Understood. But it's hard to imagine these rules wouldn't favor the team receiving. If you stop the team on the drive, you only need a FG to win. If you give up a FG, you have four downs to either get a tying FG or a winning TD. Thus, if you're not in FG range, you go for it on 4th down everytime. And, obviously, if you give up a TD, you have 4 downs on every series to get the first down or touchdown. That's a massive advantage. That's the only reason I hedged, you only get the benefit if you've given up a TD and 100% have to score, so I don't know how those numbers would shake out.
So much smirking and tomahawk chops this weekend. The world is a strange place that seems to get stranger every day.
Yes but let's not forget they got hosed in last year's Super Bowl when Philly benefitted from the rule change on a play that got ruled a TD, even though the rule hadn't yet been changed.Complaining about the Hogan catch is rich. As SAS said, I believe the rule changed (in part because the Pats benefited from it last year against Pitt). The NFL changes all these rules because it helps the Pats, and then they end up benefiting from it in the future. I love it.
At least for the playoffs, I like a system where you just add another "quarter" to the game. If it's tied at the end of regulation, the game just adds another 15 minute quarter and you pick up as if it was a quarter change. Each team gets an extra timeout. And it keeps adding quarters (maybe they become 10 minute periods?) until one ends with a team ahead. What are the other options at this point? A rebuttal drive no matter what? That seems like a fair way to do it—back and forth until one team can’t keep up?
There's nothing "lucky" or "unlucky" about a neutral zone infraction. It's clear as day.Kellerman says the Dee Ford penalty was a "very, very, very, very, very, very, very late call". Watch the replay:
The line judge at the top of the screen throws the flag immediately after the snap. I know he just a professional troll, but lord, the narrative after these wins is so idiotic.
You're right. In fact, before the snap, you can actually see him getting ready to throw the flag. He sees it the whole time. Is probably thinking, "You dumbass, get onside." As soon as the ball is snapped, he throws the flag. Not even a split second delay. This is about as quickly as human reaction time can throw a penalty flag.Kellerman says the Dee Ford penalty was a "very, very, very, very, very, very, very late call". Watch the replay:

Or, you know, the team that loses the toss can play defense. Slightly less than 1 in 4 drives end in a TD, while nearly 40% end in punts. At least for the playoffs, I like a system where you just add another "quarter" to the game. That's not feasible during the regular season where games shouldn't go too long, but it'd be a good solution for playoff games.
Yes, this. Stop monkeying around with half-measures and play more of the same game, like they do in the NBA/MLB.At least for the playoffs, I like a system where you just add another "quarter" to the game. I thought Kellerman would have limped off with his tail between his legs by now. Instead, he’s still making a career on the Brady isn’t that good stuff? Pathetic.Kellerman gets torn apart by SAS (the first time I agree with SAS in like 2000 years)
But he's going to have the worst record of any quarterback to start nine Super Bowls ... EVERIn the end, the war was won a long time ago. Brady is going to his ninth Superbowl and he has won five already, largely by carrying the team on his back to get there. Everything else is just noise.
Exactly. The Atlanta SB ended it for good. There were still remnants after Seattle because of “should have given it to Lynch”. Last year he had 505 yards passing and nobody really remembers it because his team lost.Kellerman is doing exactly what a good talking head should do which is saying something controversial but that appeals to a certain audience. The reality is that Brady, for better or worse, is a polarizing figure. Whether he deserves it is besides the point. The system-QB, lucky narrative plays to an audience and Kellerman et al are in the business of garnering eyeballs/ears for their advertisers.
As for the Brady-haters, you will never convince them otherwise because their views have nothing to do with objectivity. We should treat those people and the Kellermans of the world like we do trolls here. Don't engage, generally ignore and laugh at their "takes".

As you know, those mea culpas will never happen.I have a question. When do Seth Wickersham, and all of the other "journalists" who spent months telling us that Brady and Belichick and Kraft's relationships were on the rocks, publish their mea culpas? Why is nobody talking about how Alex Guerrero was there yesterday, and nobody had an issue with it? Why isn't anybody discussing how Tom Brady ran Jimmy G. out of town, because Kraft had to tell Belichick that Tom Brady still had enough in the tank (personally, my favorite bullshit story of all of them)?
Months, for months last offseason, we heard this crap. And here we are, a year later, going to another Super Bowl, knocking off the #1 seed in their own house, and well, not a peep.
Despite overwhelming evidence that favors an opposing point of view, it has become exceedingly rare for people openly admit their mistake. Sports, politics, you name it: people dig in and simply refuse to acknowledge even the slighted degree of error. Kellerman might be putting in an act, but I bet he’s ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED TB12 is just not that good.I thought Kellerman would have limped off with his tail between his legs by now. Instead, he’s still making a career on the Brady isn’t that good stuff? Pathetic.
He really has turned into a vile human being. But I guess there is a lot of popularity in hate. I used to really like Kellerman on the radio 10-12 years ago. But he's a joke now.I thought Kellerman would have limped off with his tail between his legs by now. Instead, he’s still making a career on the Brady isn’t that good stuff? Pathetic.
Polarization gets clicks and ratings. It's an unfortunate development in our society in general but it is what it is. It's gonna make him money to keep doing it. It doesn't matter how wrong he is.He really has turned into a vile human being. But I guess there is a lot of popularity in hate. I used to really like Kellerman on the radio 10-12 years ago. Wait for him to turn it around and say he was only doing it to motivate Brady and the Pats. Fucking trollI thought Kellerman would have limped off with his tail between his legs by now. Instead, he’s still making a career on the Brady isn’t that good stuff? Pathetic.
Kellerman was the worst thing that happened to boxing since Mancini killed that dude.He really has turned into a vile human being. But I guess there is a lot of popularity in hate. I used to really like Kellerman on the radio 10-12 years ago. But he's a joke now.
Yes, but it piqued my curiosity and I learned something I didn't knowDelete: that was low even for me
JFC that’s SIX useless first and second down plays in OT.I just heard a stat on ESPN that I have to share:
Tom Brady completed 3 third and 10's on the final drive in OT yesterday.
This season, do you guys know how many 3rd and 10's Ryan Tannehill completed? 3.
Is it possible the Kellerman has a sympathetic TBI from covering boxing? I mean the guy is a zero when it comes to football.Kellerman says the Dee Ford penalty was a "very, very, very, very, very, very, very late call".

Anyone who bought any of that Guerrero stuff or Bob Kraft bigfooting the Jimmy G deal, OTA nonsense--any of it--I wish that they're cowering in shame somewhere right now. But they're not.Speaking of trolls. I'm happy we will now never hear another story about how Tom Brady skipped OTA's, and it's caused him to not be on the same page with his receivers, and Bill was pissed at him about it.
In fact, when they win the Super Bowl, I hope Bill just fucking cancels OTA's altogether just to troll everyone else.
One of the passes to James White was considered to have .34 yards of separation from the defender, tightest in NFL in 2 seasons. lolhttp://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=25818247
ESPN clip marveling at Brady’s pinpoint passing into tight coverage (don’t know how to embed it)
Thanks for posting this. Those passes were incredible in real time, and seeing the replays only makes it more nuts. The guy is a damn machine (and his receivers are not bad either).http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=25818247

The other guys get paid too, you know.JFC that’s SIX useless first and second down plays in OT.
FU McDaniel.
This is exactly what I would expect someone who pointed a laser at Brady’s face to say...I know nothing about these laser pointer things ... how high into the stadium seats could you sit and still reach him?
Stadium distances aren't going to attenuate them much; they're still a potential eye nuisance at several miles.I know nothing about these laser pointer things ... how high into the stadium seats could you sit and still reach him?
Exactly. This could even be moved to the “ask a pilot” thread.Stadium distances aren't going to attenuate them much; they're still a potential eye nuisance at several miles.
Even fucking lasers can't stop him.
The following is a JOKE. 100%.
Imagine if this was in NE. "Tom did you know about the laser pointers???"
