Hampton (soon to be 16-17) is about to win the MEAC, and they'll almost certainly be the consensus lowest-rated team in the field as they head to Dayton.

Davidson's good at that.  They came back from 13 down against Appalachian State in the '13 Socon semifinals, too.

Well, they'll need to do it again. Trailing VCU by 13 now after being down 44-28 at halftime. 13:25 left to play.

deep inside Guido territory
I pretty much feel how I did after the Chris Matthews catch except there was no Malcom Butler to bail me out.  Gut wrenching painful loss.

I swear I am haunted when it comes to basketball teams I am associated with.  My high school team hasn't won a state title since 1967 and has choked a number of times, my alma mater hasn't won a title since the 90s, and then SB has lost 4 of the last 5 title games.

Last No. 1 seeds that didn't win conference regular season or tournament were UConn and Pitt in 2009.
Yeah committee clearly values it. If Wisconsin Arizona Kansas and Villanova all win their conference tourneys then Duke and UVA will both likely be two seeds.

One thing on UVA vs. Duke is that UVA has lost two of three, whereas Duke had won like 12 in a row. But not sure that matters to the committee.

By the way, tonight's SWAC championship game will be a bit anticlimactic. Texas Southern has already clinched the league's NCAA auto-bid. In fact, they locked it up after winning yesterday -- even before the second semifinal had been played -- because both Southern U (who play the Tigers in tonight's final) and Alabama State were both ruled ineligible for the tournament due to APR sanctions.

Harvard's all over Yale early on the defensive end. Yale's D has also been solid but the Crimson are rotating well, staying patient, and moving the ball around the perimeter and to cutters inside. It's 8-0 Harvard five minutes in.

EDIT - Much better movement by Yale, and they're on a 14-3 run. Lots of in-and-out passing and solid picks.

This game has been an absolute blast to watch. Both teams are so well-disciplined it's ridiculous.

Temple got within 7 of SMU in the waning minutes, but they're down 12 now with under 40 secs to play.

URI played a solid first half, and they'd held Dayton to 36% from the field before the Flyers' got the final bucket at the buzzer to tie the game, 24-24. IMO they still need to win the A-10 to get to the dance.

That dude on Maryland was totally out of position on that rebound, and it leads to a fast break and an intentional foul the other way

Yup. The Terps are falling apart and losing composure, and MSU is twisting the knife late -- but the Spartans need to hit their FTs.

EDIT - And now Maryland completely fails to box out on a rebound, allowing a reach-out tip-in to put MSU up 7.

Arkansas dispatches the Dawgs, 60-49. An abysmal offensive performance by Georgia after scoring just 17 in the first half.

I told myself that Harvard was playing with house money after last weekend, but this Yale run is killing me.

Unranked Michigan St was favored over # 8 Maryland?  Did Maryland have injuries that caused that line?
Rankings and Vegas lines are not nearly as highly correlated as you seem to think. If reporters were that smart, they'd be rich.

It really was a tremendous game. Thoroughly enjoyed it having no dog in the race. Huge respect for both Jones & Amaker and the styles of play they bring to the court.

As soon as they got the crowd back into it, that game was a fait accompli.

Iowa State making a comeback for the ages. After trailing Kansas 37-23 at halftime, they've outscored the Jayhawks 34-15 in the 2nd.

Meanwhile Wyoming is officially a serious threat to bust into the brackets, up 40-37 on SDSU with 3:30 to play.

Anyone think the Champs have played their way in, even with a close loss tomorrow?

I'd be shocked if that was the case. The teams they're playing in the ACC don't have enough schedule strength punch to boost their ratings sufficiently. There are about a dozen and a half teams ahead of them in the pecking order.

Yeah, I imagine you're right.  Okay, might as well just win tomorrow then.

It'll be an all-Peach State final in the Sun Belt tomorrow as both Louisiana schools go down. Georgia State withstands a late charge from UL-Lafayette to win 83-79 (after leading by 17 at half) and Georgia Southern edges UL-Monroe, 44-43.

Southern U playing the SWAC final as if it actually means something to them. Up a point in the final 30 seconds, but now a McHale-esque clothesline at the other end against a Texas Southern player on a breakaway layup attempt. It'll probably be a flagrant 2 with an ejection.

EDIT - And it is. Committed by Southern's coach's son, no less. The kid he hammered is on the sidelines now with his head wrapped up. The sub hits both FTs and Texas Southern keeps the ball with 25 sec left.

Shades of McHale on Rambis in Southern/Texas Southern.

Southern leads by 1 point with 27.1 seconds remaining, but one of their players has been ejected and Texas Southern will have 2 shots and the ball.

Bobby Hurley is about to join Tommy Amaker as an ex-Duke guard taking a team to this year's dance. Best thing to happen to Buffalo since Rex Ryan.

Gus Johnson's awesomeness is being wasted (and muted) tonight on a drama-free Villanova blowout of Xaver.

It's like he's calling a croquet match between Ben Stein and George Will.

SFA is on a 9-0 run, up 33-25 with about 2 left in the 1sr. Two big injuries though - one looked like a knees completely collapsed. Hope they can keep it up without those guys.

Plus the three at the buzzer to close the half up 10. And it all started right after SHSU took that brief 25-24 lead.

I'm still trying to figure out how the fuck SFA managed to lose to TAMU-Corpus Christi.

iirc they shot like 35 percent or something.

Walkup is a great player. Ty Charles, the freshman, is a legit star. Hope he stays after Underwood gets hired away this offseason.
