When they need a TD no less.how bad do you have to be, in the last 20 seconds, to let a guy beat you deep two plays in a row?
New Year’s Day 1995. I was hung over and pissed off. Bledsoe was 21-50 for 235 yards with 1 passing TD and 3 interceptions. The Patriots could not run the ball and they couldn’t throw it for shit either. The Cleveland defense was dominant that day with Pepper Johnson leading the way with a sack, an INT and 5 tackles but it felt like 50.It's a great bit of trivia. Who was the last Browns HC to win a playoff game? Belichick. Who was the opponent? The Patriots.
Hell, on the pass before that the guy was wide open in the end zone. What a clown.Greg Williams is a national treasure
Someone needs to do a welfare check on this guy right about now.
Agreed. No reason at all to have your DBs that close to line of scrimmage. The Jets tanked that last play. No question about that. Total tank job.,
I don’t think so, even if it was why wait until then to spring the tank? Ruggs could fall, you could actually sack Carr, who knowsHAD to be intentional. Man coverage????
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!Who ever blitzes in a Hail Mary situation?
No matter how well you plan and prepare, you need a bit of luck for things to go your way. When you're as good as the Jets are (at losing), these things tend to work out.I don’t think so, even if it was why wait until then to spring the tank? Ruggs could fall, you could actually sack Carr, who knows
Why? The Jets lost. That's what he wanted.Someone needs to do a welfare check on this guy right about now.
It's fun to joke about tanking, but it's just not possible in the NFL (for the reason you've noted, among others). The most likely rationale is that the players on the field and the coaches on the sideline are sub-replacement level, which is how you end up with plays like that one when lining up across from a legitimate team.I always doubted that they players on a crap team ever wanted to tank. What's in it for them?
How is Gregg Williams not fired immediately? That is an indefensible defensive playcall. It's fun to joke about tanking, but it's just not possible in the NFL (for the reason you've noted, among others). Nah, he wanted the L for the tankSomeone needs to do a welfare check on this guy right about now.
If he's still alive after that.Gonna miss Joe Benigno tomorrow. Maybe they can get him to call in.
Not so sure. All the blatant defensive holding calls on the last drive to extend the drive and the last all out blitz? Who does that? Even with the all out blitz they didn’t get close to Carr and man to man on Ruggs is a disaster waiting to happen.I don’t think so, even if it was why wait until then to spring the tank? They forced a turnover on downs just plays before. All of this part of the grand tanking plan? They’re so good they can literally cover their tracks with intermittent game altering plays! Not so sure. And they went for it on 4th and goal right before that when they could have taken the FG to tie if they were trying to lose. They forced a turnover on downs just plays before.
