2024 Mock Drafts are more fun than this boring, awful Patriots Team

Tried 2 today,

1 where I took my QB at 3:

77752

Got a better OT at 34 than expected, but huge WR run meant none of the usual targets at 68 were there. Went TE instead and picked up a speedy slot/Z guy in Washington late.

Second was where I took the "what if they don't like he QB left" (in this case Maye) approach:

77753

Don't love it. Yes between the trade (got a future 1st and 2nd) and Thomas sliding I got a lot of talent. Of course still no QB, and no clear path to one.

I like the first one much better because my personal preference is QB + LT with the first two picks. Landing Sanders both times, was that just circumstance, or do you prefer him as a TE option? My understanding is he's more or less just a receiving threat and not likely to be a factor blocking in-line. Wouldn't hate adding someone like that, but generally like multi-role TE's. Would be curious what you think of someone like Ben Sinnott instead? Not as high a priority as QB/LT/WR - but could def. use some additional juice at the TE spot. Thought last year was the perfect time to grab one, but I recall there was a bit of a run on them and we missed out.

Just random. In the first I took him because there was nothing at WR and I could see him as a mismatch receiving threat. Second time he just felt like value that late.

I like multi-role TEs too, but especially if Henry isn't coming back, this team has room for a good sized receiving mismatch. I've seen some people say they think he has blocking upside, as they think he blocks well at the 2nd level, just needs work on inline.

Sinnott had a rough week at the senior bowl, it will be interesting to see if he drops a little bit (or rather, gets jumped by some guys who have strong off-seasons).

I think Barner from Michigan could be a late round (round 6-7 or even UDFA) guy to look at as an option for blocking TE with some red zone ability if the Pats want a 3rd guy. His size, wingspan and natural blocking ability make him worth a look. Presumably Pharoah Brown will reprise his role as #2 TE but having a 3rd guy who can in-line block and catch the occasional goal line pass would be a good under the radar type depth move.

It’s not a great year to be looking for well rounded TE’s early beyond Bowers. Decent group of H-Back guys or guys who are a little to slow to be starting “receiving” TE but who can help in the pass game in multiple TE sets.

one guy who is interesting to me is McCallan Castles. Don’t think he will wow anyone with his measurables or athleticism but I think he has upside and versatility in his game.

I'd honestly be fine with either of those drafts CD, given the death of offensive players and normal defensive replacements needed. Does suck to not get a QB in the second one, but we are pretty desperate for other positions too.

PFN changed their interface.
I don't know if they're A/B testing or what, but I've seen both interfaces. Sometimes just a refresh of the browser triggers the other one.

This is the model to slot the QB in later while building the rest of the roster. The OL is improved. Lots of skill position players added. Two developmental QBs with some later round defensive flyer picks. 3 future top 2 round picks added.

Who says no? Lol.

3 1st round picks in 2025, & 3 2nd round picks in 2025 to continue the (hopefully quick) rebuild. We still get 2 WRs to dream on, an OT, & young QB to see what he can do, albeit 4 years of control instead of 5.

I wanted to have fun with another team. Can this Bears draft get them into the Super Bowl within 3 years with Fields/JJ McCarthy at the helm along with the future capital I am getting.

I’ve done a couple of these now where it went Maye/Alt #1/#2. If that happened, I bet the Pats would see some ridiculous offers for the #3 pick.

I just did one where Fashanu and Nabors went 1/2.

I'm still not trading out of a spot where I can definitely get 1 of the 3 QBs. If you're playing the Cardinals and the Chargers off against each other for the right to draft MHJ and one of the QBs would still be there at 4/5, then go for it.

Traded down once in the fifth round for an extra pick there and a 2025 4th. Perhaps too heavy on offense, but if Caleb falls to us at 3, I want him to live.

Too amusing not to share.
Went in with the plan that I wasn't taking my QB, and I would trade down in the first multiple times:

77843
77844

Ended up with 5 top 50 picks, got two potential 1st round OT, 2 potential 1st round WRs, a potential 1st round IOL... and a DT who might sneak into the 1st. THen added good prospects at CB, ED, RB and TE....

Jacoby obviously my choice, I think he's better than all but 3QBs in this class likely. So if I don't get one of the top 3... why waste a 2nd on Penix or something (JJ and Nix went Rd.1) when I can get AD Mitchell instead.

Does kind of outline though how you either get your QB at 3, or you're trying to shoot the moon SF style.

It would be a shame not to come away with an exciting QB prospect, but, yeah, I'd sign up for this draft right now. It's an absurd infusion of talent. I love Mims, JPJ, Melton, and Sinnott. Sweat would pair nicely with Barmore. I'm less sure about Mitchell and Franklin as WRs, but you can't argue with their potential. Maybe find a way to throw Spencer Rattler in there? :)

Sometimes it falls just right--

I take a trade down to 8 and Maye is sitting there.

I get Maye, two WRs in McConkey and Polk, an OT in Amegadjie, pick up a CB, TE, and RB late AND get 2025 picks: ATL's #1 and #2, PIT's #2, and PHI's #7

Atlanta traded 1-8 and 2025-1&2 to pick who exactly at 1-3?

No wonder BB don’t want to work there.

Ah. I figured they were the ones who passed on a QB. I’ll be shocked if it’s not QBs at 1&2.

I don't know how to paste these beyond the crappy way I'm about to. Will someone please DM me as to how? In the meantime, here's a great haul for a Days 1 and 2 draft:

  • 3.
    Drake Maye
    QB North Carolina
  • 38.
    Patrick Paul
    OT Houston
  • 68.
    Michael Hall Jr.
    DT Ohio State
  • 71.
    Roman Wilson
    WR Michigan
  • 2025 TEN 1st

snipping tool, then copy/paste
Yeah Print Screen. It'll put it in Snagit or something or it will just go to your clipboard. Then you can open some old school shit like MS Paint, paste, crop, copy all, then just control-V to paste in a post here (or whatever it is that Mac users use).

There we go.

Had the first glitch I've seen of this kind. Miami asked for my #181 and #189 and offered #185 and something like #220. Why would it think I would make a deal where I would trade down 4 spots and 31 spots?

The value of Newton and Taylor taken at those spots was too good to pass up. Getting the 14th best player on the draft board at 38 and the 34th best guy at 68 is tremendous value despite neglecting the OL. This scenario gives us the QB and two DL who can team with Barmore to create a devasting front.

This one might be one of my favorites. I'd probably sit McCarthy for most of if not all of the 2024 to get stronger and to watch and learn. Tons of holes have been filled along with the capital to fill a ton more the following year.

So didn't plan on doing any more for a while, but decided to game out the idea from the other thread of what it looks like if you decide to pass on QB and make the trade the Vikings writer mentioned (Addison, 11, future 1st and future 3rd for #3)

PFN-
78107
So there would also be a 2025 MIN 1st and Jordan Addison (PFN trade logic is dumb when you propose, it wildly undervalues high picks).

Traded 11 for 18 and 49 (probably not perfect value, but it would be made up with future picks, whatever) considered Bowers/Verse/Fuaga at that spot.
I don't believe in Milton at all, but nobody I really liked on the board that late so he's the training camp punt.

Overall thoughts... come out with 2 potential stud O-linemen, an interesting edge who has real 3 down potential, strong LB, a suddenly decent WR corps if you re-sign Bourne (Addison/Polk/Bourne/Douglas) interesting TE and RB rookies and a LB built for this D... also Vaki is the most Bellichick player sad he comes after Bill is gone.

NMDD

Loved how the first fell with Fashanu, unfortunately none of the guys I love at 34 (JPJ, Chop, etc.) fell for me (lots of the 2nd tier QBs and WRs) so I traded back. No edge out of this class, but loaded up on OT, some solid defenders and Pearsall is a nice outside WR that late.

Love this one. Got the QB, a #1 WR, a plug and play center, a likely starting guard, a LB who will eventually start, a slot receiver and a skilled TE. Tackle will have to wait until 2025.

And one taking the QB with the 3rd. Traded the 3rd rounder to drop a little rather than selecting Fisher too early, and picked up 120 which was used to select a good slot receiver prospect. Defense will mostly have to wait for 2025.

First 5 picks should be immediate starters. A couple of developmental tackles later.
