I'm not sure that most of today's pitchers have matriculated in that class. There is a school of thought that sometimes the first pitch is a get me over fastball

Bruce Bochy magic (TM)What’s with all the Eovaldi love? He was terrible in September. He had a fantastic opening round start, and I love the guy, but I could totally see the Orioles lighting him up like the fourth of Jugly.
In fairness, 3 of the 4 are Arod, Jeter and Vaz and the fourth one played in the ALE.Everyone on this stupid panel predicted a Baltimore win this afternoon.
Man, I'm old. I remember when Yankees thought Hicks had promise.Who had Aaron Hicks with 5 RBIs and BAL losing today?
You’re younger than meMan, I'm old. I remember when Yankees thought Hicks had promise.
I’m getting old enough that I’m happy to appreciate him. I like watching really good baseball and he’s really good.Damn, Altuve is so damned special. It's totally annoying.
I tuned in just after it, to hear that it needs to be copied and distributed to the U.N. Whay did he say?Did you guys know that was the best interview in the history of all interviews?
Literally nothing other than he had a game plan and stayed calm.I tuned in just after it, to hear that it needs to be copied and distributed to the U.N. Whay did he say?
Weird that other pitchers haven’t figured that out.Literally nothing other than he had a game plan and stayed calm.
JD Drew nods approvingly.Correa's contract looked bad all season and may be an abject disaster long term, but damn if he isn't lighting up the playoffs here.
Isn’t the basic argument that the longer the series, the greater the chance of the better team winning? And MLB starts with best of 3 and then best of 5.I’ve read a lot of articles about how awful the playoffs format is and that allows a bunch of bad teams to end up beating good teams….
I don’t get it. I’m all for the expanded wildcards
I'm guessing that's the issue... but the "better" team still gets home field advantage and likely will align their better starting matchups to their advantage too. I just don't get the complaint... so what if the "better" team throughout the season gets beat by a team that barely snuck in. It's not like any of the teams that "snuck" in were terrible. I don't buy that "bad teams" are winning this year, anyway. I know Arizona had a negative run differential, but they were a 100 win team with Moreno in the lineup, and most of their struggles (outside of their 4 game losing streak to end the season) happened while he was on the shelf. They play very good defense, their lineup is pretty deep (if a little young and inconsistent) and their starting pitching is a strength. They also have 2 or 3 really good bullpen pieces, which adds up to a solid playoff formula.I’ve read a lot of articles about how awful the playoffs format is and that allows a bunch of bad teams to end up beating good teams….

8 teams per league or across all MLB? As in just one WC from each league?I'm in favor of 8 teams in the playoffs, all best of 7 and the #1 seeds in each league to have 5 home games (2-2-3 format) in the first 2 rounds. All to make regular season valuable.
Don't like byes for rust reasons.
That only makes the regular season valuable if you also eliminate divisional spots.I'm in favor of 8 teams in the playoffs, all best of 7 and the #1 seeds in each league to have 5 home games (2-2-3 format) in the first 2 rounds. All to make regular season valuable.
