Apparently he walked off the field before the end of last night's game and there is lots of chatter about letting him go.

If he's cut (which is anyone's guess at this point), would there be any value in bringing him back to help our depth? I suspect he'd come cheap in light of recent events, and while we are all excited about Gray, we need to temper that with the understanding that it IS one game.

I don't think there's any way they cut him.  We could use RB depth, Indy just lost Bradshaw.  Why cut a guy that can and probably will help another playoff team? They can just make him inactive the rest of the year or put him on team suspension.

I don't see how the situation would be materially different in NE. Not that there's a Bell ahead of him, but there likely won't be consistent reps either.

Then again, it's BB, so who knows.

I'd also rather take a flier on Ben Tate than Blount, but both are on the outs due to their reaction to diminished roles. There's no way to guarantee them more of a workload in New England if Jonas Gray proves to be more than a flash in the pan. If they're at peace with that going in, then fine, and New England offers each a legit shot at a ring...more so than Pittsburgh or Cleveland do this season, so there's at least a hook. Can't see much harm in at least gauging their interest.

After reading that article, I'd say "No".  He sounds like locker room poison.  Maybe that's why the Pats let him go in the first place.

There's really no room on the roster for another running back (obviously not strictly true, but true of guys that are going to be freely available) unless they find an IR spot/give up on James White

Neither Blount nor Tate plays special teams.  Not enough of a role (beyond injury insurance).  Couldn't drop Bolden.

RB is perhaps the least stable position in a league notorious for instability. Blount has been successful in the Patriots system and is good insurance for a team that's looking to make a deep January run.

Is he critical? No.

Would he be nice to have, attitude and exact role aside? Yes.

As for the roster spot, with Siliga's impending return do we need Casey Walker in the roster?

Blount was the best kick returner last year, but I don't think he's taking Amendola's space on the roster. I actually like Blount on this roster over Bolden, but I don't think Belichick will agree.

It's a fair point, but these things have a way of working themselves out at the end of the roster (IR, etc.).

Mike Reiss thinks that the Patriots are set at RB, but I actually disagree. Bolden is a special teamer and White is in "red shirt" mode, so I think Blount could add important depth.

Yeah, I think Bolden's too valuable on special teams to cut as a core guy in all 4 units. (Right?)

Edits to add some detail.

Bolden can also catch the ball out of the backfield, which Blount doesn't really do. If Vereen goes down and BB isn't ready to make White the regular third down back, Bolden is a much better guy to have around.

The best outcome with Blount right now, and its somewhat likely to happen, is that no one signs him and if Gray gets hurt he's available.

Steelers are probably going to grab Tate.  If they were to lose Bell, they would be in some trouble.

Tate wanted out of Houston because he couldn't be the man with Foster there.  Tate wanted out of Cleveland because he wasn't the primary back either.  Why would Pitt walk away from one malcontent in Blount only to bring in another in Tate?

Now Indy just put Bradshaw on IR and Richardson is Richardson.  Tate to Indy makes all the sense in the world.

They later announced Josh Harris, an undrafted rookie out of Wake Forest, has been promoted from the practice squad to replace Blount on the roster.

Speaks volumes to me the teams that have let Blount go in his career.  I'm a little surprised they did it with the lack of proven depth after him.  That says he's become enough of an issue in the locker room to be addition by subtraction.

Steelers are smart, depth or no.

This was Terry Glenn level bullshit that broke out on 3 different teams this weekend, and you just can't have it.

I really like his game, but I don't see any room for him here at the moment. Yet I would hope for that kind of depth at RB - tough call.

I'm sure BB knows what he's doing. Blount is now a BB guy.

Thinking it through a little more, given that Vereen and Ridley's contracts are both up, it is nice to have a veteran back under contract for next year. I like that aspect of it.

Yep, math says two in, two out, and Siliga definitely will be one. Hope this doesn't mean Fleming's ankle is IR-bad...
