#DFG: Canceling the Noise

Is there any level of suspension that you would advise Tom to accept?

Someone with a Twitter account should tweet to NDG that he failed his freshman chemistry exam by using guage rather than absolute pressures in his application of the ideal gas law.

This was the last b.s. gasp from NFL HQ, timed to greet the Pats when they get off the plane.

The fact that a message board of Pats fans are correcting NDT on science is the height of hilarity.

Hate to break it to you, but that was the case a long time ago.  There was nothing that BB or Brady could have said at the PC that was going to change that.

Knowing the demographic on this board, I can only imagine how many billable hours have been lost this past week (I work for a plaintiffs' firm that does almost everything on contingency, but man, it's been tough to cut down on the size of the pile on my desk lately).

I have never wanted the Pats to curbstomp an opponent so badly, and I don't even hate the Seahawks.

I'm thinking that winning is going to be very difficult; good opponent, West Coast travel, huge distractions, pissed-off officials, and Jimmy G. in his first start.

Wow I had to google that guy, went in the same draft with McGuinest. To call him "former Patriots QB" is actually a stretch as he never played a down for them.  Did he even make the 53?

Yup, if you thought there was still a chance the NFL had something, it has to be pretty clear now that they do not. An interview yields nothing. Video yields nothing. But they leak it anyway because he maybe possibly did something wrong in an "aliens could have flown in from outer space and depressurized the balls in that timeframe" kind of way.

Any chance that the new video in question turns out to be video of interview with ball boy?

The only thing better would be if the ballboy answered every question from investigators with "We're on to Seattle."

NDT did come out and supports GMOs claiming we've been doing it for thousands of years. My guess is he's a jets fan and was paid off by Monsanto. Dirty like a rat

Can someone Tweet this to all the scientists out there? Thanks.

http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2014/11/19/cold-you-should-check-your-tire-pressure/eYdwB6XCZsaOGDmd31LBFI/story.html

Tire pressure (per square inch) drops between one and two pounds for every 10-degree decrease in temperature, and that can make a big difference to a driver who hasn’t filled up since summer.
On a day like today, when the low temperature was 24 degrees, your tires could be 5 to 10 pounds per square inch lower than they were on a 74-degree morning.
So even if you filled up to a comfortable PSI of 32 in August, your tires could have dropped as much as 25 percent by today — which in most cars is enough to trigger a warning.

It would be nice if the Patriots organization could leak some information. There is no way they weren't aware of this video.

I never would have guessed that the biggest takeaway from the Pats beating the Colts is that I can no longer trust Bill Nye the Science Guy and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Jay Walker was the team's backup QB in...1994!
I was wondering who the hell this Jay Walker was. Clearly backing up Bledsoe while Brady was a sophmore in HS gives him great insight.

Interestingly, the Pats lost to the Browns in the playoffs that year. Guess who the coach was?? Bill Belichick!!!! We should protest that playoff loss, clearly there was something nefarious going on! It all comes full circle.

Can someone add the differences between gauge pressure and whatever else is going on to the OP?  And maybe a link to the YouTube vid with the experiment?  That's just as helpful as a recap of what started the whole mess, IMO.
There's a link in the OP to my post here:
http://sonsofsamhorn.net/topic/87694-ballghazi-or-the-bay-of-pigskins-my-cousin-bbs-fu-tour-science-dropped-inflatethis/page-39#entry5858942

I directly addressed the % loss (which NGT screwed up) 5 days ago:
SumnerH said:
Note that the nominal pressure of a ball is really shorthand for "X PSI above the normal atmospheric pressure". Normal atmospheric pressure is about 14.7 PSI; a ball that was measured at "13 PSI" was really at 27.7 PSI of total pressure**. If it lost 2 PSI of pressure, then it went from 27.7 PSI to 25.7 PSI of total pressure: about a 7% loss.

Bill said everything that needed to be said. There is nothing left except the league's sad attempts to continually paint this as a nefarious miscarriage of justice.

Seriously.

This is soooo frustrating. What are the chances that the only two famous/pop-culture scientists I've ever heard of come out on the WRONG side of science in this debate? NDT had the opportunity to turn this whole thing around with one tweet and instead he gave it a big boost in the wrong direction. Unbelievable.

Edit: seems I'm not alone with malware warning

If the investigators had already done close to 40 interviews by Thursday, there's no way they didn't interview the ballboy, right?  So they're leaking this to put pressure on the ballboy, either because they think he's lying or because they want to scare him into a false confession.

OMG! A BALL Attendant was seen with the BALLS. WTF! He was supposed to be attending to the BALLS.

That explains the 11 of 12.  They should have hired a balls attendant if they wanted him to securely transport more than just the one.  He did his job!

Why would the NFL want a false confession?
