Big series this weekend between #1 North Dakota and #5 Omaha.  Omaha won Friday night in overtime, UND returned the favor last night.  Really surprised by the season Omaha is having, was supposed to be a down year since they lost many experienced players and have a lot of Freshmen on their roster.

I really don't get the NCAA hockey ranking logic. ND, on the road, beat Omaha and had an overtime loss. Meanwhile, BU didn't lose their one game, and Minnesota State wins two against a bad Ferris State team. Somehow, Minnesota State vaults both to #1. And while ND dropped to #1, Omaha moves from #5 to #4.

Both games went to overtime, so Omaha had a win and an overtime loss to the number 1 ranked team. The only team Omaha leapfrogged was Harvard, who lost to Union this week, whereas the teams who were ranked just behind Omaha, Bowling Green and Minnesota-Duluth, managed no better than a split in their weekend games so they didn't move past Omaha.

BU-Harvard going to 2OT.  Harvard goalie has made 60 saves on the night.
I see you too are watching the coverage and reporting what they tell you.  Here's to both our games resolving the way we want so we can hurl insults at each other over next week's performance.

Harvard with a horrible turnover in their defensive zone.  Their goalie deserved better. 4-3 BU 2:00 or so into 2OT.

Yeah the inability for Harvard to clear it out of the d-zone for the last two shifts killed them.  That and the kid whiffing on a breakaway in the first OT.

Never in a million years did I think I'd get a Super Bowl win AND a Beanpot win vs. BC this week.

So happy right now. Even if things don't go our way next Monday night, it feels amazing to finally have that BC monkey off our back.

I still think that Harvard no-goal call they reviewed in the 3rd was a goal.  But if you're going to get outshot 24-6 in OT, chances are ....

Harvard had a couple of their injured players back this game and they contributed, but it may have hurt them in OT with them being a little out of shape..  Two really bad clear attempts that turned into chances in that last minute.

I just didn't think what Minn. State did really justified vaulting ND or BU. Two wins versus a bad team isn't quite on the level as a win and an overtime loss against a very good team. I was about to use RPI to show the strength of the teams the top three have played over their past 5, but Minn. State is ranked #1 there, so perhaps they should have been #1 all along.

The top three do seem pretty evenly matched, though. Past 5 games:

MS: 4-1 - wins:  #39, #19, #39, #39; loss: #28
ND: 4-1 - wins:  #59, #47, #47, #4; loss: #4
BU: 4-1 - wins:  #13, #16, #16, #46; loss: #12

ND is off until the 13th; MS plays #49 Alaska Anchorage twice; BU beat #10 Harvard, and faces #13 on the road.

Should be an interesting fight for the #1 seeds in the NCAA tournament, with Minnesota State playing Michigan Tech in the penultimate week of the regular season, and ND closing with Miami on the road. State has #7 and #6 in their conference tournament; ND has #4, #5, #8, and #9; BU has fewer top 10 teams, but more depth in the top 20 with #12, #13, #11, #16, and #18.

Beanpot is on for tomorrow?

Guessing yes since Tue and Wed nights are occupied
If Northeastern wins the Beanpot and no one is there to see it, does it count?

I'll be surprised if it's moved just because the Garden is so busy the next few weeks.

Beanpot postponed to 2/23. Chaotic end of season now for NU - 2 in Orono Friday 2/20, Saturday 2/21, then Beanpot Monday, then 2 vs. bu to end the season the following weekend.

I'm going to be pulling my hair out in the meantime. Ugh.

Michigan defeats State in the Hockey City outdoor game at Soldiers Field. The Wolverines face Minnesota this weekend in a very big series in the Big Ten. A sweep would be very nice.

Just rewatched the 3rd period... in my eyes that's a goal. Every day of the week. They need to start embedding RFID chips or something in the pucks. I really dislike that Harvard scored there and got nothing for it.

I knopw it's been like that for a few years, but what's the reasoning behind having the Women's HE Semis and Final in Hyannis? It's farther from the schools, farther from the fans/pop centers, and not THAT warm in early March.

the BU fan with the "UMass Roxbury" sign might be my favorite person ever

edit: BU fans chanting "safety school" however is somewhat ironic

BU playing like the Leafs did at the end of the Bruins series in '13: collapsing in front of the puck, trying to bleed the clock, and blowing their lead because of it.

Great game to be at.

I really appreciate the effort from Northeastern. Not just from the players, but the fan/student section was packed and was much louder than the BU folks, at least from where I was sitting. Even at 3-1, you kind of had the feeling that Northeastern was going to make it interesting. The Roy goal was fantastic. The tying goal was what I felt Northeastern needed to do more of. O'Connor is a big, but slow butterfly goalie who relies on his size to cut off the net. In a scramble like that, he can lose track of the puck and you can catch him out of position. I thought there was an opportunity to do that near the end of regulation when Northeastern had the puck on the side of the goal with a clear path to goal (I forget who it was). Instead of driving to net, the player tried to pass it across, which went to no one.

Not much needs to be said about BU. I think that they showed both vulnerability and resilience. If Eichel could win a face off, perhaps this game would've been less interesting and more tilted the Terriers way. It was great to see the guy that should be replacing Torey Krug net two.

NU Huskies played very angry in the Beanpot rematch at Agganis, outshooting BU 3-1 for much of the first 2 periods. Both O'Connor and the Terrier D were awful early, O'Connor was pulled. NU almost lost 3-0 and 6-2 leads, but hung on to win 6-5. Rodrigues had a hat trick in a losing cause; BU had a goal disallowed for a crease violation. If they managed to tie it, the place would have shook.

Very entertaining game, going to be REAL CHIPPY @ UMass-Roxbury later tonight. BU still needs a point for the regular season HE title for themselves.

I love that NU won obviously, and am hoping for another tomorrow, but it is SO Northeastern to win the Beanpot rematch like that.

Notre Dame and UMass are playing the second longest game in NCAA history right now. The fifth overtime just started.

Umass wins the longest game in NCAA history. At least the winning goal-scorer was from West Roxbury.

Walsh played at CM.

Been a tough couple of years for UMass fans. Showing some signs the second half that maybe they can start to improve. Nice to see a win like that.

Mich swept by PSU.

One more year on his deal, but I really hope Red steps down. It's time. Michigan has way too much talent to struggle vs Penn State for the last two years.

Assuming current PairWise ranking trends hold, and none of these three schools emerge as the upset winner of the Hockey East tournament, this year's NCAA Division I field will be the first without at least one northern New England team -- Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont -- since 1986, when the bracket had just 8 teams.

Only the Catamounts have a shot at making it without an auto-bid, but they'll need to sweep BC this weekend to even have that chance.

Interesting Hockey East weekend along Comm ave on Saturday. BC has a doubleheader, Women NCAA Quarters at 1 followed by the Men HE Quarters Game 2 at 6. BU has a doubleheader of sorts too, Women NCAA Quarters at 3 on the road at Wiscy, and the Men play the 2nd game of HE Quarters at Agganis (at 4).

I would not want to be a fan of the Clarkson women on Saturday. Eagles looking to rebound from a 4-1 destruction by their archrival for the HE Hyannis Final. They rebounded from their only other loss, beanpot to Harvard, to beat maine 6-0.

Let's hope this team, possibly the most dominant women's team in recent history, can win a single championship this year.  O-fer BP and HE doesn't look good on a 32-2-2 resume.

For such a young program (2nd year in B1G), Penn State is developing a fan base: Penn State Finishes with NCAA-Best Attendance.

To be sure, it's not in absolute terms, but as a percentage of home arena capacity.  The Pegula Ice Center has an official capacity of 6,014 and averaged 6,030 per game - a total of 108,534 for their 18 home games, ranking 7th best in the NCAA.

Penn State went 13-2-3 in 18 total homes games, ranking 3rd best in the NCAA.

With time, the program can only get better.

BU is outshooting Merrimack 20-1 in the 2nd period with about a minute left.  Eichel has 3 assists this period.  3-0 BU with 1 minute left in the 2nd.

Tonight Harvard and Yale will play each other the SIXTH time this season. This time for a semi-final slot in the ECAC.

Harvard lost the first 3 in the regular season, but won 3-2 Friday night. Yale won again yesterday 2-0.
