9/9 Rarity 59, my best rarity score yet

67580

I'd have done even better if I was more confident that Buddy Bell won his GG with the Rangers. In fact, he won all 5 with them and 0 with the Indians (h/t to BB Ref for that). I am surprised Pudge wasn't higher. I was trying to avoid him if I could, since he was the only Ranger I was confident won a GG.

I'm nowhere near as knowledgable as y'all, so I savor any 9/9. Got another one today! It helped that I had two Texas teams to work with. Rarity score of 199.

This was one of the easier ones for me. The bottom right killed me score but I couldn't think of anyone else I was confident about.

I forgot about the franchise moving rule thing. So Expos count as Nats, yes?
Yes, for today's grid -- Nats are also the Expos, Rangers are also the expansion Senators (although if you remember anyone there beyond Frank Howard, you're better than I am) and Dodgers work in either LA or Brooklyn.

As far as recent Sox players go, Tayler Scott (SEA/BAL/SDP/LAD/BOS), Jake Faria (TBR/MIL/ARI/BOS) and Zack Littel (MIN/SFG/BOS/TBR) all seem intent on crafting ideal Grid careers.

I probably couldn't name any Senators. Dodgers seem pretty obvious. Expos/Nats I always forget about when I'm trying to think of players who played there.

I think I have yet to miss any statistical boxes but my mind goes completely blank on the two-team boxes.

I’m terrible at this.

Really surprised Kinsler did not win the gold glove as a Ranger. 2B is one of those positions where a few guys won it and nobody had a hammer lock on it. Pedey was the closest, but he didn’t win it every year. I was really surprised when Kinsler came back a no.

I’ve literally never gotten 9/9 and this has convinced me of two things.
  1. I don’t give a rats ass about 90% of the teams in MLB; and
  2. Most of you are lying about your 9/9s. Y’all cheating, dogg.

Careful with today's silver slugger column - I scored 8 out of 9 for a 176 and was pissed that it did not accept my mariners silver slugger entry. Apparently you need to pick a player that won the award while playing for that team, which is contrary to the other awards in past grids. I chose a player who only won one SS award, but did so for another team and played just one year in Seattle, so I was expecting a low percentage, not a wrong guess.

Not great at the more obscure Marlins ("cup of coffee" guys in between the fire sales), so the rarity score is up to 144 today:

I've always thought that single season stats and awards had to have been won with the team in question, while career stats and awards don't matter.

Nice job @edoug ! We shared a center square today.
I'm surprised to learn that Willie Randolph won a silver slugger award.

9/9 rarity score 132 for me today. Had three sub-1% picks but the Marlins row forced me to go with a few obvious, popular picks as well:

Thanks @Deweys New Stance, some really good gets. Top left is a little painful. Mine was flukey. I pulled it straight out of my, well you can guess. It was going to him or Armando Benitez

Accidentally clicked the wrong Lee for Sea/Phi, then blew Yanks/Brewers with Mike Ford instead of the other transient ex-Yankees 1B Luke Voit. Never got to Phillies/Marlins. I was going to go with Jorge Alfaro, but I wasn't sure enough.

8/9 today. Blew the MFY/PHI square by picking Girardi. I know I was thinking manager but he seems like a guy that should have played for them.

Has anyone else encountered a phone "glitz" when doing this? There have been a couple of occasions when I go to press my player selection the screen moves slightly and I press the player above or below my intended pick. For example, I had the same Yankee/Brewer pick as JMOH and just before pressing the name the screen moved slightly costing me a pick. Same happened with my Yankee/Phillies pick.

First day that I got all 9 for a 161 score. Had to pick the SoSH favorite for top left box:

Managed to get a 9/9 today.

Got 2 of the 3 Brewers by utilizing my knowledge of the Seattle Pilots.

8/9 today. 131 rarity.

My first mistake: I tried to get cute with Silver Slugger. I listed Robbie Cano for the Yankees. I assumed he also won it for the Ms. So I wanted to list Jay Buhner for the Ms. I assume he also won it for the Yanks. Jay Buhner did not win Silver Slugger for the Ms.

Even if I avoided that mistake, I'm not coming up with a Phillies/Marlins player to save my life.

Sat there staring at the MIA/PHI block for five minutes before trying Bruce Chen. How’s Bruce Chen gonna pitch for half the league and not make a spot start for the Marlins!?

Also, I have no idea why Graeme Lloyd IMMEDIATELY came to mind for NYY/MIL.

9/9/152. I'm surprised at the 152 given the high %age of several cells.

Couple of cells nearly stumped me, especially the Miami SS. I took a wild ass guess on Giancarlo Stanton. I could not bring myself to enter Jeets for MFY

OK, so I got a bit of an odd reprieve from my cell phone "glitch". I got home from work and logged into my Chromebook to finish up the couple of guesses that I had remaining to see what I might salvage from my grid. I was pleasantly surprised to find a fresh grid waiting for me and better still, I completed it for the first time. With just two picks left, going with fairly obvious choices for my Miami and Seattle SS winners completed the grid, but accounted for 41 of my 62 points. It's a good day tater.

I'm pleased that I got to use Jim Bouton for my Yankee/Brewer and Heathcliff Slocumb for my Mariner/Phillie. The latter's picture seems oh-so-fitting given how bad he was for the Sox:

Don’t worry, I whiffed on the Miami SS because I guessed Derrek Lee. He did win one, but with the Cubs, not the Marlins
Anyway, did the 7/19 grid already. 8/9, 143. Piggybacking off yesterday’s grid, I figured Damaso Garcia had 100 RBI with the Jays during his SS season, forgetting how middle infielders hit back then. Ted only garnering 0.7% for the All-Star/100+ RBI season seemed extremely low, but I bet the achievement is pretty common.

I got my lowest rarity score today with names that I figured would not be so rare. It’s nice to get back to 9/9

Ran into a weird glitch this morning. When trying to fill in the bottom right square, the search bar kept giving me NFL options. I typed "Rice" and got Jerry but no Jim. Took me three times clicking it and typing Jim Rice before it finally gave him as an option to select. Then it just turned the square green and gave a percentage but no name. That's why I filled it in myself, MS Paint style. Everything else worked fine.

I experienced the same thing. I got 7/9 242 RS
