#DFG: Canceling the Noise

Is there any level of suspension that you would advise Tom to accept?

I give 0 fucks about his public rep. People decided how they feel about Brady (and the Patriots) long ago. Trying to change their minds now, as has been said many times in this thread, is futile.

But if it is actually 8 games, or anywhere near that, there needs to be a full fledged attack on the NFL from Brady's camp. And I expect there will be, scorched-earth style.

It's all in the details.  Something like, "source also said that banning Brady's children from the NFL for life is also on the table."  It's the little unexpected details that set the hook.

Well, changing the public opinion isn't. Clearing his name certainly is.

99% of those who think he's guilty today will think he's guilty no matter what comes up in the appeal.

So what? He could still want to attempt to clear his name.

Single source.  I cannot state it with high confidence, because it's second hand, but I'm just putting it out there because I learned of it 30 minutes ago.

Is it possible they are hearing/expecting so much push back from the 2-4 games - appeal, cut it in half or more - that Goodell et al are aiming high for 8 and expecting it to get cut down to "their" number of 4? If so, and even if not so, I don't imagine this is going to be a quiet process.

Left out et al

Goodell is a blind idioit (likely) if he thinks that by increasing the number of games, the reduction will fall more in line with what they want. He has to know by now that he does not have a leg to stand.

We seem to have a terminology problem. Adrian Peterson fought back and had his suspension overturned. Did that "clear his name?"

Well there's that whole evidence of the photos of him beating his children and admitting it, so I'm not sure what your point is.

NFLPA on standby ready to go to war with the NFL.

No we're not.

First of all, Peterson, and even Rice, were not alleging they didn't do what they was suspended for. Brady, I assume, would be.

And secondly, all I am saying is that Brady might want to do it for HIMSELF, not PR. It's an attack on him and his integrity and he may not want to let that stand.

You mean a strike. That won't happened but the NFLPA isn't going to sit by and watch this happen. Expect TB12 to hire some big time lawyers along with Kessler in his corner.

The difference is that Peterson actually beat his kid with a switch, whereas there's a fairly good chance that nothing actually happened here.

This whole thing makes less and less sense as things go on.  If Brady gets half a season with no warning after the precedent (not even a FINE) then there will be a lot of folks thinking 'wheeewww, glad it wasn't me...'

And I'd be done with the NFL.  All ready don't miss college FB.

Taking you at face value, but I really would expect all Pats action to be taken off Vegas boards by this point.

All I see is expected win today going down.

Latest from the NFL (officially) is that there is no current timetable to announce anything on Brady. Translation: many lawyers are weighing in.

Have we had a single "source" throughout this entire saga be anywhere near correct?

Wells:  Roger, I think these are very serious charges and nothing less than an 8 game suspension will do.  Don't worry, I've got your back.  My schedule is clear for any litigation you may face over this.

Which doesn't matter to 99% of those in the public who have already convicted Brady in their own minds. Brady will fight it, and even if he wins, it's against the NFL. All that will happen is the suspension will be overturned (best case). That will not "clear his name".

If it's 8 games, I'd honestly hope he would consider retiring (he won't) - the NFL can't get anything right and yet do no wrong to keep us all intrigued.

*Multiple lawyers are trying to physically restrain Rodger from pressing the large red button on his desk that gives Brady a life time ban. I assume his office just has like 5 buttons on it for punishment and this is the biggest and only button he has yet to push. So he reallllly wants to do it.

A player could put out a contract hit and have his own coach killed, and he wouldn't get an 8-game suspension.

Hilarious. Goddell general awareness of his own office vs Tom's general awareness of his balls.  That wasn't a denial from goodell that was a soft pedal "maybe" in terms of did he know what was going on.

once it was announced that the nfl was really bothering to look into this and that there'd be an investigation and whatnot (and the patriots still had to, you know, go out there and win a super bowl, which they did) -- i'm just wondering: did anyone really think it'd potentially come to this, where we'd have a sham report followed by growing talk of a half season suspension? i'm so dizzy over this...

Maybe they're trying to find lawyers capable of using simple enough words to get through to Goodell and the rest of the NFL higher-ups.

Actually, one game per 1/10th PSI does seem reasonable. This is serious shit.

So you're saying we need the pregame ball pressure readings and clarity on which gauge was used in order to define the punishment.

Should be easy to get.  Guys, we have that, right?

Again, you seem to have a problem with definitions here. You were the one that introduced the separate terms, and now are insisting they mean exactly the same thing. In practical terms, if he gets the whole house of cards torn to shreds the opinions of the chuckleheads aren't going to matter, historically speaking, except as a reflection of what a giant crybaby culture early 21st century America has become. If he lays down for this he permanently destroys his place in football history as a "cheater" when, in all likelihood, nothing happened here.

that is seriously fucked up. but strangely may actually get people on Brady's side and only further hurt Goodell and the NFL
