Adam Lallana (Liverpool) rises high on the edge of the box to meet a cross and plants a powerful header goalwards, but Artur Boruc (Bournemouth) is alert and makes a decent save to deny him.

Even the guy who wrote the Chelsea game report would have been embarrassed to call that header "powerful".

Milner is wearing the captain's armband during his first home game with the club. That's got to be a rare thing.
Micah Richards was made captain before his first game for Villa.

You could argue that they're outplaying Liverpool.  It's been pretty even but they're really acquitting themselves well.  They're going to be fun to watch all season I think, they're trying to play.

They are going to be tough to outwork early in the season. The question will be if they can maintain the effort and intensity at this level for the whole campaign.

Liverpool pretty strongly on the back foot at present? That's certainly how it reads.
Yes, but they're up a goal. Looks like they plan to sit back and try and break on the counter.

Yes, if they suffer a few injuries or just slow a bit will this creativity continue? Hard to imagine they've got the depth and they'll probably have to get more pragmatic as the points tallies start to reveal a truth about relegation battle.

This ref is yellow crazy. He won't give fouls in the box because it would be a penalty, but he has given 3 or 4 yellows for nothing little fouls.

They're mostly cards for "cynical" fouls breaking up play and preventing attacks.  They're all nothing fouls but I don't know that a ton have been bewildering.

Oh I know, but they are mostly not really cynical to me. Like the last one on Bournemouth, he'd caught him, at that point it's just a foul to me.
The only really poor referee decision to me so far was not giving the penalty on Skrtle's repeated fouling in the box on that one corner. He completely dragged the main target out of position and to the ground.

I don't know what Skrtel has to do to get all that activity in the box called but at this point it seems the refs have decided they're OK with it.

They didn't seem intimidated by Anfield, so good for them.  They could have (should have?) come away with points today.  SSS again, but I don't smell a relegation candidate.

I think Rogers should starts Can against Arsenal, I think Liverpool needs that added protection in front of the back four.  I'm sure Lallana will keep his place though.

So, each team has now played 1 home match and 1 away match, but there have only been 5 home wins, compared to 10 away wins (with 5 draws).

Chelsea are 5 points worse off so far compared to the same results last season, whereas Man City are 2 points better off.
