I was hoping for a draw and felt like that could have been deserved. Arsenal always seems to have some bit of good fortune in his fixture, at least since I've been watching it.

I thought Arsenal were better (we could easily have had 3-4 goals) but a draw wouldn't have been unjust and Palace were a bit unlucky not to score in the last 10 minutes, when they came close several times.

I think that's all right. Though I would have liked to see what happened if Arsenal played the second half with 10 men.

City looking really good so far.  Chelsea sorely miss the Lady Physio.  Begovic keeping them in the match.

2-0 City, Kompany with a nice glancing header from a corner kick. He seems quite happy.

If the result remains unchanged I can't wait to see what Jose drums up to deflect our attention from his team's poor start. He might have a go at the officials who hold up the sub numbers.

Aguero is even more handsome this year, but Costa got a bit uglier...i wonder if this is a useful portent for the season. Maybe not but they cut to a shot of Aguero on the bench near the end of the match and he was looking serenely handsome, i think he might have been picking his nose as well. Hot.

That's literally unbelievable. Baghdad Bob would be embarrassed to put his name to that.

Wow.

No word on LFC-AFCB team sheets yet.  Personally, I'm expecting something like this 4-3-3 from LFC: Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Skrtel, Moreno, Henderson, Can, Milner, Firmino, Benteke, Coutinho.  Moreno on for his attacking options, Can as a single holding midfielder, and Coutinho and Firmino given license to cut in once they're 30 yards from goal.

If Lallana is in the side, I'm very interested in seeing whether he can stay out of the MF's way.

Same XI as for Stoke:

Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Skrtel, Gomez, Henderson, Milner, Coutinho, Lallana, Ibe, Benteke

Substitutes: Bogdan, Toure, Moreno, Can, Firmino, Origi, Ings

New Brodge, same as old Brodge. Sticking with Lallana, ignoring the effectiveness of Can.

He's not going to succeed.

Exact same team sheet, even the subs.  WTF.

Bournemouth: Boruc, Francis, Elphick, Cook, Daniels, Ritchie, O'Kane, Surman, Gradel, King, Wilson.  Bench is Federici, Smith, Distin, Mings, Gosling, Pugh, Tomlin.

Some factoids while awaiting this dreck:

1. Bournemouth have only played twice at Anfield, in 1968 and 1927.  Both matches were 4-1 defeats.
2. Brendan Rodgers faces his January 2016 replacement, Eddie Howe, for the second time.
3. The first time Rodgers and Howe faced off, Howe's Burnley defeated Rodgers's Swansea, 2-1.  The scorer for Swansea: Fabio Borini.

This is utterly baffling. He reminds me of Bobby Valentine in the extreme, doing stupid shit to prove he's the smartest guy in the room.

Also, I'm pretty sure that one of Parma's unpaid debts was about 300K euros to Chelsea for signing Borini even though he never played for them.  Savvy operators, that club.

I disagree only in that Rodgers thinks this is his best 11 and it's only been a single competitive game.  I have no problem with him allowing them to attempt to gel. If Lallana continues to look lost and he's running him out there in three weeks, well then...

So quarter hour in what's it look like to those who are watching? I'm stuck getting commentary on Flash Score but it feels like Bournemouth has carried the play so far.

Yeah, Betenke can't play on this team.

Well, he did score in the way that even his detractors say he will score, which was on a crossed ball into the box not with the flow of play that Liverpool have favored under Rogers. I don't think that goal showed anything about Benteke's fit with 'pool.

Bournemouth have been just as good as Liverpool in getting and keeping possession.  The difference is Liverpool have a 30M+ player who finished--and also that the referee's assistant didn't call offside on Coutinho when he was trying to play the ball on the goal.

Tough break for Bournemouth, Coutinho was offsides and tried to play the ball.

Yeah, I don't see how that isn't affecting the play.  Boruc was clearly distracted.

Of course, the mind immediately goes to every time Liverpool got screwed so I can rationalize the call.

SSS warning, Bournemouth seem to be not terrible, better than, say, West Brom or Sunderland.

As soon as I type this, they give up one goal and almost another.

That's one of those that you don't often see called but I wish they would rule that offside more.  It's impossible for the keeper when the offside player is active like that .. he has to respect the potential touch.  We all go nuts over a bunch of calls that are within 12 inches where the play remains in front of the keeper whereas on that type of play the keeper just stands no chance really.

Yeah, that never used to be called, but there was supposed to be an emphasis on it this season, so I'm a bit surprised it wasn't flagged.

It was just meant to be a smart-ass comment. I'm just happy he's opened his account.

I'd also like to think that Rodgers has realized that sometimes he needs more Plan B options, and hitting a long ball occasionally to Benteke can make the defenders think twice about being overly aggressive and open up a little space and time for the midfield/other attackers.

How often does it happen that one company sponsors multiple teams? Mansion Group sponsors (at least) Bournemouth and Palace this year.

Happens reasonably often. For a while Celtic and Rangers had the same sponsor so that no company would be boycotted by fans of the other team.

Sorry, your lot can be a bit defensive, I misread. I like Benteke, but I do have questions about how well he'll fit. Either way, no doubt good to get him on the board, can't hurt his confidence.

I don't know if they have changed the rules in England, but at one point you couldn't have 2 teams displaying the same sponsor in a game. I remember Liverpool playing Havant and Waterlooville in the FA Cup when both teams were sponsored by Carlsberg. H&W had to change their shirts to an alternate logo.

Yes.

Interesting again but per the commentary he would seem to have had a good end to the first half.  Here are the appropriate bits from Flash Score...

36'

Adam Lallana (Liverpool) rises high on the edge of the box to meet a cross and plants a powerful header goalwards, but Artur Boruc (Bournemouth) is alert and makes a decent save to deny him.

42'

Adam Lallana (Liverpool) collects a pass inside the box, and he unleashes a shot which is brilliantly blocked by a defender. Liverpool get a corner.

42'

Adam Lallana (Liverpool) sends a wonderful cross from the corner kick. However, the defence works perfectly to clear the ball and to avert the threat.
