The funny thing about these Michigan-BC games is that the road team has never won.
I mean we did just have the best recruiting class in the nation per pretty much everyone.

Have to believe Demko seizes the goaltending job at some point.

You think they're worse than Alabama-Huntsville?  Northeastern hung up a 9-1 score on them tonight, and the "we want 10" goal bounced over the goalie and just wide of the post in the closing minute.  Having said that, NU's D was exposed multiple times and this is probably going to be a long year for both of the teams.

Yup. I think they are bad. They won 2 games last year and 14 total the last 3 years and just beat the number 1 team in the country.

As a Husky fan who has seen almost every game the past year or two, I think it's difficult to draw conclusions about their defense from this game (and likely weekend). Especially since they were playing without Mike Gunn (reasons unknown), who should be an important part of their blue line crew.

Honestly, that was one of the most complete efforts I've seen from the team in a long time. Even when they played UAH last year, you got the sense that they were coasting on the talent difference. (won 3-1, 3-0). Obviously this could be a complete mirage because of the competition, but the effort and quality of play the team put forth was so much different than most of the games they've played the past couple years. Big step next weekend with Holy Cross.

BU 3-1 over UMass Amherst.

My seats are under the box where Jack Parker was sitting.  Boy is he glad to be retired.

BU looked out of sync for a lot of the 3rd, but got all 3 of theirs in a fantastic 8 minute stretch in the 2nd.  Lots of sloppy plays, penalties, and lots to improve on for Quinn.

BC is gutting Wisconsin right now. 4-0 in the first period. If Wisconsin is supposed to be one of the two best teams in the B1G, the B1G is in trouble. Terrible showing thus far.

Michigan doing alright against UNH, but they're on their second PK of the first period. Can't win games on the road by giving these opportunities away. Also, the lighting at the Whittemore Center looks terrible on TV. It looks like there's stage lighting, except, it being UNH, there is no stage. Seriously, it looks like it's lit by gas lamps. (It's probably the cameras, don't take it personally)

You don't mess with the Eagles on Jerry York night!

Are either the BC or KenmoreKK games on tv?

My friend (who writes for CHN) posted a picture of the Wisconsin bus. I'm not convinced they got off that bus. This is an awesome display of power by BC.

Michigan has been called for 5 penalties now, I believe. Can't do this on the road. Still up 1-0 though.

What? No Penn State in their inaugural year at DI?  In the new $80+ Million arena constructed predominantly by the donations from Tim (owner of the Buffalo Sabers) and Kim Pegula?  State of the art.

Only time will intervene between Penn State and hockey power.

Michigan holds on and ties UNH 1-1. The first period looked good, but UNH pretty much controlled the second and third, aided greatly by the million penalties on Michigan. The teams meet tomorrow at 7.

Quinnipiac goes up to Lowell tonight and pretty much controlled them all night for a 3-1 win.

Only that, the lack of a proven coach, recruiting, and all of the other good teams in that conference, sure.

Northeastern knocks off Holy Cross in Worcester 3-1, moving to 3-0.

So far, it's clear NU has a lot of offensive talent, the freshmen class especially. Szmatula, Stevens, Hedges, Aston-Reese and Benning are as advertised.

BUT holy hell the penalties. 12, 11, and 8 (SEVEN IN THE THIRD PERIOD WITH A TWO GOAL LEAD).

I honestly think Northeastern can surprise some people this season (limited surprise, not top 6 obviously). But if they can't stay disciplined it's gonna get ugly fast. They're back at it tomorrow at Matthews against Holy Cross again.

No love for PC here yet? So far they've posted 5-1 and 3-0 wins over then-#11 Minnesota State. Granted, they were at home, but that is still a dominating opening showing. Providence has moved up to 10th in the polls, and Gillies is off to a hot start. I think he could be the best goalie in the country this year.

This is also the last weekend until the Ivy schools get going.

I think the freshman class is gradually becoming more comfortable as the season progresses. Just an awesome recruiting class this year . Reloaded the highly skilled and speedy forwards and shutdown defensemen that they lacked last year.

Did they include the kid rape approved showers? Or did the football program not want to share the building plans?

I went to the 5-1 game and they looked as good as the score shows.  I missed Minnesota State's only goal.  Gillies faced 26 shots but due to good defense it didn't feel like he was tested most of the game.  The offense did a really good job of moving the puck into dangerous areas and even though they were only 1-8 on the power play their movement and passing for the first game of the year was outstanding.  The only drawback in the game was the amount of penalties for both teams, 16 in total.  Also the Schneider Arena renovations were really overdue and nice.

Michigan beats UNH tonight in OT. I expect us to be terrible away from home, but apparently, we're the only team that can beat a Hockey East team in the B1G-HE challenge. God, this conference sucks. Wisconsin, your #2 team in the country, gave up a combined 18 goals to BC and BU. Since I'm impartial between those two schools, I will say they both suck ( :) ) but Wisconsin especially sucks.

Michigan defeats BU 2-1 at Yost. Wolverines absolutely dominated from start to finish, but couldn't find the goals. It took a great one timer from Tyler Motte to tie it, then Alex Guptill won it on a penalty shot, beating O'Connor five hole. Shots in this game were 44-19. Yeah, it was dominant.

What do they say guys? Sucks to B who? :)

Michigan takes on UMass-Lowell tomorrow evening.

OK time to pay attention to this BC-Minnesota game.

Hell of a game for Northeastern, roaring back from down 2-0 to win 6-3. 5-0-0 now with one more against St. Lawrence tomorrow before opening up conference play next weekend.

In Hockey East, Northeastern, Notre Dame, and Providence all still have unblemished records, although PC needed overtime to beat Miami tonight.

I've been watching referee assignments with some interest, because I'm curious about what HE will do at ND and how the midwest leagues will shake out, and I've been seeing a lot of names I don't recognize.  Especially interesting, at Penn State tonight, the refs were both guys who are on the Hockey East officials list.

Well, to be fair (and a complete homer), PC was playing the #3 team in the country, (and was last weeks #1). They also have beaten another ranked team in Minnesota state twice.

Probably three of the best wins in Hockey East so far this year. Now, if they can just get some of those wins on the road....

As someone who shouldn't be rooting for PC but is, they're going to be really good this year. They were my darkhose pre-season pick to win the national title. I love Gillies and I think this is going to be Jankowski's break out season. Despite being a sophomore, Jankowski just turned 19 last month. He's really, really young and has some impressive tools.

Speaking of national champions, Brown beat defending champ Yale 4-1 last night in both of their first games since a disappointing ECAC finals loss and a national title win respectively. If Brown can find some goaltending this year, they're going to be an incredibly tough opponent at a minimum, and possibly a very good team.

Brown won 5-3 (including an empty netter) over Dartmouth today to open their season with a 2-0 record. This was a huge opening weekend for the Bears. The games don't really matter, but to get two early wins is big for another young Bears team. They only won two games in their first eight last year, so this is a nice change of pace. Both senior Marco De Filippo (who lost the gig last year to then-senior and now graduated Anthony Borelli) and freshman Tyler Steel earned starts and victories in net over the weekend.

Most notably perhaps is that the offense put up 3 and 4 real goals respectively this weekend (4 and 5 counting the empty netters). The Bears averaged just 2.50 goals per game last year, good for 40th of 59 in college hockey. And to make things better, Matt Lorito only scored one of those nine goals. Last year Lorito pretty much was the offense, scoring 22 of Brown's 90 goals (24.4%), as he very quietly was 5th in the nation in goals as a sophomore.

In other Providence-related action, PC is up 4-3 over Miami after two.

Edit: 4-4 as Barber scored again for Miami. He should be in Hobey contention.

No idea what Quinn said to his BU players at the first intermission, but it worked.  BU got outplayed, outshot(18-6) and outscored (3-0) in the first period last night against Providence, and came out of the locker room, tied it at 3 in the 2nd period, and got the winner in the 3rd.  4-3 BU over Providence.  The team was visibly better, and played with a lot more good emotion.  The rematch is tonight, hopefully BU can continue their good play.

Copp scored again and Justin Selman got his first goal of the season as Michigan completed the sweep of Michigan Tech defeating the Huskies 2-1. Nagelvoort had 22 saves in net. The kids are alright.

Meh weekend for Northeastern. I thought that, overall, they played well against BC> Unfortunately 1) it was BC and 2) they gave up way too many odd-man rushes (even on the PP). BC pulled out a big four points while NU comes away empty-handed... as usual. All in all, a lot to be "encouraged" about. But that's what we said last year when they were 2-0 after beating Merrimack and BC. We'll see how the next few weeks go...

I DO think Witt's going to be pretty damn good in net this year for NU (Saturday's brain fart aside - Gaudreau threw one off his skate that ricocheted inside the post that he hadn't sealed off).
