A Lost Time

Edit- Just saw the sandwich video. Oh god that looks terrible. Like a bowl of spaghetti, 3 or 4 teaspoons of sugar, a few oz. of ranch on whitebread with the crust cut off. One of the hosts looked like he was going to puke.

One of the critiques sounded straight out of SNL: Well it certainly tastes like you would expect a combination of spaghetti with ranch sauce to taste.

I'm going to love the Isaiah/Rozier PG tandem.
Yup, two guys who can create their own shots and aren't Evan Turner. Rozier has Monta-like quickness and athleticism and the shooting will be fine. Makes it easy to find a Bradley trade without losing much, but if AB stays it does allow for some nice endgame offense/defense versatility.

To be fair, especially in the second half Young defended very well and Hunter was garbage on that end.
They both look really inconsistent on both ends and in need of serious work.

Yes, good points on the defense that was played. This was the first game I saw where Young consistently fought hard through picks to keep up with his man. Part of his problem is he has a slight build and can't hammer his way past a pick, ala Smart. Young is a work in progress on defense, but it is progress.

As far as Hunter, I thought he had the effort on defense, but was lost on where to be and when to switch. But then, this may not unexpected given his inexperience on the court, new team mates, and new systems. Hunter's strength is on offense though, correct.

Or take it to the rim offensively.  If he's going to become the offensive stud we hope, he should probably add this to his game instead of pulling up or avoiding the paint and contact as he seems to prefer.  Watching some video of Paul Pierce taking it to the hole including making shots while getting fouled might help Young a lot here

Young can watch all the video of Paul Pierce he wants, it won't matter. He can't go to his right, which makes him very easy to defend. In the halfcourt, he's a one-trick-pony as a catch-and-shoot player. Unfortunately, he's not actually even that good of a shooter. While I'm glad he's worked on his body, it's not a very good sign that his skill level doesn't seem to have improved over the summer. That said, he's still a teenager and has time. Even Gerald Green was eventually able to figure some things out, so there's hope.

Celtics and Spurs on NBA TV now.

Starting five for the Celtics' quarterfinal game vs. the Spurs: Terry Rozier, James Young, Royce O'Neale, Jonathan Holmes, Jordan Mickey.

It may have not been the draft we wanted but Rozier, Hunter & Mickey have all showed at times that they have something.

Also, how many 5 cent commercials did Brett Favre shoot this year? He's everywhere with these shitty products.

Mickey looks like a very useful player and Hunter might be a very good player in a few years.

Fun Summer League. Played hard, showed some legit NBA ability. Maybe this turns out to be somewhat like the Jefferson/West/Allen draft where you find role players late who can either fill in when better pieces are brought in or can be decent enough trade pieces.

I was at the game.  It was very entertaining.

Hunter was stroking - he has a really quick release that looks similar to but not quite as quick as Curry's or his college highlights.  He also made some great passes.  The kid can certainly shoot & pass, but not sure if he can do much else.  He looks skinny and not athletic.
Mickey looks small, but he played above the rim & blocked / challenged a bunch of shots which I expected.   Surprisingly, he showed some real nice offensive moves.
Young has great size for a wing and a nice stroke but doesn't seem all that assertive.
Rozier had a pretty awful game I thought.  Every knock against him as a PG showed - he drives out of control and doesn't make great decisions with the ball in the halfcourt.  But, his athleticism is outstanding, his defense was great and that one shot was ridiculous.  My suspicion is he would function best in a Jason Terry / J Crawford / Microwave type of role.  I really hope they don't keep trying to make him a PG.

There seems to be a lot more buzz around the C's summer league this year, particularly around Hunter and Mickey.  Rozier, too, although I'm a little afraid that he is Marcus Banks 2.0.  I am intrigued to see what Stevens can do with these guys in training camp.

Young will work out with Durant in the next few weeks. Hopefully he'll learn how to be more assertive. I still like his tool set, but he needs a better motor. Maybe KD can show him that?

Yes, and if Young shows any improvement, they should just sign KD when he is a free agent to be his mentor.

Hunter has intriqued us all so i checked for a thorough scouting report and got one from draft express. As impressive and confident as he's looked from long range, it was interesting to read that a reason he fell to late first round was his relatively weak 3 point % (30%) this last season. He was praised for his passing, court smarts, and excellent defensive numbers for steals and blocked shots, although at least some of these defensive numbers came from playing zone. He also needs to add strength. Bottom line: Good prospect but needs to show better shot (3 point and 2 point) accuracy, bulk up, and show he can adjust to man to man D

Hunter's accuracy is very good. His pct was 30% due to shot selection and volume of shots he needed to take for his team. He really understands how to play this game which bodes well for him making it in this league. It's all going to depend on whether he can defend his position on the other end.

I'd say his biggest limiting factor on offense is he can't create his own shot and his physical tools mean he likely never will. He's not going to beat guys off the dribble, or create separation with speed or strength. He needs to be a Korver type.

Agree with HRB.  He didn't fall because of his 3 PT % (though it was curiously low, for some of the reasons mentioned above).  Shooting has always been thought of as a strength of his game.  The reason he was taken in the 1st round at all is because he is thought of as a very good shooting prospect.

There's a fair amount of research showing your college FT% is about as predictive of your NBA 3PT% as you college 3PT% is. Hunter seems to be a pretty good candidate for explaining why that would be.

That's not to say he's a sure-fire amazing 3 point shooter, but his elite free throw percentage is promising.
