6-10 in 2018. Would not bang.
100%. One of my best friends is a diehard Bills fan...I dont see him all that often but visited him and his fam this weekend and he's got his 5 year old daughter wearing Josh Allen jerseys and screaming about McDermott. He doesn't think Bills will reach their ceiling and/or get past the Bengals/Chiefs with him at the helm. That's not to say he's right, its still armchair coaching, but my guess is a lot of bills mafia feels this way. His last two seasons ended with an all time gut punch loss to the Chiefs, barely scraping by Thompson before getting blown out at home by the Bengals...would still rather be a Bills fan next few years than a Pats fan though. sigh.He was also given a top QB in Josh Allen to work with. He hasn't gotten over the hump. Maybe that's not all on him and yes Mahomes stands in his way, but hell, the Bengals of all teams managed to get past the Chiefs. McDermott hasn't. Heck, he's lucky new boy genius Mike McDaniel decided to have his 3rd string QB throw 45 passes in a playoff game. It nearly worked anyway.
McDermott is a clown because of his fake tough guy persona. He's always been that way and it could be argued that despite all the talent on his team, they have under-acheived over the last couple of years.
The players love McDermott. He completely changed the culture of one of the worst franchises of this century and took them to the playoffs in 5 of his 6 years after a 19 year drought consisting of awful awful football. He's a former football player and wrestler. Not a faux tough guy just no nonsense. Your description is of what you want or imagine a person to be, not what he is.He was also given a top QB in Josh Allen to work with. He hasn't gotten over the hump. Calling him a hardo who is too extra is fair. Calling him a fraud is really not correct. If the players love McDermott why is one of them having a very public meltdown over touches or ... something?
I stand by my assessment of McDermott 100%. He's a fraud. He didn't change the culture, his GM finally drafted a decent QB.
Would love to see him collapse, but he seemed like a pretty decent coach to me. Is the belief that he's just winning because he's got vastly superior talent? I could buy that, I guess, but I had a positive impression of him as an NFL head coach. I don't pretend to be an authority on that though.McDermott is a clown and always has been. This may well be the year where he loses control of the whole operation due to his relentless attempts to seem like a tough guy.
Here's to hoping.
Yep, and Diggs has a long history of doing just that. Some players are just going to be difficult and create drama. Not sure why anybody thinks the coach is at fault.
Antonio Brown has neglected more bills and now a bunch of football players are out of work.
The National Arena League team that Brown purchased earlier this year — Albany Empire — has been kicked out of the league due to lack of payment.
“After exhausting all avenues, the NAL board of owners have decided unanimously to terminate the membership agreement of the Albany Empire,” the NAL said in a statement. “The decision was reached after an emergency conference call of the members in good standing to discuss the Empire’s failure to pay their league mandated and overdue assessments. Each team is responsible to pay for 1/7 of the league’s operating budget via monthly assessments starting in April. The Empire’s owner, Antonio Brown, was also fined $1,000 for Conduct Detrimental to the League for his recent public comments. Mr. Brown refused to pay that fine.”
https://www.masslive.com/sports/2023/06/antonio-browns-arena-team-kicked-out-of-league.htmlBrown had until noon on Thursday afternoon to pay the outstanding bills and didn’t meet the deadline. It’s not the league’s first payment issue with him, either.
“After acquiring the Albany Empire, new team owner Antonio Brown paid the Empire’s April assessment,” they said. “The team then failed to make their May 15th assessment payment and last week just before the Empire’s game in Orlando, the league was notified that the April assessment was being challenged. That payment was subsequently credited back to Mr Brown. The league informed his accountant, Alex Gunaris, who in previous communications requested that the league communicate directly with Mr Gunaris regarding financial obligations with the Empire. Mr Gunaris was informed of the league’s attempts to collect the delinquent assessments and he communicated to the league that it didn’t seem like Mr Brown was going to pay the assessment or fine.”
Wait......He was also given a top QB in Josh Allen to work with. He hasn't gotten over the hump. Maybe that's not all on him and yes Mahomes stands in his way, but hell, the Bengals of all teams managed to get past the Chiefs. McDermott hasn't. Who was the ultimate "tough-guy/idiot" who had the axe in the locker room resulting in an injury?Wait......
Josh Allen was VERY far from a mortal lock great QB. He was largely viewed as a cannon arm who was more likely to end up as a Jamarcus Russell than a Pat Mahomes. McDermott has done a great job putting the right people around Allen to develop him and grow him.
As far as fake tough guy personas, come on. They all do that crap. Whether it is Belichick or Parcells ignoring the media, or Dan Campbell doing his Ric Flair stuff, or Jimmy Johnson cutting a guy on a plane, I mean....it's all silliness. I hated McDermott when he was with the Eagles. I thought his defensive play calling was tone deaf and easily read. But he has done a nice job building this Bills team and has had some crap luck in the playoffs so far.
Jack Del Rio.Who was the ultimate "tough-guy/idiot" who had the axe in the locker room resulting in an injury?
Cap issues aside, (and I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't clear to Diggs), but I bet he's hoping he can get himself reunited with Daboll with the Giants. The players love McDermott. So what is the Diggs situation all about?
The offense took a massive step backward last year after losing Daboll. The stats look similar, but everything just seemed so much more difficult for the offense. Nothing came easy, and it seemed like the entire game plan was "Josh, go do stuff". Many believe the players have no confidence in Ken Dorsey, Diggs in particular.
Ahh, I dunno -- the Damar Hamlin thing was pretty awful luck, if you want to call it that. And it clearly took a lot out of the team, including Diggs. Here in NE, there's a pretty good case to be made that the Tomasi tape and Moss sexual assault stories that came out literally within 24 hours of the Super Bowl were part of the reason the Scottish Game ended the way it did. These things can drain a team in ways you can't predict -- and you can't lay that sort of thing at McDermott's feet.As for crap luck, not seeing it. They were lucky to escape the Miami game with a win despite Miami playing their 3rd string Qb, and then they got destroyed by Cincy. They underachieved.
We're going to disagree on that. Hamlin's injury was awful luck but he was also out of the hospital by January 9. The playoff game against Miami was Jan 15 and the one against Cincy was Jan. 22. They could have used it for inspiration. Instead they played listlessly. That's on McDermott.Ahh, I dunno -- the Damar Hamlin thing was pretty awful luck, if you want to call it that. Yep, the punter was chopping wood.Jack Del Rio.
Yeah, the punter hurt himself but Del Rio was the dipshit who had it installed. It was the punter.
A mildly fun read years after the fact:

I assumed that was what you meant but shockingly I did not communicate that well/at all.Yeah, the punter hurt himself but Del Rio was the dipshit who had it installed.
If Diggs' move here is to divorce himself from Allen to team up with Jones (even with Daboll) than his judgment is severely out of whack. Yes, Jones had a few good games, but Allen has become the QB unicorn you can ride your whole career. Aside from Mahomes or maybe Burrow, there's no other QB that fits that bill.Cap issues aside, (and I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't clear to Diggs), but I bet he's hoping he can get himself reunited with Daboll with the Giants.
Additionally, Diggs turns 30 in November. His prime has maybe 2-3 years remaining. I don't understand why he's pouting in Buffalo when his situation likely represents the best he'll find anywhere in the league. If Diggs' move here is to divorce himself from Allen to team up with Jones (even with Daboll) than his judgment is severely out of whack. I agree wholeheartedly.Additionally, Diggs turns 30 in November. His prime has maybe 2-3 years remaining. I don't understand why he's pouting in Buffalo when his situation likely represents the best he'll find anywhere in the league.
I have no data to back this up, just my general misanthropy. But I tend to think that a player's off-field noise-making (non-criminal variety) is directly related to the fact that *he* knows his skills and/or desire are slipping. Athletes may be the last to admit such things about themselves, but they are likely the first to recognize them.Additionally, Diggs turns 30 in November. His prime has maybe 2-3 years remaining. I don’t think these guys are entirely rational. He is probably one of those guys — you see them in sports — who is really up in his own head and just thinks about stuff all the time. Little perceived slights get exacerbated. They don’t have full time jobs in the off-season. They are working out and doing other stuff where there is time to think and brood and start to tilt a little.Additionally, Diggs turns 30 in November. His prime has maybe 2-3 years remaining. This is as good a theory as I've ever read and maybe that's why wide receivers seem particularly prone to it.I have no data to back this up, just my general misanthropy. Yeah, I can see the same traits that make them great in the first place might work against them latter on in their careers. Many top WRs are pretty damn petulant and moody.I don’t think these guys are entirely rational. They also have, like, one job that is directly connected to the QB alone. "Throw me the damn ball" -- obviously it's more complicated than that, but WRs have way fewer responsibilities on the field. They (should but) don't have to think about protection schemes, time, etc. and are probably the most removed of anyone from the other 8-10 guys on their side of the ball.Yeah, I can see the same traits that make them great in the first place might work against them latter on in their careers. The flip side to this is that Diggs may feel like too much credit goes to Allen when he (Diggs) feels that Allen only became an MVP candidate after Diggs arrived. If Diggs' move here is to divorce himself from Allen to team up with Jones (even with Daboll) than his judgment is severely out of whack. Here's what Lombardi said. It's a report that Rodgers was contacted by the Pats to possibly play here but he chose to sign with NYJ instead. No idea of the veracity.
His prime may be over quicker than that. The list of WRs 30 and over still even in the league is short and ones that are productive is much shorter.Additionally, Diggs turns 30 in November. It really is incredible how small the list is of WRs over 30 who were still superstars. His prime may be over quicker than that. The list of WRs 30 and over still even in the league is short and ones that are productive is much shorter.
All this with the rules intentionally limiting what defensive secondaries can do.It really is incredible how small the list is of WRs over 30 who were still superstars.
You lose like 1.6% of your burst and quickness and you go from 2nd team all pro to a possession receiver a team might use in a pinch. All this with the rules intentionally limiting what defensive secondaries can do.
Related to my "he's probably the first one who knows he's getting old" theory -- I think "throw me the damn ball" is close. If Diggs is aware that he's slipping just enough to start making a difference, then he's also probably aware which type of plays (or exact plays) can hide whatever he's lost. It's not like he's suddenly useless, but he could be worried that if they keep using him at 30 like they did at 27, it will start being more noticeable. (Obviously, I'm spitballing from a spitballed premise, but aging --and otherwise healthy -- star players have always intrigued me.They also have, like, one job that is directly connected to the QB alone. According to a tip received by Local 10 News, at around 6 p.m. Sunday, Hill got into some kind of disagreement with an employee of one of the charter companies based at Haulover Marina that apparently ended with Hill hitting the man.
Dolphins' Tyreek Hill under investigation in alleged altercation - ESPNMiami sports radio show host Andy Slater reported that Hill slapped the employee on the back of the head but that the employee has declined to press charges at this time.
interesting story. Does kind of avoid discussing that during that time the kids were with him, he went to jail again for assault.A heartwarming story about - of all people - Adam Pacman Jones. A rare success story about someone emotionally immature growing up, making good, and making the world a better place.
Maybe he could mentor Jack Jones.A heartwarming story about - of all people - Adam Pacman Jones. A rare success story about someone emotionally immature growing up, making good, and making the world a better place.
Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com took issue with that report and set the record straight on Hopkins.
“I think they’re completely out on DeAndre Hopkins,” Cabot said during an appearance on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland on June 29. “Somebody got that all revved up against [Wednesday] and it’s funny. Sometimes people wait until the national media says something. But if I’m telling you they aren’t in on DeAndre Hopkins, you can take that to the bank.”
