That never gets old…a kid getting his first MLB hit in front of family and friends. Cool for him!!!!!
Thought the same thing. I especially love it when the kid is on base doing everything humanly possible to not smile, and failing miserably.

The offseason’s not over yet
Teams don’t win games on paper
Teams don’t miss the playoffs in April
Let’s see where they are at the All Star Break
The roster will be very different after the trade deadline
This is a multi-year rebuild, give Bloom the off-season to show what he can do <— you are here

Miami (oh, Miami!)
They're being 2 hit by a guy who is 3-15 with a 6.33 ERA.

They seem to get bushwhacked by every other random shrub they face.

The hitting coaches need to be fired.

I think they're done at this point. Sox are at 69-65. .515 WP. They'd likely have to get up to a .550 WP to have a chance. TX .564, TOR .545.

28 games left. To hit 89 wins, they'd have to go 20-8. With 7 games against BAL, 5 v. TBR, 3 v. TOR, 3 v. TX.

Back on 8/15 they had their wounded birds return, and stood at 63-56. .530 WP. The were within striking distance. 43 games left, and they had to go 26-17. Steep but possible.

Their recent play 6-9, did them in. They just gave away too many Ls.
The other way to parse this is that with 27 games after today, they have Paxton's slot 5 more times. And they can only lose 8 games.

I was excited to start tonight’s game thread because I thought I might get a little run going. Hell, the Royals. We’ll run the table.

Wow do I feel dumb.

It was the Schreiber game in Seattle. Team has been totally dead since then.
I have it as Pivetta shitting down his leg vs. LA. These are all arbitrary, of course, but there's several to choose from.

Speaking of pitchers shitting down their legs ... see Verlander, Justin

It was that second West Coast trip they had to make to Seattle and San Francisco. They had just swept a two game series vs Atlanta and were having a great July. The offense went cold, they came home and got swept by Toronto. They will be 12-12 since then after tonight.

Sox high point was 7/28, 56-47 after beating SF. 13-18 since. They had lost 3 of 4 going into the “Schreiber game”, then went 6-5 after that. 66-58 after sweeping the Yankees, about to be 3-8 since.

Blame Cora all you want, but this simply wasn't a good roster. I hope they're better next year. Sorry, that's being a pessimist. Maybe there's a wine for that.

Idk, they went 9-4 starting with the Fenway Royals series and then split 4 games in Houston after winning 17-1. The Dodgers series was mostly competitive as was the first Houston game up until Barraclough. It's been a disaster ever since.

Remember when Brandon Walter was untradeable at the 2021 deadline? Secret high riser? Or was it the 2022 deadline?
