Astros leading the Blue Jays 10-0 heading into 8th. Ronel Blanco gave up a walk to start the game but has been pretty, pretty good since.

He did it! Only one walk, too.

Blanco had never pitched more than 6 innings in a game in his pro career before tonight (8 starts). Pretty crazy.

Mets are trying to lose a game they led going into the 8th AND get no-hit on the same day.

Edit: a combined no-hitter. Manning was removed with 2 outs in 6th.

SNY, the Mets broadcast, in the 8th inning of a game they are getting no-hit in... just put up an overlay of how much the Tigers have been struggling as a team over the last decade.

Awesome.

Will there ever be another no no? I mean, there will barely even be any complete games this year.

I know there will be some CGs. There were like 35 last year. There are guys who can throw them. Alcantara, Eovaldi. I'm not saying there will be none. But I doubt that number is going up, and if anything it is likely to go down.

The chances of a no no when we're looking at like one complete game a week starts to get pretty low. I guess a guy is more likely to be kept in the game if he's working on a no hitter. I just think it's going to be more and more rare.

That was a no-hitter, not just a complete game.

Right -- I got it. You missed the follow up post where I admitted to being a moron.

I think the reason you might have missed it was that I posted it in the Dune Part 2 thread, though. Proving the point.

Hahaha, that made me laugh.

Your general point is certainly correct, just a funny time to make it three days after one actually happened. The Blue Jays just set an alltime franchise record for fewest hits in a 3 game series with 9 (0, 8, 1), there are a lot of teams out there having trouble hitting right now.

Very kind of you -- but I botched that one. Yeah, decreases in hitting especially in the colder parts of the season could contribute to letting starters go longer I think. And of course there's the As. After watching them for 3 days, they seem like a potential no hitter candidate every time they take the field.

I wonder if they give him another inning.
After what happened with Lorenzen, who was terrible after his no-hitter, I would not risk Wheeler if I were them. Let's say he gets through the eighth in 10-12 pitches. You almost have to let him start the ninth, and that's how you wind up with him throwing 130 pitches this early in the season.
