The Crucible (DDL with two of Bill's faves: Joan Allen and Winona Ryder. I could see him making the arguments that it speaks to the current times' religious overreach and the young girls are similar to the cancel culture social media mobs that try to destroy people's livelihoods and lives through their accusations.)
This seems waaaaaaaaaaay too intellectual and deep for Bill Simmons.

The job of The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, Chris Ryan and Sean Fennessey is not to talk, it is to sit there and look innocent. The guys kick off Courtroom Month on ‘The Rewatchables’ by revisiting the 1996 mystery-drama ‘Primal Fear,’ starring Richard Gere, Laura Linney, and Edward Norton.

I think Presumed Innocent is a lock for courtroom July. Especially because of all the Harrison Ford talk happening on the Ringer podcasts in general.

Primal Fear pod is an all-timer. Simmons is at the peak of his powers. No spoilers from me.

Seconded. The rest of the month will have a hard time living up to this one, but if the next FIVE (I believe he said there would be 6 in this "courtroom month") can come anywhere close to this one, we're all in for a great ride.

I’m embarrassed to admit for the first 20-30 minutes when they referenced the character Shaughnessy, l I thought it was some weird celebrity mash-up nickname for Sean Fennessey.

Absolutely. I'd guess My Cousin Vinny as well. And maybe a Juliet/Amanda take on Legally Blonde.

Edit: nope, they (plus Bill) did LB in 21.

Excellent! Love it any time Morris is on the pod.

Overall I thought 'A Time to Kill' was a fun/informative listen. But two guys that work in pop culture couldn't come up with any white dudes named Rufus? Took me like 1.7 seconds to come up with Wainwright & Sewell.

Me too on the Rufus. That was odd.

These pods are better with three people. So A Time To Kill was good but could have been better. Morris was great. Simmons was Simmons, which is to say he didn't destroy it and he can't pronounce words but it was ok.

I'm surprised they didn't dive into the fact that Joel Schumacher seemed to be obsessed with vigilanteism for a stretch there in the 90s. Falling Down, his Batman movies, A Time to Kill, 8MM...It was kind of his thing. In general, I think the podcast would be better if Wesley Morris were on every episode.

The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, Chris Ryan, and Wesley Morris look to answer the question of "What is a yute?" by revisiting the 1992 comedy ‘My Cousin Vinny,’ starring Joe Pesci, Marisa Tomei, Ralph Macchio, and Fred Gwynne.

I agree with Bill and Wesley's take on Fran, but I laughed when Bill said he would send Chris a picture of Drescher from back in her prime, and Chris just simply shot back, "I've seen Fran Drescher."
The way Bill said Wesley when Wesley said “Pesci was sexy” is great.

Catching up on some back episodes but Bill’s take on Jonah Hill in the “This is the End” pod has not aged well and it’s only been a few weeks. For the record I was with him on Hill until the recent stuff came out.

The Ringer's Bill Simmons and Sean Fennessey and The New York Times's Wesley Morris are out of order in their revisit of the 1979 mystery-drama 'And Justice For All' starring Al Pacino, Jack Warden, and John Forsythe.

This was great and can't believe no one has talked about what Bill's wife said and Bill reported back. I don't think Van and CR were expecting it and I was doubled over laughing.

I listened to that part this morning and cannot believe Bill went there. Definitely an all-time Rewatchables moment. I also loved Van's story about the call he received from the video store. Great episode. Van is always great on pods.

Van rules. I’ve forgiven (as much as that means) him for working at TMZ, and he’s really such an interesting guy. His TMZ past is something he’s talked about, regretfully, here.

Live from the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, Chris Ryan, and Sean Fennessey are in the business of saving lives. They revisit one of the first movies they covered on 'The Rewatchables,' nearly 300 episodes ago, Rob Reiner’s ‘A Few Good Men,’ starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, and Demi Moore. Written by Aaron Sorkin.

I've only just started this, but Bill's pronunciation of "emeritus" is immediately eligible for the BS Mispronunciation Hall of Fame.

Bill's "What's Aged the Worst" about Markinson's suicide note got me (and CR and Fennessey) real good.

The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, Chris Ryan, and Van Lathan pack up the station wagon and head to Walley World to rewatch Harold Ramis’s 1983 classic ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation,’ starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, and Anthony Michael Hall.

It’s about the funniest thing he’s said in years, something that can only come from watching a movie dozens of times

The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, Chris Ryan, Sean Fennessey, and Mallory Rubin form an unnamed secret society to rewatch the 1999 psychological drama Eyes Wide Shut, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, and directed by Stanley Kubrick.

I wonder how many minutes it takes for Mal to make Sean physically shrink into his chair out of sheer discomfort.

They originally dropped this episode behind a paywall in 2019 (remember Luminary?), as part of that 1999 film retrospective. It’s worth a listen.

I really got a kick out of the Vacation one. Chris and Van just jumping in and quoting obscure lines - and then giggling hysterically - sounded exactly like what some friends and I used to do with some of those same exact lines.

So is it a new episode or a replay of the 1999 one? I want to hear Wayne Jenkins at an orgy.

It’s a replay. They’re basically moving the 1999 library from behind that Luminary paywall.

Which topless girl in a mask did Bill recast with Sydney Sweeney?
I don’t think he mentions her. But since this episode was recorded right after ‘Euphoria’ debuted he may not have been obsessed with her yet.

He seemed torn on whether he wanted to do this movie. At one point he suggested that they speed through the recording because he can’t imagine getting a couple hours of content out of it. Everyone is like….really? THIS movie? It’s fascinating, whatever else you think of it.
