If those knees checked out, he would fit this team like a glove. With the Nets at 4-11, Tankathon has the Celtics picking third, and choosing Harry Giles.
He has torn both ACL's and an MCL before the age of 20. Top recruit Ray Smith just torn his for the 3rd time and has announced that he's retiring at age 18!If those knees checked out, he would fit this team like a glove.
I'm with you here, I want no part of Giles. Guys whose knees are held together with duct tape and baling wire are destined for short NBA careers. Especially big men.He has torn both ACL's and an MCL before the age of 20. Top recruit Ray Smith just torn his for the 3rd time and has announced that he's retiring at age 18!
You can have Giles to me he's undraftable in the high lottery with so many other elite options.
I'm not advocating using a high lotto pick on Giles but it's too bad his knees are crap because he would be a great fit for what we need. I still remain hopeful that we can trade the pick for an established all-star caliber vet.I'm with you here, I want no part of Giles. The greater the uncertainty and the closer we get to the pick, the higher the volatility of the value of the pick. I've said this for years on here now......these Brooklyn lottery tickets are virtually untradeable until AFTER that particular years lottery when both sides know the true value of the draft pick. Neither side is going to make a trade without knowing the proper value of that current years pick.......and that only happens until the lottery has established that value.question for those on the board, if the Nets get the most ping pong balls, do you trade the swap rights for Demarcus Cousins?
Assuming Sacramento decides to part ways (or more likely, he forces out).
Most have some kind of protection attached, which does add quite a bit of certainty.Future first round picks are traded all the time. Those future picks have no more uncertainty than the Brooklyn picks.
Are you referring specifically to the unprotected Brooklyn picks? It sounds like you are speaking of regular future picks which you are correct do carry a fair amount of certainty.....as we know the tight range a team will have their pick in most cases. Brooklyn is much different as that pick will be based on the result of lottery balls while carrying huge volatility from being #1, Top-3 or mid-lottery. Nobody is trading these risks as they cannot be properly valued until after the lottery.Future first round picks are traded all the time. Those future picks have no more uncertainty than the Brooklyn picks.
This is my point. It takes two parties to agree on the value of a pick that we don't have any clue of its value. That isn't going to happen. Also, there is a massive difference in this being a #1 pick or a #4/5 pick. Being simply a high lottery pick doesn't differentiate this gap.......over the past few drafts that gap could have been Simmons/Bender, Towns/Hezonja, Wiggins/Gordon, Davis/Waiters, etc. It's not likely but I wouldn't rule it out. If the Kings, for instance, are committed to dealing Cousins for whatever reason, they have to take the best possible package. They would know that the Brooklyn picks are both likely to be high lottery picks - whether that ends up at 1 or 5 doesn't really matter if it's the best offer they receive.
I think the hesitation would come more on Boston's end. Unless they're getting a young all-star, Danny has no incentive to trade the pick since 2017 should be a good draft and he's almost guaranteed to get one of the top guys.
That's the main issue - the very real possibility (but not certainty) of the pick being #1. If Brooklyn was obviously headed towards just missing a playoff berth, then the pick could be dealt pretty easily with some top 3 protection. This is my point. Did Kawhi Leonard, Greek Freak, and Paul George steal your dog?Honestly the list of guys I would trade a top five pick next June for is pretty short and pretty unavailable. It would probably be Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, Karl Anthony Townes, Jimmy Butler, and that's probably it.
I'm as big a Boogie fan as you'll find here, but at this point I wouldn't trade a top five pick next year for him. He's officially a short timer now and the risk of him going Full Dwightmare on you are just too high to be worth it.
Did Minnesota re-hire Kahn or something? This organization is on the right track. But overall I agree that our Brooklyn picks are too valuable to trade unless for a slam dunk player. I'd probably trade 2017 in a package for Cousins but I understand the argument against it.No, there's a negative chance of them being traded. The first list is of guys that there's a negligible chance of them being available. I guess maybe George might move up to negligible chance if Indiana craps out again.
Townes only made the first list because Minnesota's determined to be Sacramento 2: The Revenge and the ongoing clownshow means that there's an actual negligible chance of trade if a player of equivalent value is to be had (which, frankly, would be 2018 and DeAndre Ayton anyway, so I should probably pull him off this year's list).
I prefer that Pouffy play well enough that someone makes an offer for him. The sooner he moves on the faster the losses pile up.Somebody needs to step on Brook Lopez's foot.
With so few wins determining seeding EVERY win for the Nets matters a ton. Doc blew this one when he decided that Blake would sit out due to "rest."Doesn't matter, Nets are proven to be terrible. Won games like this last year too.
Doc blew this one when he let the Nets crawl back into it against his bench. Still a crappy in-game coach.

Bottom line: 1st team All-American from Cinci who wasn't drafted and clawed his way to the NBA while learning how to shoot the 3. Good story. I will root more for him starting in 2019.Sean Kilpatrick is LEGIT*.
* doesn't know a blessed thing about Sean Kilpatrick
I sure hope this is investigated by the league and Mauer is suspended/fined. He absolutely overstepped his boundaries and wasn't even involved in the conversation which had already been rectified. The technicals on Doc were fireably awful by Kenny Mauer---a shame that impacts our draft pick!
