Belichick was asked about a timetable for Gronk’s recovery. Replied “Are you seriously asking that question?”

Bill Belichick on missing coaches photo on Monday: “Maybe they can photoshop me in there.”

The whole quote is even better.  He woke up in a good mood this morning.  This is a good sign.

“Maybe we could have a bake sale, raise some money for the cameras. We could do a car wash,” he joked. “We just spent however many million dollars on the replay system. I mean, there’s a thousand cameras in every stadium, so if somebody spills a beer on somebody we have it on record, right?”

He is not in the coaches picture because he is the only NFL coach who is not a member of the coaches union.

Which is why (I say in theory as I'm not a gamer) he's the only coach not in NFL Video games

You're got it correct.

Not to be too nit-picky here, Lose, but technically it is not a union but an association. Their position can't unionize. Wikipedia link.

Interesting. Do we know the backstory behind that? Googling turns out nothing other than, perhaps, pique.

BTW, at least according to his twitter account, it was noted dim bulb Ben Volin who asked BB the Gronk question. I guess Volin wants to be this year's version of Idiot Al Breer, asking idiotic questions he knows he won't get an answer to.

I'm starting wonder if Volin is related to Borges.

Managers can't unionize. I think this is just union/labor law basics. I studied it and took a sports law class but I am not a practicing attorney so you'd be better off asking some other SoSHer. We have plenty of lawyers on this board who will shed some light on it. I am probably wrong or only half right or w/e.

It's Gronk. Felt like it had to be asked RT @Grendel_the_Dog @BenVolin You know Belichick isnt going to answer injury questions, so why ask

I've never gotten the sense that Volin is malicious. Just kind of dumb.

Sorry, I was a actually referring- unclearly- to BB being the sole holdout from joining the association. It's not terribly surprising that he's gone lone wolf on this one, but I've heard no specifics.

He is slightly malicious in a lite shit-stirring way. There is a growing subculture of new generation contrarian-lite shit-stirring going on in Boston lately.  Not vintage Shank attacks, not Felger and Masarotti level Contrarianism as a serviceTM, but if you look every day, you will see the stupid headlines generated by Boston.com's Kaufman, Wilbur, etc... It's not a new art in this town obviously, but it worked better when teams, coaches and fans sucked more, not on the heels of another AFC championship game and world series win (and they even sprinkled some in for fun during the Bruins 12 in a row--see Kaufman's Seidenberg is not coming back piece).  /rant

The Bruins should have purposefully lost some games, they peaked too early. Everyone knows you're only alloted a certain number of wins, you need to pick when they are carefully.

This seems like received wisdom here and I'm surprised about the fact as well as how frequently people mention it. Was it something in his question - and - answer? What did I miss?

I've also wondered why Belichick isn't in it. I don't believe Parcells was in it either.

I've seen some reports about Payton and the whole N.O. staff not being members as well.

This article comes the closest to explaining why he isn't in the Association.

Take note that every player or coach quoted in this article, from just 2 years ago, is no longer with the Patriots.

What a fantastic article, not sure how that was missed in the run-up to the 2nd NE-NYG super bowl.  My favorite part:

As the story goes – a story that's taken on legend around the franchise since a number of players retold it – Belichick wasn't pleased when the NFL signed a clothing deal with Reebok that required coaches to wear approved clothing during games. This was some executive in New York telling grown men how to dress. Since when did football coaches become clothing models?
There was no way to opt out of that deal so Belichick considered the fashion options laid out in front of him, and selected the most unstylish outfit, a grey hooded sweatshirt. He began wearing it each week. Only not before having the sleeves cut off to make it even less attractive.
"It's comfortable," Belichick said in explaining his fashion choice. "I carry my stuff in my pouch."
What about chopping off the sleeves?
"I have short arms," Belichick said.

It's hard to get more Belichick than that.

First, time to change the title.

Asked BB if there was example that stood out to him on importance of having QB position accounted for at all layers, and he said 2011 Colts.

Mike Reiss ‏@MikeReiss  1m
BB went on to say that Patriots would never want to build their team in a way that would lead to 1-15 season because of no viable QB option.

Tom E. Curran ‏@tomecurran  6m
I don't think we would put together our team the way Indianapolis did it when they lost Manning. .... I don't think we'd be happy going 1-15

Yet another reason why he is my favorite coach of all time, in any sport, anywhere. I wish he were my boss. I might get fired eventually, but if it happened, I would deserve it. That is the kind of boss I want leading my workplace.

edit: I might get fired for poor spelling.
