@adbrandt: Appeals will be heard by - you guessed it - Roger Goodell (or his designee).

Note: it looks like this thread is nearing its end now that the suspension & the fines have been announced.

Just a heads up beforehand.

More likely "WHERE IS ROGER?"  "WHERE IS ROGER?"

There is zero chance he takes his life in his hands by going to the game.

I doubt Kraft does anything. As had been said, he's had plenty of chances to stand up to Goodell but failed to act. He's half the reason the Pats are in this mess.
Kraft stood up pretty strongly the week before the Super Bowl.

While his legal options are limited, he can certainly start a PR blitz and potentially get Goodell fired at some point in the future.

I don't think he'll have to spend anything for that. Just hold a presser tonight outlining how ridiculous this is and Bristol will come to him.

Kraft has no options. Well, he could sell the team. But that's it.

This can't be emphasized enough:

@walsha
Former NFLPA President Troy Vincent allegedly met secretly with Goodell to provide the NFL access to confidential union information.

We've been over this. The Wells investigators did not interview him four times. Other NFL folks did before they started. But even still, once those text messages were discovered, there is no fucking way the Patriots' justification for not allowing access stands up. They didn't want to inconvenience McNally further? They wanted written questions instead? Yeah, OK.
Remember that Wells has those texts for three weeks before the fourth interview, which was apparently enough time to find other texts messages on the phones, which they asked him about and for which he provided responses. Why wasn't Wells able to find these texts on the same timeline? How long should Wells be given to find additional texts on the same phone? How many bites at the apple does he get? This wasn't new evidence that came to light because of another interview or something else they just acquired, this was a question about evidence Wells had the fourth time McNally was interviewed.

And why reject the written response as a last alternative? If they didn't want to tip their hand before questioning him, fine, but once they accepted that wasn't happening, wouldn't for the sake of completeness they at least try to get a response through whatever means they could?

This is where I'm at. 4 games or 2 games...sure, whatev. I want Kraft to be a man and publicly blast Goodell and the NFL for their complete lack of integrity on this and any number of other matters.

Look, there's not a lot the team can do.  Brady can appeal, and will win, but whatever.  Just sucks, I care about the NFL a lot less than I did an hour ago.  Not really a lot we can do as fans though.

I plan on basically being 2000 Yankee fan level obnoxious with opposing fans going forward in most forums though.

That's not correct.  He can go on an all-out PR blitz in support of both the team and Brady; there's no way the league can prevent that.   He could also start a movement among the owners to depose Goodell as commissioner.

I guess he could also ask Goodell for reconsideration of the team's punishment, but I would agree that's more of a theoretical option than a real one in this case.

Why did you watch after Spygate?

Point taken, but three key differences:

1) A rule was actually violated in Camerapositiongate.  A nonsense rule, sure, but we have proof a rule was violated (the Patriots even admitted it).
2) This punishment was several times worse than the 2007 punishment. Nobody was suspended for Camerapositiongate.
3) Goodell was new. I was hoping it was a one-time overreach for a green commissioner.  He has proven me wrong several times over the last eight years.

Basically, fool me once vs. fool me twice.  I was almost out in September when Goodell (and Kraft, mind you!) shat all over themselves over Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, et al.  This is it for me.

Stern would have handled this with a couple sarcastic comments to reporters. Goodell not only fucked it up from the start, but refuses to stop doing so months after the whole thing should have been put to bed.

When this will hit the owners is the next time Goodell fucks up something that's actually consequential. He's repeatedly proven himself to be unqualified for his position, so the next time he botches something, people are coming straight for the owners. By keeping around someone so grossly incompetent, they've forfeited any future cover he might provide them the next time he face plants in a high-profile situation. He's an inevitable PR disaster for every owner.

New penalty rules*

Offensive penalties will result in loss of possession.

Defensive penalties will result in automatic score for the offensive team.

*Applies to penalties against NE Patriots only.

I legitimately just feel nothing but disinterest towards the NFL now. What's the point? They're hypocritical. They're stupid. It's not going to change.

Here
I would say "what about the precedent this sets" for future issues around the league, but we all know there's no such thing as precedent when it comes to Roger Goodell.

Out of all the bad ways this could spin for Goodell, the patina of a union-busting move is among the worst in terms of public opinion.  And thus, that is how it shall break.

Any chance there's a silver lining in this?  Meaning, it serves as a motivation for the players to perform at a level that brings home another Super Bowl win?
I'll be severely disappointed if the Colts game ends in any fashion that doesn't involve an 84-0 score and TFB whipping it out and taking a piss at midfield.

They could've given Brady a lifetime ban and he's not getting booed here ever.

Edit: Unless you're talking in San Francisco after the 50 point win to seal #5.

No need for dreaming, Goodell has already been bailed out by Kraft a couple of times, after this I'm fairly certain that the owners who want him out will be emboldened by the lack of defenders in Goodell's corner. At this point is there anyone left outside Bisciotti?

If Kraft doesn't go on a PR crusade now, I'll just assume he's seething silently, while plotting with other jilted owners and get RG canned in the most vindictive, painful way possible.

Apologies if this has been posted, I haven't seen it yet (from the NFL's statement)

Patriots owner Robert Kraft advised Commissioner Roger Goodell last week that Patriots employees John Jastremski and James McNally have been indefinitely suspended without pay by the club, effective on May 6th. Neither of these individuals may be reinstated without the prior approval of NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent. If they are reinstated by the Patriots, Jastremski is prohibited from having any role in the preparation, supervision, or handling of footballs to be used in NFL games during the 2015 season. McNally is barred from serving as a locker room attendant for the game officials, or having any involvement with the preparation, supervision, or handling of footballs or any other equipment on game day.

I do think we pretty much have to take the action of post-ref manipulation as fact, at this point.  No that it matters a whit.

I'm with you guys that this is total bullshit.  However, Kraft knows the politics of the league and should've kept his mouth shut about what would (or would not) be found in the investigation.  If Goodell felt Kraft was questioning his leadership or credibility, then the obvious answer for Goodell is to do something drastic to put Kraft in his place.  Goodell and Kraft had a dick contest and Roger is winning, right now.  Again, total bullshit.
