There was an orgy of possible outcomes. At least he went into this scam with both feet.
He could have bet on the Patriots to win in 2023.I could care less about the under 21 part, but his placing bets on LSU games in which he was playing was the same thing that got Pete Rose into trouble (and deservedly so). Hard to think of something more dumb.
This is the crazy part; nearly 9,000 bets over a year including his own team. My man got himself a problem.https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/patriots-wr-kayshon-boutte-arrested-for-taking-part-in-illegal-sports-betting-while-at-lsu/ar-BB1hgjgj
"He is alleged to have placed more than 8,900 wagers using his alias from April 6, 2022 thorugh May 7, 2023. Per the release, he was alleged to have placed at least 17 wagers on NCAA football games, including six of which were placed on LSU football."
Maturity and/or mental health issues are one of the reasons he fell to the 6th round. He doesn't seem like a bad kid, just troubled, but I think this ends his stint in Foxboro unfortunately. This is the crazy part; nearly 9,000 bets over a year including his own team. My man got himself a problem.

I heard today that it was PHI -3What was the spread week 1? That was some suspiciously bad footwork.
Unfortunately looks like he had 2 catches for 20 yds and no TDs.That particular game was LSU versus Florida State on September 4, 2022 where Boutte allegedly placed one bet that he would personally score at least one touchdown in the game and another bet that he would have over 82.5 receiving yards.
Unclear how much was profit. Deposited 132K; withdrew 50K. Doesn't appear to say how much money if any was still in the accountIf he has a sufficient edge to generate $500K in profits.... He might have a more lucrative career as a pro gambler than football player
According to the warrant, during 2022 and 2023:
- Boutte deposited a total of $132,147.53 into the account
- Boutte won a total of $556,267.58, but used most of that money to make additional bets
- Boutte withdrew $50,282.36 from the account
If he has a sufficient edge to generate $500K in profits.... He might have a more lucrative career as a pro gambler than football player
Committing a felony? Is this an NFL matter? I wonder what the charge would be.
Betting on sports but not through an official NFL partner?
Winning 500k isn't the same as 500k profit. If you bet $100 one day and $100 the next day both at even money and you go 1/2 you "won" $200, but profited nothing. If he has a sufficient edge to generate $500K in profits.... He might have a more lucrative career as a pro gambler than football player
I don't even understand what the fuck we're doing as a country.Committing a felony?
Great post! Sports leagues getting in bed with online gambling isn't going to end well. Boutte's problem isn't the first and certainly won't be the last. I predict a Black Sox level scandal in the not-so-distant future.I don't even understand what the fuck we're doing as a country.

Kayshon Boutte allegedly didn’t do much to hide his illegal gambling. While placing more than 8,900 bets while underage (including some on his LSU football team) he used accounts with the username “kayshonboutte7” and “kayshonboutte01” according to the affidavit.
Great post. The moral panic about gambling is pretty farcical at this point. The real ouroboros of it all is all these rules about who can gamble and when are set up to protect the gamblers and casinos.I don't even understand what the fuck we're doing as a country.
It's a felony to be 20 and bet on sports, because the law requires you to be 21. One would think the law is designed to protect the 20 year old, not punish him. You're 18, so you're an adult, so we can treat you like one in the criminal justice system. But, you're not 21 so you can't gamble. Why? Because even though you're an adult, your brain is still mush and we the sportsbooks have to pretend we give a shit, even though we'd love your money, because it's the only way we can get the state legislatures to approve this regressive evil bullshit. But, you know, if you use your mother's account to do something you're too young to do, even though an adult, we're going to throw you in the pokey. Also, if there's a war you have fight in it. Sorry.
And the crime? Well, the crime is gambling on sports. Which is very bad. So bad that the league you're now in makes billions off it. But, before you were in the league, you shouldn't have bet. You can bet now, of course, just only on sports other than NFL and not in the parking lot. Never in the fucking parking lot! Because that would be awful. Because gambling is bad. Except not so bad that we won't take everyone's money.
And, yes, now that you did this in college, but not the NFL, we're going to take away your livelihood so that when you do lose, it will fuck you up bad. Though problem gambling is very bad. If you have any doubt about that, the fine print on the app should have a
phone number. The fact that less than 2 percent of sports better withdraw more than they deposited is not relevant. They all can afford it. You can't. Now.
I'm not going to defend betting on his own games. It's not good and if he had been caught doing it while in college, he should have been punished. I say that even though you know he's hardly the only one, and at this point maintaining some kind of illusion that this is anything but theater about the existential risk that gambling poses to "integrity of the game" is getting hard to take seriously. But, still, I can get behind the idea -- if you're dumb enough to bet on your own team or against your own team, you shouldn't be surprised if you get consequences.
The rest of it? It is dripping wet with hypocrisy.

Unless he’s somehow implicated in throwing games, I’m not sure he has any leverage to cut a deal.If he isn't furiously negotiating a plea deal, he's insane.

Great post and as someone that enjoys gambling but only with money I can afford to lose, what is really infuriating is every single draftkings or FD promo before any sporting event is a fucking Parlay. Hitting straight parlays are insanely hard and going to lead to a lot more losses than standard gambling. They have even made it a lot harder to place teaser bets on apps now which is what 99% of people trying to hit big with parlays should be doing.I don't even understand what the fuck we're doing as a country.

Saving the prosecution the trouble of prosecuting is worth a little something I'm sure. Hopefully he didn't cross too many lines.Unless he’s somehow implicated in throwing games, I’m not sure he has any leverage to cut a deal.
Of course, if he’s not suspected of throwing games, the “crime” here is one of stupidity, not maliciousness. So he probably won’t (or at least shouldn’t) receive anything more than a slap on the wrist.

Moral panic is a strong cultural hallmark of America and has been lit on fire in this digital age. It is how we test boundaries of newly implemented rules, norms, or laws. Those who get caught early running afoul of new parameters often pay the steepest price. I hope Boutte is able to get off with next to nothing and have another go at the nfl.Great post. The moral panic about gambling is pretty farcical at this point. The real ouroboros of it all is all these rules about who can gamble and when are set up to protect the gamblers and casinos.
Yeah this is true. When I started to relay the story to my kid he said pretty quickly “fraud.” I’m assuming too that he didn’t have his mom’s permission to use her card for gambling.Sure, but you asked what the NFL would punish him for.
Though also... the illegal gambling gets the headline, but it isn't the felony it's a misdemeanor. The felony is the credit card/computer fraud of creating a fake person and using another person's credit card.
