pans, out maybe willing to take a lower than market deal to stay w the hometown team.

1%? So you're telling me there's a chance.

You guys want a jumbo D look at Wiley Sherman on Harvard. Boston drafted him last couple years and he takes up multiple seats in the classroom. Will be tremendous once on the team.

Just ran it 100 times.  Kings won twice, Boston and Dallas didn't win at all.

Boston won on the 261st try (by then, Dallas had won 5 times and LA 7).

We need to keep running it until we get it on the first try every try.  Luckily, we have a few days.

Twice in the first five tries.  Which means I've just ruined any chance of it actually happening.

I started doing some research on some of the prospects that may be available when the B's pick. I figured I'd pass along some of what I find. I'm going to skip McDavid and Eichel. We can have a separate conversation for them if the miracle of all miracles happens tomorrow.

I started with Lawson Crouse this week. Left wing for Kingston in the OHL, and he did play for Canada at the WJC's as a 17 year old which is rare (Seguin, for instance, didn't make it). There is a wide range of opinions on him. CSS ranked him 5th among NA skaters. Some people love him, some people hate him. He's huge- 6'4" 212 lbs at 17 years old and plays a power forward game. Most seem to be in agreement that he's a good skater given his size. The issue with him is his offensive production. This year he's 29 goals, 22 assists in 56 games. Less than a point per game in the OHL is pretty blah for a prospect. Guys ranked near him like Marner and Strome are close to 2 PPG's. In Crouse's favor, his team didn't score much in general (2.8 g/g) and they were didn't have their best player, Sam Bennett, for the majority of the season.

Anyways, he's a kid that could go 5th or fall to the Bruins at 14. He could be Jamie Benn, or he could be Zack Kassian/Tom Wilson.

A Stars fan did this profile making the Benn comparison:

Obviously would like Marner or Strome, but that is improbable.   I have doubts about Hanifin's offensive skills, and saw a mock with us getting Nick Merkley -- no thanks.  Also not a fan of Crouse, or the 7-10 NA CSB kids.
I do like Matt Barzal, and think he is a good fit with us.  Great production up to this year, and was injured so that cut into his production this year.

edit:  Even though he is 11th in NA central scouting, looks like most project him to be gone by 14.  He's also playing well

Matt Barzal is awfully impressive, wish I had the chance to see him in person this year. Kid’s got a ton of skill.

Probably fair at this point to project him within the top 10 players in the NHL Draft this year, can’t ignore puck skills like that.

Crouse would be a good choice but I sincerely doubt he will fall to 14th.  You just don't find that size, speed and skill everyday. And he did play on a somewhat offensively challenged team so I think his offense will come. If by some miracle he is still there at 14 you couldn't pass him up.

Hanifin is a smooth as hell d man that became BC's #1 by far by the end of the year. He'll probably become a Dougie-esque
guy with OEL upside.

I'm oddly confident about this. McDavid will be a Flyer.

Now if it was the Celtics, I swear they could have all the balls and still lose.

You wanna know something? I am a Bs fan and have no love for the Flyers but I've had a funny feeling all along that the Flyers are going to win the lottery. Don't know why.
