Great question. I don't see any of these teams even pretending to follow the Rooney Rule.So is the Rooney Rule dead?

Why would they be tempted to fire him?Carolina might be tempted to fire the guy within 24 hours of getting hired. It will make for some great questions at the intro press conference if the media do their jobs.
I get the sense that was BB was trying to burnish Judge’s resume for an OC/HC job, like how the Eagles made Harbaugh secondary coach the year before the Ravens hired him. It’s not like the Eagles were a top unit that year, 9th overall but 18th against the pass.Joe Judge LOL!
Well, he sure did wonders with the receiving corp this year...
What's happening is a bad look for the NFL, and simply bad for the NFL, no doubt. But unless you know every potential coach interviewed for the job, then this hot take is a jokeI don't see any of these teams even pretending to follow the Rooney Rule.
The Giants interviewed Kris Richard and Eric Bienemy.Great question. I don't see any of these teams even pretending to follow the Rooney Rule.
It's honestly too bad that KC would never let Bienemy leave for another OC job. If McD ends up in Cleveland, I would love to have him in New England. The Giants interviewed Kris Richard and Eric Bienemy.
I think it's tough to pin a lot of what happened this past season on McDaniels. I think the groceries were a bigger problem than the playcalling. Not that he was perfect or that I'm not still bitter about his calls from the 1 against the Titans.I'm less enamoured with McDaniels staying put this time than when he was heading to the Colts.
7 year deal according to SchefterEveryone loves Rhule, but a six year deal is crazy. I think they made the right call declining to match. Their alternative choice can be debated.
Going on the record - horrible hire IMO.
SameJoe Judge LOL!
Well, he sure did wonders with the receiving corp this year...
Special Teams coaches are undervalued as HCs, as the NFL's sole HC from that background stands testament to. Name an ST coach with a better track record than Judge.Joe Judge LOL!

Totally agree.Judge is one of the most bizarre hires Ive seen.
It's basically the same career path as John Harbaugh, who has done all right.Judge is one of the most bizarre hires Ive seen.
This is the same Kevin O'Connell that was a 3rd round pick QB by the Pats in 2008.View: https://twitter.com/rapsheet/status/1214598388341264385?s=21
I would be interested to see this happen if McD leaves. Really like him as an OC.
The Jets hired BB to be their head coach with the understanding he would stand down to coordinator if they could also land Parcells (which ensued). Just sayin'.Totally agree.
Cutting your teeth on a head coaching job in the NY market is a lot to ask.
Following the Kingsbury pathThis is the same Kevin O'Connell that was a 3rd round pick QB by the Pats in 2008.
Jerry Richardson's dead hand goes for the Baylor man.Cross the Panthers off the McDaniels list. They've hired Matt Rhule .
Oh, I hope someone asks that at the press conferenceThe Jets hired BB to be their head coach with the understanding he would stand down to coordinator if they could also land Parcells (which ensued). Just sayin'.
To your point, 117-year old Marv Levy could probably outcoach more than one current (or recently fired) HC.Special Teams coaches are undervalued as HCs, as the NFL's sole HC from that background stands testament to. Name an ST coach with a better track record than Judge.
Way better than MS St or whatever else was in his opportunity set. I wish him well.
Maybe one of the Maras would jump in with an indignant reply such as' "If we ever take ideas from other NFL teams, it certainly won't be from the Jets."Oh, I hope someone asks that at the press conference
As long as it's not "Here Comes Da ..."Get ready for the NY paper headline tomorrow, "Judge over Ruhle."
FWIW, the Judge hire strikes me as, at least in part, a positive reflection of the Flores hire in Miami w/r/t readiness.I’m happy for Judge. He was going to leave last year anyways, and he won’t be getting the opportunity to lead this franchise so this is a pretty incredible outcome for him. I figured the M. State job or following Josh to be coordinator.
A part of it also could be money. The Giants may not have wanted to commit that much money to a coach and settled on their 2nd choice.FWIW, the Judge hire strikes me as, at least in part, a positive reflection of the Flores hire in Miami w/r/t readiness.
Maybe, but a strong recommendation from BB could well be a bigger factor.FWIW, the Judge hire strikes me as, at least in part, a positive reflection of the Flores hire in Miami w/r/t readiness.
Harbaugh was also a ST coach, so there are two. Both highly successful.Special Teams coaches are undervalued as HCs, as the NFL's sole HC from that background stands testament to. Name an ST coach with a better track record than Judge.
Way better than MS St or whatever else was in his opportunity set. I wish him well.
that... was my point. Until Judge's hire, Harbaugh was the only one. And he's done well, suggesting that ST coaches are undervalued.Harbaugh was also a ST coach, so there are two. Both highly successful.
And $60 million! Plus the $8 million buyout to Baylor. That's bananas.7 year deal according to Schefter
True.A part of it also could be money. The Giants may not have wanted to commit that much money to a coach and settled on their 2nd choice.
Judge was also a coordinator. You can say it was "just" ST, but he's still running meetings and practices and deciding who fits best on what units and developing his backups and making playcalls and coming up with gameplans and preparing for situations and all the other stuff the "real" coordinators do. It's not clear to me that coordinating O or D prepares a coach better to execute the duties of head coach than coordinating STs.I always find it fascinating when a position coach is hired to be a HC. Not that every hire needs to follow the same path (position --> coordinator --- HC), but it really is a huge leap, for all the obvious reasons.
Someone has to acknowledge this fine work.Get ready for the NY paper headline tomorrow, "Judge over Ruhle."
Belichick was also a ST coach before moving onto defense.that... was my point. Until Judge's hire, Harbaugh was the only one.
As were Ditka, Vermeil, Cowher and LevyBelichick was also a ST coach before moving onto defense.
It doesn't seem to have hurt the Pats, in general, over the past 20 yearsI'm annoyed as a fan that we always lose coaches to poached jobs in the offseason. I know it would never be a thing but I feel like franchises who lose coaches should gain a lower end draft pick or cap money from franchises that hire them. When's the last year New England didn't have a coach leave in the off season, 2014?
