He needs to win some ringz thoughI think it's a good call for him personally. Likely a Yankee for life now. If the prduction stays good, he'll be mentioned with the inner circle Yankees for the next 100+ years
Gets to keep his avatar, tooAll things considered, I’m happy as a Sox fan for this and it’s also probably good for Yankee fans like @jon abbey who love the guy.
Now the dominos start to fall?
They can do both!Too bad. Things can only go downward in NY. Going home to the Giants makes more sense in the context of family. I would have preferred to wait a year or two for Dominguez to develop. Along with Volpe, Peraza and the kids.
My thoughts as well. Judge was great last year, but given the injury history I’m still shocked anyone would pay $40M for 9 years for someone who is going to be 31.I’m fine with this. Over $100M in AAV tied up in Judge, a mediocre ace in Cole, and the oft-injured, declining Stanton.
I'm not. Stanton is a bit of a disaster but this is only a problem for the Yankees if they impose a cap on themselves. What near-term move does this prevent from making? Rodon? I have a pretty good feeling that whoever signs Rodon will regret it within a few years. Does it keep them from acquiring Ohtani because they can't afford an extension? I doubt it, I think if that possibility is there they pursue it. The Yankees will likely be better than the Red Sox next year largely because they signed Judge and that sucks.I’m fine with this. Yes, I think Correa will be their main target now, they already signed Haniger last night.Where do the Giants pivot to? Assuming Correa or Boagerts likely in play for them?
Right now, I think every team in the division is (more than) likely to be better than the Red Sox next year. Chaim Bloom’s roster construction is a mess, and the Red Sox don’t seem to be very serious about signing any free agent in particular, including Xander Bogaerts or Nathan Eovaldi. I’m fairly certain we’re heading for another last place finish regardless of where Judge ended up.I'm not. They don’t play on paper or in December, but right now, on paper, the Yankees are much better than the Red Sox, and for that, I’m sad.
''We understand that John Henry must be embarrassed, frustrated and disappointed by his failure in this transaction,'' Zombie Steinbrenner said. ''Unlike the Yankees, he chose not to go the extra distance for his fans in Boston.''That was the ghost of Sias doing zombie work.
Yeah, exactly, the Sox were in last place last season and two of their best starters and their best position player are FA’s. It’s not looking great, so far.Right now, I think every team in the division is (more than) likely to be better than the Red Sox next year. It's up there with Kirk Cousins and Robert Lewandowski, for sure.Judge got himself an extra $150m with his walk year. Best walk year ever?
NY has a ton of exciting position player prospects, I think their future will have a lot to do with how those guys pan out or don’t. The Stanton deal is essentially 6/132 at this point ($22M AAV), not an especially big deal.I posted this general thought in a different thread but wanted to get some thoughts. This deal for Judge seems good for the team in a vacuum, considering roster, fanbase, resources, etc. However, Stanton's status makes Judge's deal a bit dicier in my mind.
Based on Stanton's age (33), general health (lots of injuries), and years left on his contract (five more years), the Judge deal could very likely result in the Yankees having a right handed DH who underperforms their contract for the next 9 seasons.
As a lifelong Yankees fan, I feel fortunate and blessed to have seen seven World Series titles in my lifetime. I think Judge remaining with the Yankees is more likely to help them win another one than not, but you never know.As a lifelong Red Sox fan, I feel fortunate and blessed to have seen four World Series titles in my lifetime, my two late grandparents and my two late uncles would have loved to have seen them win just one.
It's all about perspective.
I agree about the young prospects. My point is that most teams are moving away from older, overpaid players locked in to the DH spot. NYY can afford it, and may end up paying to dump Stanton sometime sooner than later, but I think the Judge deal would look a lot better if Stanton wasn't on the books.NY has a ton of exciting position player prospects, I think their future will have a lot to do with how those guys pan out or don’t.
