As long as you are checking wikipedia, where are her parents from?
So basically, in your mind, it's ok to say that Asian people are ugly as long as they are actually Asian? Or does Wie not count because her parents were born in Hawaii?WaxPack said:Was there some context to that?

I think anyone following sports since, say, 2005, would know she's from Hawaii. I think if you asked her, she'd say "I am an American." I understand that doesn't matter to Callahan. HE will tell us who is an American and who isn't.
As I suggested, though, it doesn't really matter. Minihane's misogyny, combined with Callahan's chauvinism win the day.

Racism. He created an Asian stereotype ("Butterface? What do you expect from those Asians").
He said something racist.
Does anyone know of any contact info to complain about this and Callahan's overall bigotry? I text weei often with complaints but only receive a generated spam message in return. I guess it may be time to try calling them.

Which is so not true in regards to Michelle Wie, but that's just my opinion. But I'm asian, so what do I know?
I did not even put those two together. I totally missed that, if that was his intention and then yes that is a totally racist and a disgrace.tomdeplonty said:Yes, it's racist. C thought he was making a clever pun. Butter is yellow, you know?

Yes, saying Asian women have good bodies and ugly faces is racist. Saying you are not specifically attracted to Asians is not. That's the difference.BoSoxFink said:Is this really a racist comment though or a matter of opinion? I hate Callahan as much as the next guy and I can't wait for these clowns to get off the air, but saying you are not attracted to Asian's is not racist in my opinion. I am not in the same boat as I find plenty of Asian women attractive, but I don't think it is racist to say you are not attracted to them because they are Asian. It doesn't mean one would discriminate against an Asian necessarily other than not wanting to sleep with her.
Racism to me would be Callahan saying she shouldn't be in this country or using a racial slur against her or something of that ilk which he has done before I would believe in other situations. I just don't think in this instance it could be considered racist necessarily. Just a horrible taste in women.
I fully understand this point of view, but I know people who are not attracted to certain races whatsoever, but in my book they are not racist for not being attracted to them.Reverend said:Saying all Asians look alike with respect to facial features isn't a real strong position with respect to, well, respect for others.

What is the difference though? If you are not attracted to Asian's or any other specific race, there is usually a reason why. Maybe in the particualr person's opinion it is because he believes their faces to be ugly and thus is not attracted to them, or it could be the reverse, he doesn't like their bodies or some specific feature that most of that race has. Whatever I am going to stop here, because I will probably end up getting myself in trouble and people will disagree I am sure, and anyways the point is moot if Callahan was using the "yellowness" of butter when referring to Wie. That is 100% racist.URI said:Yes, saying Asian women have good bodies and ugly faces is racist. Saying you are not specifically attracted to Asians is not. That's the difference.

changer591 said:Honestly, reading just the quote from above and not actually hearing it, I didn't make or think he made a connection between the butterface and her race. I just took it was him saying that all Asian women were ugly. Which is different than saying "I think Asians are ugly". But that's just because Callahan is known to say stupid crap like that...I probably wouldn't have an issue with most people making a crack about that. But on top of the whole "eating dog" thing that I actually heard last week, that show doesn't really deserve too much leeway.
Thanks I haven't tried that. I had assumed there would be an app for 98.5 or The Sports Hub specifically (like EEI) so I searched those and didn't come up with anything. The Napkin said:radio.com app should get you 98.5 shouldn't it?

I agree with the second statement but disagree with the first. I do not think Callahan is half as clever as you do. You in a way are giving him too much credit.tomdeplonty said:Yes, it's racist. C thought he was making a clever pun. Butter is yellow, you know?

Chief Wahoo said:I almost hate to defend him 'cause I mostly find him a curmudgeon but I was listening this morning got a far different impression of what Callahan said. Minihane indeed called Michelle Wie a butterface and Callahan did indeed say she's asian but if anything it seemed to me both D & C were disagreeing with Minihane's characterization of her as a butterface in the first place. The segment went something like this (not verbatim of course):
- [Talk about Wie's win this weekend, the purple(?) shorts she was wearing and her general attractiveness.]
- Minihane: She's a butterface.
- Dennis or Callahan (not sure): I think she's kinda cute.
- [Crosstalk]: Butterface/kinda cute.
- Callahan: She's asian. I thought you liked... [crosstalk]
- Minihane: I like some more than others. I like (name i didn't recognize nor remember)
- [D&C crosstalk]: Who's that? Never heard of her.
- Minihane: She's a performer in the adult film industry.
Of course I may have misheard as well.

If this is closer to what he said then it's not nearly as bad as what the other guy posted. Whoops.
Which is annoying because a couple weeks ago I posted a verbatim quote of his that appeared to be problematic and people spent two pages lambasting me for not "linking to a source" yet this guy posts something that it turns out is highly misleading and everyone just runs with it.
As one of the people lambasting you a few weeks ago I completely agree with you on this comment.ForKeeps said:

"I'm not attracted to most Asian women."
"Asian women are ugly."
One is an opinion, one is passing your opinion as a racist fact.
I dont find many Asian women attractive. I dont think it makes me racist, because I dont think its my choice on what I find attractive or not. Unless we're deciding its a persons choice as to what they find attractive(which I think we can all agree is nonsense.)mt8thsw9th said:
I don't know, saying an attractive woman isn't attractive due to her race seems pretty racist (I'm not opining on Michelle Wie here, for what it's worth, but she's by no objective measure an ugly person).
Saying most women are attractive due to their race is just creepy.
Whatever Callahan's motive was (be it 'Asians are butterfaces' or a reference to butter being yellow), it was just par for the course from someone who is a documented racist.

That isnt to say I find them all unattractive, but I find a much smaller % of Asian women attractive then white, spanish, and black girls.
I do think thats different then saying "shes a butterface because shes Asian", but Im OK with being wrong.
