David DeJesus was riding a toy horse around the dugout after scoring a run in the 1st...

..and then Miami slapped them around for a sweep. TB 14 games back of Toronto.

Noah Syndergaard comes out after 2/3 of an inning. Injured on a play at home plate, non throwing shoulder.

JJ Hardy a gold glove? Don't make me laugh. Two errors in the game, plus a lotta unadjudicated bad judgment.

Texas takes the lead over Bawlmer.

Nelson Cruz just tried a straight steal of home to win the game in the 10th against Oakland. Norris saw him coming and got Abad to step off and throw him out. Davis was at the plate so not a brilliant idea but I admire the balls.

Mike Trout just hit a GS off Chris Sale to tie the game in the bottom of the 8th.

That's the kind of win you get when things are going right.  That Halos team is starting to solidify but why they don't DFA Ibanez is a mystery.

Especially with CJ Cron hitting at a decent clip.

Listening to the Rays game on the radio and it is getting ugly for Balfour. I must've heard 20+ fans booing the rays at home. 5-0 mariners b9

Trot was much more accurate.

In other news, whatever the Orioles saw in Grant Balfour, not signing him has continued to pay off for them. Gives up 5 runs in the 9th of a scoreless game.

King Felix has 15 K's through 7 shutout innings. As usual, the Mariners haven't scored either.

Any idea why he was lifted after 7 IP, 15 K's, and 100 pitches in a 0-0 game?

Lloyd McClendon just likes to go to the bullpen a little earlier then most other managers do. He did the same for Iwakuma in a similar scenario here: http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?id=340513112, pulling him after 97 pitches and 8 scoreless innings, after which Rodney promptly blew the game. It was disappointing, but defensible, as Felix was laboring a bit in the 7th.

I would be shocked if he is not suspended.

And he should be suspened. He started the drama yesterday by getting bent out of shape because Donaldson tagged him "too hard" when Machado was trying to avoid being put out. Ridiculous.

He also knocked Norris out of the game on a backswing before all that happened. Normally I'd say there's no way that's intentional, but after trying to throw his bat, I'm not so sure.

I'll stick up for Machado a little bit. Pretty much every 3B throws to first instead of trying to tag the runner coming at him there. There were two out and it's the surer play (If Machado notices earlier and stops, Donaldson could end up getting no outs).

So he tries to avoid the tag, and then gets knocked off-balance by the tag which he felt was hard, and he stumbled awkwardly. Of course, this is the guy who missed a season with an ACL tear, so he's probably not feeling great about being knocked off-balance awkwardly.

From that point they jaw at each other and of course neither is going to back down quickly because they want to show they're tough. Who knows what was said.

So today, he definitely shouldn't have thrown his bat and I would agree with a suspension. But, on the pitch that happened, he was being thrown at, near his knees, which, I surmised earlier, he may be kind of sensitive about. So, I don't think that's particularly cool either. It probably could have just been over if the A's had let it go and let the Orioles leave town, but because it was a 10-run lead and teams always have to make things "even" they endangered a star and in turn, had their 3B endangered.

Also, Donaldson was taken out that inning, so he actually threw his bat towards Callaspo, contrary to what people keep repeating. He wouldn't have any specific beef with him, would he? (Not saying it didn't look purposeful).

I think most of this garbage (like the Workman / Price junk) would stop if teams just didn't retaliate (Or if umps tossed guys more quickly instead of issuing warnings). OK, you feel like you're one down but who cares. It's not exciting, often starts from some perceived slight that isn't even a real problem and is just a bunch of players being overly macho.

Machado drew first blood. He drew first blood.

I have a hard time faulting a fielder for tagging a runner. If Manny had concerns over his knee (kind of a weak argument that was mentioned last night on MLB Network) then he shouldn't try to avoid tags, and perhaps consider a different career. I didn't see today's play, so take that into consideration.

When your gripe is "the tag was too hard", it's tough to feel much sympathy. And I hate the O's. Verdict: Fuck Machado.

Machado was actively trying to avoid the tag.  How is Donaldson supposed to gently tag him when Machado is launching himself backwards?  If Donaldson tries to just graze him, out of some ridiculous sense of courtesy, there's a great chance he misses him entirely.  If Manny wants a gentle tag, don't try and avoid it.  Machado was definitely lacking fortitude on that one.

Baltimore then threw at Donaldson for having the nerve to tag Mr. Outrage.  Yet somehow Machado is surprised and/or upset when he gets thrown at?

Royals have 3 runs thus far, all on sac flies, each to a different fielder, one of those to shortstop

That Cespedes throw is something out of a cartoon.  He threw the ball in the air something like 320 feet in the air and it beat Kendrick who has above average speed.  Kudos to Norris for selling the play too.

Nice of his cannon to make up for the butcher work he is doing with that leather thing on his left hand.

Max Scherzer has thrown 99 pitches to get through 8 IP tonight (2 hits, 3 BB, 6 K, 0 R). He holds the record for most career starts without a complete game. Tonight, in his 179th career start, he may get a chance to go the distance.

Carlos Torres came into a tie game for the Mets in the 12th and somehow gave up 7 hits before being pulled (2 in the 12th that didn't score a run, then 5 in top 13 that scored 3), I'd like to know the last time someone came in that late to a game and managed to give up that many hits (if ever).

Whatever they're calling the Oakland Coliseum is still a lousy excuse for a ballpark:

OAKLAND -- A bank of lights in left field was dark in the fourth inning at the Coliseum on Saturday evening, leading to a 38-minute delay for the middle matchup of a three-game set between the A's and Yankees.

The Yankees, trailing, 2-1, at the time, had already taken the field for the fourth when A's manager Bob Melvin was seen in discussion with the umpires. Soon, they were joined by Dave Rinetti, A's vice president of stadium operations, with all eyes on the light fixture.

Nearly 35 minutes later, while starters Scott Kazmir and Hiroki Kuroda stayed loose, the lights began flickering and, soon enough, were deemed bright enough for play to resume.

During the delay, Oakland's television broadcast reported that the lights were never on, but that it wasn't noticed until the fourth, when it became dark enough to see the lights were not functioning.

Giancarlo Stanton hit a home run tonight that you have to see to believe.  A couple of the guys on the desk at MLB network said that it might be the most impressive home run they've ever seen.

Stanton got an outside curve ball from Jason Hammel of the Cubs.  It was a little high, too.  Stanton lined the ball over the fence in right and the ball never got more than 18-20 feet high, tops.  You have to see this line drive to believe it.
