Im not really sure what you are talking about here, as I have certainly called for Paxton to be considered for an etension.
look at the IP by Red Sox starters last year….who was suppose to be pitching at this point of the year?

After two terrible changeups that bounced in front of the plate, Garcia was all over the 2-0 fastball. Even the hot dog guy knew that pitch was coming.
Why would you want him back for another season? He's been garbage for a month and he isn't even at 100ip yet. What do you think he can ramp up to next year, 120 max? Just get a pitcher who can play a full year.
When they used to expand to 40, you could rest him for a couple of rotations and have bodies to fill in. You'd have to think, though, under these circumstances, he probably should be shut down.

Who the hell is going to make starts in September…although I guess we could have gotten this from Bearclaw.
They could shut down Paxton and give some innings to one of their pitching prospects in the minors, like Kyle Barraclough.
I think it has to be done, the stuff is way too declined.
We saw what he can still be and what he is right now, the delta is large enough.
