It's a major question whether they will keep him after this year. On one hand, he seems like a fantastic fit, especially as a lifelong Yankee fan, but Dominguez looks good in CF and should be ready soon, and Bader seems like he will get paid a lot in a weak year for positional player FAs.I'm giving it a month of real games before I pull the trigger but I think I'm getting a Bader jersey this year.
For sure. But Bader is just a cool dude. Reminds me of a way less annoying Swisher. It's a major question whether they will keep him after this year. "31 years" is a pivot from "I can't lie, that stat continues to impress me. And make me angry.
Well, Peraza is going to be the SS, which leaves all of Gleyber/DJ/Donaldson/IKF still on the roster for 2B/3B. Hopefully they will trade Gleyber and IKF and start the season with Volpe, especially since if they do that and he is in the top 3 for Rookie of the Year, they get a high draft pick.Do y'all expect them to do the service time dance with Volpe?
Are the Dodgers a landing spot for Gleyber? Lost their SS and salary should not be an obstacleWell, Peraza is going to be the SS, which leaves all of Gleyber/DJ/Donaldson/IKF still on the roster for 2B/SS. Salary is an obstacle. They want to reset the tax before a run at Shohei seems to be a common opinion. Are the Dodgers a landing spot for Gleyber? Lost their SS and salary should not be an obstacle
Angels? Trotting out David Fletcher right now, and appear to be intent on fielding a complete lineup to try and convince Ohtani to stay . ..Salary is an obstacle. They want to reset the tax before a run at Shohei seems to be a common opinion.
They absolutely should, Volpe is ready, DJ is healthy, move Gleyber while he still has value (2 years of control left), play the kids in the middle IF and DJ at 3B. How is Volpe getting into the lineup with Gleyber still there? They shouldn’t trade Gleyber.
Even the mildest oblique injuries seem to last 6 weeks. It's really hard to throw a ball or swing a bat if your side hurts. If they have to replace him, I hear Brett Gardner is still available.
Pretty sure you need to be top 1 to get anything right now - 2nd & 3rd were supposed to be picks in the International Draft, but there still is no International Draft. Big jump from the 28th pick the Mariners got for JRod & the nothing that anyone else got.Hopefully they will trade Gleyber and IKF and start the season with Volpe, especially since if they do that and he is in the top 3 for Rookie of the Year, they get a high draft pick.
Oh, good point, thanks. So maybe they will try to keep him down for a bit and get an extra year of control.Pretty sure you need to be top 1 to get anything right now - 2nd & 3rd were supposed to be picks in the International Draft, but there still is no International Draft. There are other incentives for top 3 in MVP or Cy Young within the pre-arb period, which seems hard & like it just awards teams for having transcendently talented players, but oh well.
Yeah, I looked it up, it is only 1st for RotY, but 2nd/3rd in MVP/CY get picks as well, if they finish there before arb eligible.Pretty sure you need to be top 1 to get anything right now - 2nd & 3rd were supposed to be picks in the International Draft, but there still is no International Draft. I think it would be more fun if they just gave you a draft pick at the end of the round of whatever place your qualifying guy finishes. & expand the ROY ballots to top 10 for additional fun. I would also get rid of the cap for # of picks per team (currently 1).Oh, good point, thanks. So maybe they will try to keep him down for a bit and get an extra year of control.
The Yankees aren’t in a position where they can trade their second best offensive player, when they need offense. They absolutely should, Volpe is ready, DJ is healthy, move Gleyber while he still has value (2 years of control left), play the kids in the middle IF and DJ at 3B. How is Volpe getting into the lineup with Gleyber still there?
There’s a solid chance that Volpe is better offensively right now, I don’t think you can really count on Gleyber for reliable consistent offense. The Yankees aren’t in a position where they can trade their second best offensive player, when they need offense.
Cabrera played center field sometime this week because I saw a clip of him making a diving catch. They can put Cabrera in the OF and start Hicks or Ortega in LF, Stanton is in that mix also as is Florial. Cabrera hasn't played CF before but he looked good there the other day and he hadn't really played RF or LF before putting up good numbers there last season.
I’m OK with that too, especially since it looks like Cabrera may be needed in the OF.Cabrera played center field sometime this week because I saw a clip of him making a diving catch.
As far as the Gleyber debate, I'm just wary to trade a guy who is one of our best hitters. Especially with all of the injuries that DJLM has had the past few years. I'd rather get rid of IKF and JoDo and then work the other four through the three positions.
They were going to be under the threshold, but Bauer was reinstated and his salary is back on the books. The Dodgers are already over the $233M reset number at $244M, so not exactly sure what they're doing. Gleyber would seem to have a number of potential landing spots, projected as a 4 WAR player, but I think Cashman doesn't want to sell cheaply.
We are all excited about Volpe but let’s not get crazy, he doesn’t even have a major league at bat yet. There is a long list of can’t miss top 10 prospects that have flopped. There’s a solid chance that Volpe is better offensively right now, I don’t think you can really count on Gleyber for reliable consistent offense.
If Gleyber, DJ, Peraza and Volpe all got 500 healthy ABs this year, I’d guess that Gleyber would end up 3rd or 4th most valuable of the 4, and he’s the only one of those four who it makes sense to deal.
