That homer was the only run. Red Sox lost 7-1.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/boxscore/_/gameId/401576339

Every pitcher (Criswell, Weissert, Booser & Shugart) except Luis Guerrero allowed at least 1 run. Guerrero pitched 2 scoreless with 2 strikeouts, allowing a hit & a walk, & now has pitched 3.1 scoreless this Spring.

Heh, I am not doubting that model and everyone has been raving about Burdi, but it does make me laugh that Tanner Scott (who was fantastic for MIA last season) faced four batters a day or two ago against NY and walked all four.
But imagine how nice those pitches must have been...

He wasn't much better today against the Nats:

Single
Lineout
Single
Double

New pitcher.

His ERA this Spring is 72.00, despite the 2 runs that scored today after he left being unearned.

I'm sure they were stuff-tastic, jaw-droppingly gorgeous walks.

Wait, Shugart has 5 average to elite pitches by stuff+ and he still sucks that much? Fix him, Bailey!

I know he was one of the first cuts but it's a shame we didn't get to see Alex Hoppe in spring after getting a NRI. I texted him yesterday and he said his lat has been tight and they are slowly bringing him along.

Has anyone heard anything from Ft Myers regarding Justin Hagenman? He’s the guy we got for Kiké that wasn’t traded for O'Neil.

He made 5 starts for LA before he was traded. And at the time of the trade, Fangraphs considered him a prospect with spot starter potential.

His four innings of the spring look good and we have this new pitching program. I’m just wondering if there’s been anything else mentioned considering the desperate starting pitching situation

All I know is they don't appear to be stretching him out right now as he's pitched 4 games & 4.1 innings. He could certainly be a guy they throw in the Worcester rotation & have as an option. I don't think he really has the stuff for it & will probably be behind guys like Criswell, Murphy, Winck & maybe Walter for that role, especially since all those guys are already on the 40. But who knows?

I appreciate the response. I just thought of him earlier and haven’t heard a peep since the acquisition. I guess there’s a reason for the silence. But here’s to hoping he develops under the new regime!

How about any news on when we see Jansen? I am hoping for 2-3 healthy outings, a trade, and then a Monty signing.

He only went 5 innings once last year, doesn't have elite stuff & is 27. If he's part of the rotation this season, it's probably not going to be great.

Could see him being an up & down guy who can give them 2 to 3 semi-competent innings, though.

Feels like a really encouraging spring training, so far. Obviously minus the Giolito injury.
Yup. In terms of some interesting pitchers with at least 4 innings....

Luis Guerrero 0.00 ERA, 6.1 IP
Isaiah Campbell 0.00 ERA, 5.1 IP
Justin Slaten 0.00 ERA, 4 IP
Kutter Crawford 1.13 ERA, 8 IP
Tanner Houck 1.13 ERA, 8 IP
Josh Winckowski 1.17 ERA, 7.2 IP
Chris Murphy 1.80 ERA, 5 IP
Brandon Walter 1.93, 4.2 IP
Brayan Bello 3.60, 5 IP
Nick Pivetta 3.60, 5 IP
Garrett Whitlock 4.50, 8 IP

What is the level of batters those pitchers faced? A lot of players with little or no MLB experience get plate appearances in spring training games, especially in the earlier days.

But our pitchers may be refining a new pitch or the like. . .so it sort of goes round and round. Even so, it's good not to give up runs. I usually look at things like walks and homers. Thusfar I don't see any outliers that are concerning. SSS and all that, of course.
