Just tell GH that with global warming, Boston will be a coastal paradise and MIA will be under water.Should the Celtics just cancel the meeting then?
That, or change the weather.

There are very good reasons for him to stay in Utah, but their path to a championship during Hayward's prime is almost non-existent, whereas Boston's is "have a top-10 player whose GM isn't retarded come on the market."My gut says he stays in Utah - he can make more money, he doesn't have to uproot his family and he seems to have a few good friends on that team and is pretty beloved by the fans. If it were me I would have to be pretty blown away by the Celtics meeting today to move to Boston.
And if he signs in Miami...well, that's just dumb.
Not to be a turd in the punch bowl (again), but isn't the Celtics' championship pedigree a little bit of a misnomer in today's NBA? Yes, they have won 17 titles as a franchise but only one in the last 30 years. The Heat won a few between the Shaq/Wade pairing and then the LeBron/Wade/Bosh era. So too have the Spurs if they get involved.
If I'm a modern NBA player, championships from bygone eras are great, but I'm more interested in the teams that are still winning with some regularity. I'm not so sure 16 titles that were won before I was born are going to do much to fire me up.
I think Boston's best pitch is the head coach and the fact that they were a top seed last year and a player or two away from being the ones to knock out Cleveland and get a crack at the title as soon as Year One. The Heat don't have that, to my knowledge, but will that matter over the contract offer?
I'm gonna take a wild guess that dudes who make $30M a year find pretty great schools for their kids in just about any city.Massachusetts sucks? Really?
We have the best public school system in the country. We have the best universities in the country. We have the best health system in the country. We have the second best tech industry in the country. We have the second best financial industry in the country. We have the ocean. We have Cape Cod. We have suburbs that are actually interesting.
If you care about "lifestyle" and "Spoelstra," sure. If you care about traffic, sure, Massachusetts sucks (tho no worse than LA which doesn't have even a second rate subway system).
You raise your kids here and they are less likely to become meth-addicted dropouts. It's a goddamn fact.
Side note......Perkins blowing out his knee in Game 6 vs the Lakers almost certainly cost us another championship. I still have nightmares of Gasol and Bynum playing volleyball above a lead-footed Big Baby on the offensive glass in Game 7. They had something like 25 offensive rebounds in a game that we only lost by 4 points. And while it's part of the game, KG's injury in 2009 probably cost us 2 more. For sure 2009. That team was going to win 70.
I think that was the most frustrated I have been watching any sporting event.Side note......Perkins blowing out his knee in Game 6 vs the Lakers almost certainly cost us another championship. And if it wasn't for the ridiculous foul disparity we still win.Side note......Perkins blowing out his knee in Game 6 vs the Lakers almost certainly cost us another championship. Me as well, though more for the 37-17 free throw advantage that LA enjoyed. Most corrupt officiating since the 2002 Lakers/Kings Game 6.I think that was the most frustrated I have been watching any sporting event.
Even NH has top flight private high schools, two of which better than anything MA has to offer (says someone biased . Its a fair point that $30m and deity status in the community would likely open up decent education opens for the children wherever he ends up.Actually, Massachusetts has the best private schools in the country. Certainly the best private high schools if you go by any ranking.
After the prices paid for Cousins, Butler and George over the last 6 months perhaps its not safe to keep assuming everyone else is stoopid and maybe re-calibrate.There are very good reasons for him to stay in Utah, but their path to a championship during Hayward's prime is almost non-existent, whereas Boston's is "have a top-10 player whose GM isn't retarded come on the market."
I'll agree with your second sentence...the point is with unlimited funds you should be able to be pretty happy anywhere, and if your thing is international celebrities in the first row, jet-skiing in March, and power boating at 2 AM, Miami is your town...if it's seasons and famous hospitals and famous schools, maybe not. As for your first, I myself went to a private high school in NH, presumably south of yours, but I'm not sure I agree.Even NH has top flight private high schools, two of which better than anything MA has to offer (says someone biased . LA had more free throws in the fourth (20) than Boston did the entire game, and I think only two were on intentional fouls late. They let both teams shove each other around for the first three quarters and then went super one-sided in the fourth. They also let Gasol catch his own airball and shoot again for a score, and it happened with under two minutes left so they could have reviewed it. Bigtime bullshit.Amen
that 4th qtr hatchet-job should take its place with Larry Barnett and Ben Dreith in the pantheon Boston teams getting reamed by officials
What fanbase in any sport has ever tempered their expectations on anything? No but maybe the fanbase should have tempered their expectations over the past year on what has always been a longshot. We are now at the point of trying to justify our chances by convincing ourselves that Boston is a more desirable location in the winters than Florida.
I know I know....But Brad!
Besides the extra playoff run an extra time to convince George to stay, at the deadline the players going back could be expiring, or voidable, deals like Amir, Jonas and/or Zeller. As a side note, when did the difference between trading for PG at the deadline and PG now move from their top picks plus players into that pile of nothing? Is it just the extra playoff run, as that doesn't seem good enough.
Yeah, I don't get this "temper expectations" stuff. The Celtics are a viable option for a 27 year-old all-star. We're on the short list as he's only considering 3 teams. That's not a long shot in any way shape or form. What fanbase in any sport has ever tempered their expectations on anything?
It's OK to be a fan. It can be fun.
Also, calling it a longshot seems a bit much. This is the most realistic max free agent target the Celtics have ever had. I'd say even more realistic than Horford last year.
What's the exact downside to this free agent chase for you? Do you think they should've gone after an even longer shot or something?
I don't think the players could have been Amir or Zeller, unless the deal was widened substantially as it would have hobbled the bench for said playoff run. Pretty sure the rumors had the PG/SG/SF names in it regardless as they wanted players.Besides the extra playoff run an extra time to convince George to stay, at the deadline the players going back could be expiring, or voidable, deals like Amir, Jonas and/or Zeller.
Now the salaries going back would've had to come from at least two of Bradley/Crowder/Smart/Jaylen.
This post nails it. The "hot takez" crowd on your local sports shows and on the major sites/networks will go at Ainge but he parlayed two aging stars and several good NBA rotation players who were never going to help the Celtics win into a team that looks to be competitive for years to come. And he did so without having to tank long-term. He also took a chance and hired a man who is now widely considered a top coach in today's NBA. I know not everyone is enamored of what Danny has done but imho, he is right there with the Spurs and Warriors in terms of how to build a team.Yeah, I don't get this "temper expectations" stuff. And if we don't get him, we'll all be disappointed but life will go on and we'll be able to watch guys like Jaylen and Jayson develop along with Zizic and maybe Yabusele.
The Patriots have basically ruined Boston sports fandom because of this "championship or bust" mentality. Ainge has absolutely nailed it the past 4 years but you're still going to see a bunch of criticism if Hayward does not choose us.
I think you're referring to the Celtics draft night offer for George.I don't think the players could have been Amir or Zeller, unless the deal was widened substantially as it would have hobbled the bench for said playoff run. Pretty sure the rumors had the PG/SG/SF names in it regardless as they wanted players.
Yep, that was the proposal I was incorrectly referring to! Maybe there was different discussion at the time?I think you're referring to the Celtics draft night offer for George.
..snip...
I hadn't considered this, and I think I follow the math, but a consequence would have been losing max cap space if I'm not mistaken? I guess they could have pushed for a sign and trade for the FA using Bradley/Crowder/Smart/Jaylen salaries, but then its just the order of operations.Besides the extra playoff run an extra time to convince George to stay, at the deadline the players going back could be expiring, or voidable, deals like Amir, Jonas and/or Zeller.

They might not want to escape in January or February, but the other ten months of the year they do.As insufferable as my opinion can be at times even I feel this is a bit too much. My only point was that tens of thousands of New Englanders flock to Florida for the winter each year with many more traveling their to vacation during this time. Residents do look to escape in the winter.....that much is not a secret. I wouldn't agree that the state sucks though.
Yeah, when acquiring top 20 NBA players you don't give a shit about the deal's impact on the end of the bench. Or even the backup center. You pocket the top 20 player and gladly send out the pick regardless.I don't think the players could have been Amir or Zeller, unless the deal was widened substantially as it would have hobbled the bench for said playoff run. Pretty sure the rumors had the PG/SG/SF names in it regardless as they wanted players.
I'm sure they do and I think it's why they are so pissed about hearing from PG when they did.I'm sure that Bird wanted lots of players in the deal, which is why it didn't happen then. But in retrospect I bet a lot of people in Pacers front office wish they had Fultz today.
Sorry. Gary Washburn.Sorry to be the 'I'm on mobile guy' but who is that coming from?
Safety schoolNBA source on #Celtics-Hayward meeting: "Felt like the communication was excellent and the case was made for Gordon being a great fit.”
I was surprised by how few reports there have been today about the visit and who was involved. Don't know what, if anything, to make of the limited news.
"We did everything we could, but ultimately Gordon went in another direction. I like the team we have and we'll continue to develop and get better for the upcoming season."
--Probably Danny Ainge on Tuesday or Wednesday.
I think Boston's best approach was the one that they reportedly did. Focus on basketball, and specifically what Hayward added to this Celtic team looks like.I think Boston's best pitch is the head coach and the fact that they were a top seed last year and a player or two away from being the ones to knock out Cleveland and get a crack at the title as soon as Year One. The Heat don't have that, to my knowledge, but will that matter over the contract offer?
I'm really sure that a dude about to make over 20 million a year gives a crap about public schools for his kid or saving $200 on a plane ticket visiting his kid in college.Massachusetts sucks? Really?
