Wow he fell off a cliff the last 2 years. He was a really good player.
They just showed, with Chicago, that they can get value along with a bad contract. Hell, call Dallas and take a goalie plus a 3rd round pick, if that's what they are trying to do. You could be right, but it seems silly to just hand out money. The only explanation I can think of is they're overpaying him to be a backup just to get to the cap floor.
I dunno, they still have 11 picks including the #1 and two second rounders. The extension is a big bet, but it's still just the 16th highest cap hit for a goalie and those are only going up. They've had playoff-worthy seasons sunk in recent years by having Vesa Toskala out there and Reimer getting hurt so I don't really hate this for them. Goalies seem interchangeable and easy to find until you don't have one.Holy overpay. Leafs trade #30 this year and their 2nd rounder next year for Fredrik Andersen.
Well yea, they obviously like Vasilevsky but they went with the less proven cheaper guy.Or more likely they like what they have in Vasilevskiy and don't want to lose one of them for nothing in the expansion draft.
http://www.todaysslapshot.com/from-the-ice/mckenzie-skewers-dim-bulb-tampa-bishop-rumor/“Is it possible the Tampa Bay Lightning could trade netminder Ben Bishop? Yeah, absolutely it’s possible. I would have told you that during the Stanley Cup playoffs. They’ve got a cap crunch coming in Tampa, with or without Stamkos. Ben Bishop is a year away from unrestricted free agency. They’ve got a tremendous goaltender, a young goaltender in Vasilevskiy, who played very well in the playoffs. They’d be foolish not to explore their options. That’s not a news story. That’s not a flash.
“Now apparently some dim bulb in Tampa has started to say that ‘there’s reports out of Canada that Calgary has a deal in place for Ben Bishop,’ which, if they do, it’s news to me. I certainly didn’t say that, and I’m not aware of anybody else who did either.
“But I do believe the Tampa Bay Lightning will listen on Ben Bishop, and may well be in a position at some point to trade him. Maybe not. Maybe they’ll go in a different direction. But it’s certainly one of a number of options they’d consider. Just like Pittsburgh would consider a Marc-Andre Fleury trade, and a lot of teams are going to be looking at goaltender trades, especially with an expansion draft coming up.
Trading for Pavel Datsyuk's $7.5 million cap hit would help close that gap immensely.Salary cap will be at $73m this coming season with $54m as the floor.
As it stands today, that's $20m to make up for the Coyotes. Sounds like they're close on Goligoski for $5.5m and have ~$6-8m additional coming to their RFA/Arb guys but man... Chayka will have room to get creative.
Thank god. I wanted nothing to do with Yandle. That contract is ghastly.Oh boy, there goes the backup plan.
Glad we didn't get stuck with that contract. Now go get Shattenkirk.Thank god. I wanted nothing to do with Yandle. That contract is ghastly.
He's reportedly looking for $6.5m AAV on his next deal. That's a real tough sell for me, especially as advanced numbers and his sheltering in St. Louis have him right around Krug's value.Glad we didn't get stuck with that contract. Now go get Shattenkirk.
Why buy out Seids? Isn't he an important unprotected asset for the expansion draft? He's reportedly looking for $6.5m AAV on his next deal. That's a real tough sell for me, especially as advanced numbers and his sheltering in St. Louis have him right around Krug's value.
Acquiring one of Dumba/Brodin, re-signing Liles, buying out Seidenberg, and shipping out McQuaid would be an acceptable 'miss' on a big fish so to speak for me.
