I am not nearly the hockey fan that most of you are around here, but even I know this is an awful trade. There are few players I hate watching "play" hockey more than this guy. He's dirty, he can't score and maybe most importantly, I hate looking at his stupid face. He's Matt Cooke except Cooke actually has some skill. I wouldn't want this guy on the team even if they gave him to us for free. Giving up a 3rd rounder for him? That's nuts! Even if that 3rd rounder has a 2% chance of being a legit NHL player, that's 2% more than you're getting from Rinaldo.

I honestly can't wrap my head around what the hell Neely and Sweeney are doing. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it just looks to me that they are getting worked over by the rest of the league. They needed to make some moves, but the ones they made just don't make any sense to me, other than the Looch deal.

This is going to be a long season.

Carolina got a potential starting G in Eddie Lack for a 3rd and a 7th.  We got arguably the worst player in the NHL for a 3rd.

What's looking to be an early third rounder, no less.

The Bruins won't be drafting at the end of any rounds anytime soon.

What. The. Everliving. Fuck?

Take my son to his therapy appointment, and this is what I come home to?  I think I'm going to go back for myself.

At this point, I'm kind of hoping they trade Bergeron to a team I actually want to root for.

Picking up Rinaldo is bad enough on its own.

But then you think about it and you realize that someone in hockey ops looked at this Bruins team and decided it was missing something. And they looked at some tape and some scouting reports and some numbers and they decided that what this team really needed was Zac Rinaldo. Not a top 4 d-man. Not a scoring winger. Not a PP guy. Nope. Zac Rinaldo is what the team needs. And if THAT wasn't bad enough they decided that they needed Zac Fucking Rinaldo so bad that it was worth giving up a 3rd round pick to get him.

Jesus wept.

This is worse than the McQuaid deal, no? McQuaid is an NHL player. Four years was too many years, $11mil was too much money and he isn't durable, but at least he's an NHL player.

They just traded a 3rd round pick for a healthy scratch player who doesn't belong on the ice.

I long for the days when all we had to complain about was signing 6/7 defensemen to four year contracts. I fear for the next move. If I was the lak I might fire the gm for giving up anything of value for lucic, it is clear they could have had him for a fourth in 2018 if they negotiated a bit.

If I sat down and tried to figure out what the next stupid move would be, I'd have avoided predicting something like this as too laughably unlikely. No one is that dumb.

I haven't  been this pissed at the Bruins since they signed another piece of shit, Chris Nilan for the 1990-91 season.

There is absolutely nothing to like about this deal. How fucking delusional are Sweeney and Neely if they think we want to root for players like this? Or that the presence of a guy like Rinaldo will actually help the team win games?

No way this management team lasts for long. I just hope the team hasn't been totally destroyed by the time the Jacobs family realizes their mistake.

For all the shit everyone (myself included) gave him, especially of late, Chiarelli certainly made the most of his time 'evaluating'. His propensity to re-sign his guys sucked, but he'd earned that rope with his prudence at trade deadlines and not going overboard in the UFA market. His success also seemed to bring him some level of autonomy, which seems non-existent for Sweeney - or at the very least, he seems happy to be complicit in the current vision.

As long as Sinden's whispering in Neely/Jacobs' ears, it seems like it'll be a harkening back to the MOC days. Zac fucking Rinaldo, kill me.

I am not nearly the fan that some of you are here but those blaming Sweeney, doesn't it seem fairly obvious that Neely is the one pulling strings here?
Everyone of these moves reeks of his "toughness and grit" mantra.
I am starting to think that maybe Chia was the only one saving this franchise from sinking...

So can we stop with the bullshit about the Hamilton trade and admit it was just about the fact that he wasn't BROONZ enough? Because this trade all but admits as much.

Man, this is so depressing. I'm not even angry, just defeated. This is horrible asset management, talent evaluation, you name it.

I am completely miserable. Thanks, Don.

You should have no problems getting season tickets next season. And I think the Sinden connection is being overplayed. He's an 82 year old that's been out of hockey for 15 years. The blame for this needs to start and end in one person. Cam Neely. He got his power, put his guy in the GM seat. If this team sucks it's entirely his fault.

I'm hoping the Flyers front office setup a camera and made a reaction video when the Bruins came up on caller id.

Wait you want Rinaldo and we get a 3rd round pick??

If Cam is actually listening to him, that says more about him then Harry. I know as Bruins fans we're supposed to love Cam and hate Sinden & Jacobs but this is Cam's show now, and if it sucks it we have to blame him.

Yeah, this is where I'm at. Besides, back in Sinden's day if he had an RFA making big contract demands he would have told him to go yodeling and then held firm and waited him out through the holdout. He would not have traded him away for practically nothing.

This is on Cam and Donnie. Not Sinden. Fan favs as players they may have been, but as executives they seem to be utter disasters. I can't possibly understand how they looked at this team and compared it to the rest of the league and concluded that they needed to go gooning. They were slower than a fat girl running up a staircase last year, so naturally they traded away their most mobile defenseman and re-signed the injured stiff guy, all while reaching in the draft for....gritty players.

It's crazy.

I would be livid with this deal if they made it at the deadline when prices are sky high, let alone in June.

Thanks for reminding me that Sweeney will still be here when the Bruins are positioned as deadline sellers for the first time in forever.

Could this be an attempt to break Claude of his roll out all 4 lines modus operandus?
No.

For the millionth time, there is nothing wrong with Claude's system. They've had quit a few years of being at the top of the league in scoring and 5 on 5 play. His ability to get the most out of the depth in the roster is fantastic.

If the front office is sabotaging the roster in spite of Claude they should have fired him. If that's what's really going on, we're more fucked than a pussy in a whore house.

Charlie fuckface Jacobs.........Harry fuckface Sinden.I spent all of my love and care on the oldtime hockey . Those two pricks squeezed every penny out the "if we only had a sniper "Bruins... I Am not the least bit upset, Cam and Sweeney were good players.More names you surely can supply...that made much joy for me...but in the end money ruled...from the late fifty onward my guts were torn out as I watched "almost "teams kept the fans coming back for more...Fuck the bros Jacob.

One aside , Samuelson was never done as needed.
The so called goon is easily booted out whenever...The skilled sneaky bastards will thrive better than ever...

this new . goon should put the boot into the Jacobs.

i am sure this post sucks ,I Am old and up late...FUCk Sinden prick for the Ages...

No sir, your post was perfect. Much like this situation it was just about impossible to comprehend. Helplessly standing by watching them burn the house down is so painful. We're all at a loss for words to explain what in the fuck is going on. I think you said it best.

BIG, BAD BRUINS.

Personally, I blame the marketing department for doing their job too well and convincing Cam Neely that the fans didn't want a great team, they wanted a big, bad Bruins team that beats up the opposition.

The biggest investments this team has made in the Neely/Sweeney Error are McQuaid and Rinaldo.

FIGHT!

Unreal America
I live down in Fairfield County, CT and my son, who is 8, is a huge hockey fan, plays on a travel team, all that good stuff. We attend a lot of Bridgeport Sound Tigers games so he's met a lot of their players and therefore is a fan of the Islanders. I've allowed that, but of course I've steered him towards having the Bruins be his favorite team.

After the past few days I'm thinking that was a mistake.

Because I think the Islanders are better run.

The. Islanders.

Ugh.

I don't think there is any question the nyi are better run. They got almost the same package for Reinhart that the bs got for Hamilton. That makes my head spin.

Well, that late 2nd rounder is totally the difference between a kid teetering between late bloomer and bust and a kid that is poised to become a perennial top-pair defenseman.

I probably like Zac Rinaldo more than 99% of Flyers fans. But he is what he is, and I don't see Julien playing him because of the occasional stupid crap he pulls. Feels like Sweeney could have found a grit guy who's a bit more responsible and functional as a player. Especially if he was willing to move a 3rd for it.

Love this deal from the Flyers end, along with the other stuff Hexy is doing this summer.

Fluto's not impressed with the trade:

The Bruins traded a 2017 third-rounder to Philadelphia for Zac Rinaldo, the fourth-liner with 8 career goals and 14 career games on suspension. Rinaldo skates very well despite the Department of Player Safety-issued ankle bracelet he’s required to wear.
