Chiefs select CB -Buster Skrine

He is 23 years old and was getting a lot of playing time with the Browns.  Should be just fine as my third CB behind Haden and Talib

Hoo-hoo-hoo hoosier land.
Colts select *MLB Pat Angerer.* Looked great two years ago, and then got hurt last season and played poorly when he came back. But to paraphrase Iron Mike, he hits like a fucking mule kicks. He's young, he's one of the better tacklers in the league when he's right, and still has plenty of upside.

The Bears select C Lyle Sendlein.

I need to complete my OL, and the remaining C are either older or worse, or both. And I ain't trusting a rookie C.

Edit - Could someone PM SMU or KFP?

Manny Lawson, OLB2

We needed someone to fill out our final spot in the front seven. At this point we want a guy who was a vet and could offer us someone who did everything at an adequate to + level but nothing ++ or spectacular. Someone who has a solid game and can help defeat the run while being the first man out in nickel packages.

Lawson is that guy. He is a solid reliable vet who can do everything well but nothing flashy or incredible.

Lawson is solid in all phases but spectacular in none

-FO

Lawson is going to be used more aggressively in Buffalo. We would only want him to help set the edge/contain and blow up the run. We also might ask him to help out with blitzes if we ever want to send 5.

Aside from last year in which he was a slight negative rating PFF tends to like Lawson. In all but 2012 he had a positive rating usually from +2 to +8. So a solid B+ player in an already stacked front 7. We'll take it.
Also - he's only 28 now and 29 when the season starts. He should have 3-4 years left in the tank at the minimum.

This is how we envision Lawson stopping the run for us.

The Short Bus
With the 22nd pick in the 23rd round, the Intercourse Panthers select

Brandon Weeden, QB, Cleveland

About the best thing we can say about him is ...... he's not horribly inaccurate.  Using the PFF "Accuracy Percentage" stat, which accounts for dropped passes (his receivers dropped a lot) and batted throws (he had 21, the most in the league), he comes in at 72.4%, 12th best in the league.  And that's about all we are going to say about that.

The Chargers select:

Jordan Poyer, CB

I believe he is one of the overlooked CB's in the class this year because he doesn't dazzle people with his speed.  He's a tough physical corner who has really good ball skills and we welcome to man the slot in San Diego.

Heading into this draft, I didn't think I'd be making this pick, but I've convinced myself that he'll be able to run an NFL offense and our team is constructed to (hopefully) take advantage of his skills and limit his weaknesses.

With our next pick in the draft, the Jnai Dolphins select QB Matt Barkley

If he came out last year, he would've been drafted a hell of a lot higher, but has seen his stock drop due to a relatively poor senior season and concerns about arm strength. Having watched a number of his games and done way too much research, I'm hopeful that our strong offensive line, running game, and big physical receivers will help Barkley stay within himself and not try to do too much.

He ran a pro style offense at USC, makes good pre-snap reads and is strong in the short to intermediate passing game.  His offensive line his senior season let him down and was constantly facing pressure, causing him to force throws and increase his INT's. While he had talented receivers, they couldn't help with pass protection. He's a leader (3 year captain), stayed in school to try to win a championship after the program dealt with NCAA violations, and has all of the intangibles you look for in a QB.

We're hopeful that Keenan Allen, Andrew Hawkins and Dwayne Allen will offer Barkley the short to medium downfield targets he needs to succeed and Sanu offers him a big target in red zone situations.  He struggles throwing the deep ball, but that won't be the focus of our offense.  Clady and Pouncey lead our offensive line, with road grading rookies at the guards and a veteran in Strief at RT; hopefully this combination of talent, youth and experience leads to a line that Barkley can count on to keep him upright.

This is most definitely a hit or miss pick, but since this team is built on youth and upside, we felt it was more appropriate than going with one of the leftover NFL QB's who have already shown they aren't franchise QBs. If we could take one to allow Barkley a season to ride the pine, we'd do it, but I'm hopeful that his experience leading a NFL style offense in college will help him make a quick transition to the pros.

I had Sanchez Junior on my list, but kept passing (no pun intended).  There's just something about him that bugs me, but I can't put my finger on it right now.

Edit: I'm the last one to pick a QB and it looks like I'll get the guy I targeted about 15 rounds ago.

The Varmint Cong will continue the run of rookies they've been selecting lately.  With our 23rd round pick, we select Tharold Simon, CB, LSU.  He's a taller CB, in the mold of Browner and Sherman, but maybe not as quick.  I may end up with him outside and Winfield moved into the slot.

Can't upload a pic for some reason, so we'll have to go without for now.

where the darn libs live
two things -- Vance McDonald isn't listed on my roster as the FB/jack of all trades guy.

I'll select another rookie ILB -- Jon Bostic, ILB.  Hits hard.  Not the fastest guy, but looks to be someone who could be a real force in the  NFL regardless.

Nice pick Laddie. I've seen scouting reports that sight his quickness as an issue, but he had a decent 40 (4.6) and a decent 3 cone (6.99), so maybe it just hasn't transferred to the field yet. Could be a steal here.

The Green Bay Packers select Tracy Porter, CB.  We will be throwing him at FS for our team since the rest of the players at this position either don't start or are terrible.  The obvious risk here is that he is a little undersized at FS and his head is a hot mess, but if he can play close to how he did in New Orleans in coverage for a player we picked in round 23 than awesome.

The Denver Broncos select.... Trevardo Williams, OLB

I need to pick an outside linebacker who can rush the passer.  I need to pick my first rookie.  Luckily, I can cross both those needs off my list with Williams.  He's from Jamaica so you know he's fast (4.57 40 time, best among DLs and 3rd among LBs).  He's put up 24 sacks the past two years with UCONN.  He can play DE in a 4-3 or a slightly undersized OLB in a 3-4 (at 6-1, 241 lbs.)  He'll probably be a mid-round pick in the draft, but I'm hoping his athleticism and ability to get to the quarterback will pay dividends for my defense.

Sorry, I did see this afternoon I would likely pick tonight, but got well sidetracked.

The Saints select RG Tyronne Green

He apparently has a case of Cee Lo arms, which complicate his effectiveness in run blocking. But, he's young-ish, appears to have locked down a starting gig in SD, and at 6-2, 316 has the size and power to be an effective interior lineman.

Vikings will select Jeff Allen, LG and Greg Zuerlein, K.

Allen took over when Lilja moved to Center for KC last year.  While he didn't have a great season (he had an ankle injury over the summer, and who in KC did last year?) he was well regarded coming out of Illinois.  ProFootballWeekly called him one of the best pure pass protectors in the 2012 Draft Class and cited his durability, versatility (was an OT in college) and football smarts.

Was hoping to grab Walsh with my next set of picks, but seeing as how he and others are already off the board, I'm happy with Greg the Leg here.  With an offense featuring a rookie QB we consider it a great asset to have a kicker of his range, as we foresee a lot of long range FGs in the next couple years.  "Legatron" should also help us with the field position battle be limiting the amount of kickoffs returned by our competition.  We hope that Zuerlein will hopefully continue to build on his strong rookie year.

Saints select MLB Dan Connor

Connor has been inconsistent as a pro, but he is solid against the run, and will have a chance to re-establish himself after signing a one-year contract with the Giants.

Technically, Laddie is up but I'm not sending him a PM at this time. Both PDBWake and Dollar should get most of the day to pick, given the circumstances.

I want the distraction of picks as much as anyone but everyone processes and deals differently.

There are only 5 rounds left and we've all been moving a tremendous pace. We're only 2 rounds behind the baseball draft and they started over a month before us.

I think it would be a good idea to postpone the clock window indefinitely (maybe into this weekend or something), and if necessary to just postpone the draft for a few days.

At this point most people need to fill out K, P and 3 other positions. A small break could be good for those who want to do some research on these last couple of picks too. Pretty easy to research 5 positions. And then get back at this thing next week.

Yeah... I was thinking about an idea with KFP. Maybe now is a good time to bring it up.

We aren't going to have a lot of depth for our teams. So if one or two guys get hurt any time before the season we don't have much ti go by.

We could attempt to address this by having a very fast 5 round draft 2 weeks before the season starts. That way we can get depth to key positions.

We've already talked about building onto these rosters in the coming years annually. Why not start with this year? It would suck to not be able to compete at all just because a guy or two got hurt in training camp and missed the entire season.

I like this idea. Anything that can add players and depth to our team is a good idea. At this point if you take a shot on one offensive lineman who doesn't pan out you have no one to replace them. We all have taken some risk with players so waiting a few months and giving everyone an option to pick up a few players (well after the draft and with an idea if rookies are going to start), seems like a good option to me.

I was going to suggest this exact idea. We should go reverse draft order so the folks at the bottom get first crack at backup QBs or whatever.

I'm in agreement with everything above. If people want to pick great, if not then we wait. I also like the idea of getting some more back up depth, in another draft at a later date.
