I love the show, but does anyone else's skin curl when Mazz does his stupid voices?
Completely not funny, but Felger LOVES it.

Yep. And it was only because they were the only game in town. A town that just happens to be the most sports-crazed town in the country.Karma is a bitch. I recall the "#1 rated sports radio station...IN THE COUNTRY" promos they ran at the top and bottom of every sports flash. You reap what you sow, Jason Wolfe.
Every time Mazz launches into the stupid voice (it's really only one, though he thinks he's doing several) it's time to change the channel for me, but Felger and others at the station clearly love it.I love the show, but does anyone else's skin curl when Mazz does his stupid voices?

Same here. Especially when you hear some of the callers and his and Beetle's impression is dead on. "Yeah this one time in high school, I play quahtah back and got hit by the line backah wicked hahd. So I can see why Brady's shouldah is hurtin him."I absolutely hated it when he first started but have somehow over time come to find it humorous, depending on what he is talking about with it.
I did get a laugh from the Ray Lewis story about waiting for Santa on Christmas, but then it was beaten to death. I too hated the Boston voice and I think they do it a bit much but it's actually grown on me.Same here. Especially when you hear some of the callers and his and Beetle's impression is dead on. "Yeah this one time in high school, I play quahtah back and got hit by the line backah wicked hahd. So I can see why Brady's shouldah is hurtin him."
So two times so far?The Pac Man sound effects behind Adam Jones kill me every time.
Felger thinks the entire league is on PEDs too.Felger imitating that Adrian Peterson is on some sort of PED because he came back from his ACL so early.
If some sort of medical help can assist athletes coming back from devastating injury, can help them heal faster and cleaner, I'd be all for it, too. These guys are beat up enough, damaged enough, from the game--I would be fine with ACL patients using assistance...I always felt that that's what Rodney chose to do; that after his second knee injury in a little over a year (2006 against TN) he decided to use HgH to help him heal. If it works, let doctors administer it... /tangentFelger thinks the entire league is on PEDs too.
ACL tears used to be a death sentence in the league, then it went to 1 year of rehab and another year until the player was fully healthy, and now players are coming back from all sorts of season/career ending injuries in the same season. Maybe I'm jaded but it's going to be near impossible to convince me that Wes Welker, Adrian Peterson, et al... didn't have PED assistance in order to do that.
I don't have a problem with it mind you, I want those players on the field, but don't try and tell me that it's all natural.
AP had better access to better "assistance".But he was also saying that these guys come back BETTER than before, and totally ignored the fact that RGIII has already had a surgery,
So, Mazz only voted for Bonds and Clemens.
Oh, and Edgar Martinez.
?
Mantle had <100 fewer XBH than Biggio with nearly 3000 fewer PA's plus he had ~600 more walksNot "That Punch and Judy hitter Craig Biggio"...then the two laughed. Followed up by Felger saying, "Great...Craig Biggio. We'll call you when we need a single to right field". And Mazz just giggles.
Biggio had more XBH than Mantle. I'm okay with him not getting in but Tony humiliates himself in some of these conversations. He should know better.
Edit - One more comment. After learning that Todd Walker got a vote, Felger said, "Well Biggio almost got in, same cat".
Wow.An indignant Mazz just told his listeners that Woody Williams, Jeff Conine, Jose Mesa and Todd Walker got HOF votes.
Um ... they were on the ballot. They didn't get any votes.
Aaron Sele did get one.
Are they looking at the Years on the Ballot column?I'm looking at the ballot results at B-R.
As far as I can see, all these guys that F&M are railing on for getting a vote, didn't get any votes.

I want guesses as to who this could be. Who could give him a vote? Under what thought process? An indignant Mazz just told his listeners that Woody Williams, Jeff Conine, Jose Mesa and Todd Walker got HOF votes.
Um ... they were on the ballot. They didn't get any votes.
Aaron Sele did get one.
I don't get why this is so awful. If you could only vote for one guy, and you voted for him, that's one thing. But if you used 4-5 "real" votes on legitimate people, and as a friendly gesture, threw a guy a ceremonial vote, what is the harm? Do you really think the person who voted for Sele actually thinks he derserves it?I want guesses as to who this could be. Who could give him a vote? Under what thought process?
My goodness.
Thanks for the response, I was curious if reporters who know him know this is an act so they chuckle more than anything. His job is to talk for 20 hours a week and mistakes are going to be made and stupid shit is going to get said and after watching him live on CSNNE I actually like Mazz on the show and think he is a good foil for Felger. You can tell he is really enjoying this and not taking it as seriously as some people want.I dont think he's considered even close to an embarrasment by anyone outside of message boarders who take their talk radio waaaaaaaay too seriously. Sure, I just goofed on him, but I like him and I've always respected him.
And Mazz came out of the break and admitted his mistake. He was looking at the "years on ballot" column and mistook it for votes.
I think you missed my point. I don't think somebody like Mazz should call Biggio a "Punch and Judy Hitter" and mock his candidacy with giggles. I'm sure Mazz has no idea that Biggio is 5th all time in double or that Biggio has 144 more XBH than Jeter with only 600 more ABs. And Tony thinks the sun sets in Jeter's ass.Mantle had <100 fewer XBH than Biggio with nearly 3000 fewer PA's plus he had ~600 more walks
Biggio OPSed over .900 twice in his 20 seasons, topping out at .916, finished top 5 in MVP twice (5th and 4th).
IMO, Biggio is the classic "Hall of very good" player whose longevity ended up being his greatest asset
edit: Not the forum for THIS discussion but, IMO, not voting Biggio is 1000x more defensible than not voting for the Steroid guys
I love this, because when Jeter comes up on the ballot in 6 or 7 years, they will be washing his balls, when Jeter was/is the KING of the (bloop) single to rightNot "That Punch and Judy hitter Craig Biggio"...then the two laughed. Followed up by Felger saying, "Great...Craig Biggio. We'll call you when we need a single to right field". And Mazz just giggles.
Todd Walker did as well, from Mike Dyer.An indignant Mazz just told his listeners that Woody Williams, Jeff Conine, Jose Mesa and Todd Walker got HOF votes.
Um ... they were on the ballot. They didn't get any votes.
Aaron Sele did get one.
I'm guessing that's a typo and it should be L. Walker, or the voting table is wrong.
I believe the BBWAA list I linked to is only voters who wished their ballots to be public.I'm guessing that's a typo and it should be L. Walker, or the voting table is wrong.
No sign of the Sele vote, either.
That link only shows 102 ballots. There were over 400 ballots cast. The entire list of players and votes is currently on the front page at bbwaa.com.I'm guessing that's a typo and it should be L. Walker, or the voting table is wrong.
No sign of the Sele vote, either.
I don't have a problem with this at all. A bunch of years back Jim DeShaies was on the ballot and ran a campaign to get at least one vote for the Hall of Fame. I think he got two or three, it's really not that big of a deal.I want guesses as to who this could be. Who could give him a vote? Under what thought process?
My goodness.
LOL Boo hooWhy are these honors voted on by writers and not some panel of people that participated in the respective sport in some capacity (player, coach, management)? What expertise do they have in the sports they are covering? Isn't their supposed expertise - journalism and writing? I would argue a significant amount of members of this board know more about the game of baseball than Tony Massarotti, but he's an arbiter?
Is this a serious response? I think he asked some good questions. I can see why it made sense to have sports writers doing this before the inventions of cable TV and the internet, but besides protecting what has always been theirs and arrogance, I can't see a single reason why it still makes sense to have reporters do this.LOL Boo hoo
I would write more in response to your whining but that was all it deserves.

There is no perfect system, let's make it like the All Star Game where fans, players and managers get to vote their most favoritest players and buddies in.Is this a serious response? Because we said so.I couldn't care less the results of the voting, but am curious as to why it is still deemed that journalists are the experts in sports greatness.
Stupid responses to this aside, I agree. It's like letting the journalists at marketwatch.com pick your stocks for you instead of the analyst at Goldman Sachs. Sportswriters look for a story and write about that, but that doesn't make them an expert analyst. The Hall of Fame is in the hands of Nick Cafardo - enough said. Why are these honors voted on by writers and not some panel of people that participated in the respective sport in some capacity (player, coach, management)? What expertise do they have in the sports they are covering? Isn't their supposed expertise - journalism and writing? Indeed.Holy Fuck this is obnoxious.
That's my gripe with Mazz. Would it kill him to do an iota of research about anything? There have been hundreds, if not thousands of articles written over the past month about this year's Hall of Fame class, and most of them include ... statistics! Would it really be that difficult to cherry pick some stats from a few articles? My final Mazz comment with regards to Biggio. He was just on Comcast and was asked about leaving CB off the ballot despite the 3000 hits. His rationale of "I just never thought he was elite" is absolutely acceptable as an argument. But then he ends it with, "I mean, come on, what did Craig Biggio ever lead the league in other than hit by pitch?!" This is what I find annoying. Biggio led the league in Stolen Bases once, Runs twice, and Doubles three times. Yeah, he wasn't Ted Williams but shouldn't "a baseball guy" have a better understanding of the kind of player Biggio was? He referred to him as a "slap hitter" today toward the end of the radio broadcast.
