Rafaela lays off some tough pitches and then swings at the worst garbage the guy's thrown yet. That's okay, I'll keep watching this garbage

I don't see how? Don't think we can out tank both CLE & DET anymore.
Playing each other, so one has to win. If Det wins tomorrow they finish w/ 78 wins, ahead of us. If Cleveland wins they're at 77 & we're tied but have the tie-breaker because we finished lower last year.

Key is for us not to win.

I'm hoping that in 2024, the only good defensive SS and only good defensive 2B on the Red Sox aren't both Trevor Story.

But if Cleveland wins Detroit is also 77-85, and we only come up 2nd in that 3-way tiebreaker.

Mets drop 10 spots so everyone moves up. Clev 8th, Det 9th, Wash 10th and us 11th, but we'll jump to 9 when Cle/Det overtakes us.

Of course, the draft is weak so 9 v 11 may not matter much.

People act like it's crazy how bad we are with men on base.

Let me offer a different viewpoint:
Opposing pitchers come right at us (pitching to contact) because we suck and they will usually get us out without having to expend much energy.
When we accidentally get on base anyway, and they actually have to waste energy "pitching" to us, they throw garbage knowing that we are the worst-coached group of hitters in MLB and will get extra outs for them.

When viewed through that lens, it all makes much more sense in terms of probability.

I’ve been inclined to cut Cora some slack this summer because of the overall shittyness of the roster he’s had to work with. But if I were his Secret Santa this coming holiday season I’d buy him some asbestos underwear because if the Red Sox don’t get off to a good start in 2024 his seat is going to become very, very hot very, very quickly.

I have also been a Cora guy, but he needs to eat some of this for sure. I'm fine if he's gone next week, next month, or next June.

Do we really need another lost season to find out?

Alex Cora should really be the patron saint of middle-management everywhere.

Dude's got an .830 OPS. I'll take that every day, from anybody.
Well, duh. I totally get it, he's played well for us. But he's got a career OBP of .291 and and a career OPS+ of 99. His OPS for his career is .762. If he hits like this again in a full seaso next year I'll eat my own turds cold

Does eating them cold somehow make them less edible? Asking for a friend.
