Great segment; I wish Felger was more sure of where the Zednik hit happened.http://boston.cbsloc...-on-charas-hit/
Go back and listen to it. It's worth it. I love that the Canadian radio hosts got tore a new one and then just hung up.
this is incredibly enjoyable, i wish they were taking phone calls from folks in Montreal
Felger is the best with this stuff, i'd like to make him Boston sports ambassador and don't care that he's a cheesehead and doesn't even really like most of our teams
Frankly, I was stunned they came back for a second segment. :rolling:Only bummer was Felger could have dragged it out longer but couldn't control himself.
Yeah, but no. Their opening was a grandstanding that Chara intentionally rammed Pacioretty's head into the stanchion. "Barry" even attempted to reference McLaren's elbow on Zednik as evidence that the reaction was justified. They even attempted to point to precedent, which had absolutely nothing to do with the Chara hit. to justify the reaction of calling the police. (A junior player deliberately chopped the legs out from under a ref as he threw him down on his head, causing substantial injury.). I don't think you can complain about being put in an indefensible position, when you're the one who originally put yourself in that position. You should be forced to at least attempt to verbalize your defense of an idiotic position, so at the very least you might realize how stupid it is when you hear your voice speak it. This is the radio station that encouraged their fans to call the police. I think they deserved every bit of it.I felt a little bit bad for those Canadian guys. It did not sound like a sports talk radio program at all. It sounded like a news program with an anchor/host who had his best guy in the sports department join him on air. Those guys wanted to talk about how awful it is that Pacioretty got guillotined and how the NHL should do more to protect hockey players and so on. Once Felger attacked and basically backed them into the corner of having to either a.) admit that Canadians fans were acting like deranged soccer moms b.) state emphatically that they agree with the Montreal fans who flooded emergency lines calling for Chara to be arrested or c.) completely change the subject they were cooked. I don't think they were even expecting a fight, let alone an all out beatdown.
There's no way those guys were going to say anything bad about Habs fans. I could just tell from the way the main host segued back from commercial that it wasn't going to be that kind of show on their end.
They called 98.5 not the other way around. Felger was just gitty that someone from Montreal called, they didn't care who.If they wanted to do a simulcast, they'd have been better off doing it with Mitch Melnick. That would have been better radio, since Melnick would be more able to hold his own.

http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/articles/2011/03/18/happy_30th_for_celtics_tandem/Comcast SportsNet New England and 98.5 The Sports Hub have had discussions about simulcasting the “Felger and Massarotti’’ afternoon drive program, but an industry source said an announcement is not imminent . . .
Facts don't matter on Boston radio
By PAT HICKEY, The Gazette March 24, 2011 4:03
As I was driving down I-93 to Beantown on Wednesday, I caught my buddy Mike Felger talking about the coming showdown between the Canadiens and the Bruins.
Felger and Hickey drop the gloves at 4pm on TSH.
gloves weren't dropped at all...As Felger would say.....Shocker!Felger and Hickey drop the gloves at 4pm on TSH.
I guess D&H were wrong when they say Big Game James wouldn't be effected...maybe Berger is next...or maybe Mut brought in his own producer? Was there any word why B-Real left the show? I heard he was done and Jimmy Stewart is in, but didn't hear why.

Mazz opining on games that he later admits to not watching? Is there anything more annoying than listening to Felger talk about baseball?
That is an impressive rant, TJ. I admire your pure fury.
"You're Absolutely Right, Mike."
Chad Finn:
Ah, Mazz is a great guy, one of the nicest I've met in this business. He just plays a contrarian on radio, TV, the internet, and in the newspaper. It's pretty lucrative.
I speak from experience when I say you can take it off entirely by listening to something else.Glad you guys appreciated it, helps take the edge off.
This makes me hate him even more. I think I am done with local sports radio too. Between F/M being a disappointment after the promising start, there really aren't many choices now. Tried catching some of Ordway and Holley today and it was just annoying. Glenn trying way too hard. I turned it off after hearing Glenn spazzing out about "Cha-lee" (as in Charlie Wilson). Just sounded so fake. iPod, Sirius/XM, or silence are all better options.Wow, that rant was epic. I am glad I told myself to not listen to any sports radio today.
Also I saw this in the Chad Finn chat last Friday, for some proof that Mazz is just strirring up shit.
Is there anything more annoying than listening to Felger talk about baseball?
This is a very entertaining post. But it's a bit like complaining that fire is hot and then wondering how it could possibly thrive in a forest of dry dead pines.I'm completely done with talk radio ever again after today. These guys are either morons or portray themselves as such to the point it's hard to think otherwise. Utter garbage today, these two dip shits are incapable of ever passing along a single fact without the words kinda, around, something, I think it was about and so on. In five minutes today Tony was railing on the ratings over the weekend and then cited the ratings for the 2008 opener and said "I think it was a Monday" You think it was a Monday? Why can't he look? Why can't he check before the show? How hard is it to sit there and say "Ya know, we're going to compare ratings of recent season openers on the show today and MLB opened in a different manner than previous seasons. If we're going to compare the numbers maybe I should actually be aware of what days of the week we're comparing" Nope too hard for Tony, he knows Texeira's OPS from the weekend but he can't be bothered to know what days of the week the sox have opened on in recent seasons.
...
Complete garbage. It is completely beyond my understanding why and how these shows exist and how these guys find themselves in such positions. They make stuff up, backup nothing they say with anything, can't remember anything, Mass doesn't even watch the games. It's pathetic and it angers me that they have the ability to influence the opinions of so many people and choose to do so in a way that harms the well being of the general public and makes us all dumber or makes other people dumber who we then have to try and explain why these morons are, well, morons. I just can't take it anymore.
Doing some market research there, JM?Ok so you just said that Ordway and Holley are too bland, but that Felger and Mazz are too big of ratings hounds..... so what kind of sports talk show would YOU prefer?
I guess I just don't understand what some of you are really looking for here? How can you dislike everything about all four of them even though all four of them are completely different on-air personalities? That's a broad spectrum of distaste
(can't believe we sprung from the same loins!)
I dispute the idea that he's really a nice guy who's just doing schtick. When Schilling started posting certain things here exclusively Tony was one of the main whiners and threatened to not cover Schill's charity if he didn't talk to the media more. Take that people with ALS!Chad Finn:

That's basically exactly how I feel and how I ended up listening in yesterday. I guess I should really start downloading podcasts onto my phone and listening to them while I drive if I don't want to listen to music. But yea, I pop into 98.5 like twice a month just to check and make sure they didn't all of a sudden decide to stop sucking.Of course Maalox is right. It's like baying at the moon or resenting the sun for rising to complain about the inane nature of sports radio. But when you're in your car driving home there isn't a whole lot to listen to and you're always drawn back to the station in the irrational hope you'll hear something that doesn't make you want to drive off the road. It's the definition of insanity. Doing the same stupid thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
So call me insane.
I was going to say that Felger and Mazz are now as bad as Mustard and Johnson, but that would be hyperbole... but, when they discuss baseball, the are surely as bad as Butch Stearns*. I hereby bestow upon them a "BS" award......They did however manage to completely and I mean completely refuse to address anything the one intelligent caller had to say about Crawford. He cited Crawford's defense, how it would matter in Fenway because despite the short wall he told the morons there was such a thing as lateral movement in the outfield, and he also said he would make up for the lack of home runs and RBIs with steals and triples and that he would hit more homers than they had thought. The caller opened by saying that Mass and Felger were in there 50s. That was the only part of the call they addressed before Tony started off talking about Tex again.
