The Redskins go back to the rookie well yet again, and select:

Gerald Hodges, OLB, Penn State

I need a SLB.  He is a SLB.  Rest of the NFL options left are underwhelming.  Maybe he will be too.  Whatever.  Go get 'em, DoDM.

Like Mascho said options are getting thin at this point so with a few positions of need left I'm just going to skip those and take the highest guy on my board.

The San Francisco 49ers select: RB, Johnathan Franklin

The buzz on this guy has really taken off recently. I've seen a couple reports of teams having him leapfroging Lacy on their draft boards (who was taken 10 rounds ago).

He' best suited as a complimentary back. Check, behind David Wilson.

He's good in pass protection (though could use some work). Check, as my 3rd down RB.

He stopped fumbling his senior year. Check mate.

Sorry for being late to the party with this pick, but real life gets in the way.  I pick RG Stephen Peterman.  He was last with the Lions in 2012 and had a subpar season in pass blocking. He was one of the best guards in the league in 2011, so I think at this late in the draft I have good value.

I did not draft this Peterman, but the one below.

DoDM dashed my dreams of passing the torch from one UCLA star back to another.  Instead, I'm going to stretch a little bit and draft Jordan Reed as my slot WR.  While Reed gets listed as a TE, he's really one of these "Joker" players that defies conventional positional categories and could just as easily be considered a WR. He arrived at Florida as a QB, tried his hand at the RB position (and still lines up there on occasion), and finally settled in this year as a "TE" that almost always lined up in the slot and made his name as a dangerous receiver and open field runner.   He's a poor man's Aaron Hernandez on the field and has bizarrely extensive similarities to Weedz in other ways as another Connecticut kid who attended UF and had a few attitude/behavior issues along the way.  I think he'll be a useful slot receiver for us who will also add a little positional versatility and deception with his ability to line up inline or in the backfield on occasion.

Feels like it's been forever since I picked.

The LA Rams are going to select CB Leonard Johnson.

Johnson was a UDFA this season, but played pretty well according to scouting I've read and PFF. He had one of his best games of the year in an emergency start against Atlanta at the end of the year, matching up against the likes of Julio Jones and Roddy White. I like his upside as the nickel back here, although I'd always like to throw more against the wall if I can.

Myt Patriots select their nickleback:

um, this guy:

D.J. Moore, CB

He's had a couple of good seasons, especially when covering the slot.  He was having a very good year last year until he injured his ankle.  And he hates Jay Cutler.

Orson Charles, TE

Had trouble finding a picture of him in a Bengals uniform because he barely played at all as a rookie this year, but he did manage to impress:

"I knew he was a big, strong guy," said Marvin Lewis. "But his ability to run and catch the ball has been impressive." Although Charles has his hands full learning responsibilities in both the run and pass game, OC Jay Gruden is impressed that "physically he's shown things that are very exciting" and "his strength is unreal."

A big strong guy who can block and maybe catch a ball or two; might surprise some people next year. He has a DUI under his belt, though driving drunk might be a team-sanctioned drill in Cincy.

I think I could take this guy later, but I don't have anyone else prepared and I don't want to hold everyone up.  He's currently a FA, has injury concerns, is old but he's my extra front-7 guy and if he plays this season it will be for a contender.  I think he still has some left in the tank, but he isn't an every down guy anymore.

Texans select Brian Urlacher, LB (extra front-7, ILB2 in my case with the 4-3 base)

Its also a great excuse to post this gif...

Haven't talked to Pam in a while. He might have a sleeper I don't know about.

I'm too focused on the real NFL draft to worry about this thread now.

OK, I'm going to complete my defense, then.

The Cleveland Ravens select

OLB James Harrison, Bengals

At 34 (35 next month), Harrison is much nearer the end than the beginning, but he's still a very productive player - 70 tackles (10 for loss) last year and 6 sacks. He'll play strong-side OLB and provide toughness, run D, and blitz ability on early downs. He'll come off the field most of the time in passing situations. With Irvin as the young pass-rusher, Tulloch and Harris as the do-everything MLBs, and Harrison the run-stuffer on the other end, I feel good about my linebackers.

My defense in general is solid. I used four of my first five picks on offense, so I don't have the star power of some of the other D's out there, but I don't have any glaring holes either. And depending on the development of young turks Irvin, Coples, Gilmore, and Vaccaro, star power can emerge. We're primarily a one-gap 3-4 but with the ability to two-gap some and play a 4-3 under look. In the nickel, Harrison will come off and it will be more of a 4-2-5, with Irvin moving up to DE.

Thanks for the PM guys! Or not, as is actually the case.

The Tactical Turtlenecks are going to round out their offensive line with the one and only...
C-J.D. Walton

He had beaten out Koppen for the starting spot before hurting his ankle and missing the rest of the year, and the Broncos have already declared him their starter for next year. If not for his injury he probably would be have been picked long ago, so we're glad to have him.

In fact he was picked long ago.

EDIT: and ESC PM'd

Christ I am so not happy with my CBs that I'm willing to play dime the WHOLE game.

I'm picking a developing OLB2 prospect in Sio Moore, a local product out of UConn.

Taken already, and you still don't have any defensive slots available. You need to pick a WR (you have two slots open), a OG, or a K/P.

With their pick the Patriots are going to select Jah Reid LG

Reid was a productive tackle throughout his college career at UCF, but was seen as a developmental prospect when he was drafted. He's practiced in the pros at multiple positions and ended up being thrust into the guard position during the year for the Ravens. He didn't play fantastically but he held his own for learning a new position. His scouting reports say he's very agile for his size, 6'7" 335 lbs, and plays fluidly with great balance and has a natural bend when setting in his stance. He also keeps his pad levels low and has good footwork and a great explosive pop. I think he compliments my o line well in which everyone is tall with good length, agility, strength, and versatility. I think I have the tallest guards in the league at 6'7" and 6'8"... thankfully my QB is 6'6". I was going to go with another college guy here but at 24 Reid is far from old and he already has a couple years experience in the pros.

I really like the way my o-line turned out. I feel like they have exceptional size but all of them are agile enough to run a zone blocking scheme. I think Lacy and James are going to have a lot of room to run.

Hmm - the draft board has an open OLB2 slot. But I did pick Roy Miller in a previous pick.

I'm picking a developmental WR in a Sooner: Kenny Stills

Yeah, your chart is missing Junior Galette (presumably an OLB in your system?).

After this rush of work is over I'd like to do a better job in explaining how the D may work. Thanks for keeping this on track!

I'm actually pretty bummed about Harrison. Obvious fit, but I think he's really good value here. Way past his prime, but still a player.

I don't think Harrison has every really gotten his due.  His four year run from 2007-2010 was one of the greatest stretches by any LB in the history of the game.  His 29 combined FF and INT over that period is completely insane, practically forcing a turnover every other game.  Add to that 45 sacks and fantastic run defense for an OLB, plus one of the biggest game-changing plays ever in a Super Bowl.  That's a Koufaxian prime.

Nick McDonald, C

I think he's going to win the RG job for the Patriots this season. The last guy to spend this much time at Dante's Finishing School was picked in the 8th round after one solid year as a starter. I think McDonald has similar potential as a starter in the NFL. He's not really a center, but he has played there. And at this point, I'm looking for a solid contributor with upside, but a minimum level of performance - i.e. don't get Brady killed. He's trusted to not Brady killed in the real world and now he's being trusted to not get Brady killed in the RFP.

The San Rafael Raiders select...

Kansas City Chiefs FS Kendrick Lewis

We have had our eye on him for some time, ever since he concussed Evan Moore with a helmet to helmet hit and was fined five stacks for his troubles. He's just 24, and we hope that he has many more fines ahead of him in the silver and black. We thought about him last round and the round before that, and we're thrilled that we can throw him into our patchwork secondary.

And we'll fill out that patchwork secondary with someone who could very well be a terrible person. Someone who may well have accepted bounties for hurting opposing players. He sort of vaguely apologized for/denied his role in bountygate with some terrible poetry - http://withleather.uproxx.com/2012/03/jabari-greer-responded-to-bounty-accusations-with-a-poem - but we think there could be some significant upside here in terms of CB Jabari Greer potentially being a terrible human being.

Jabari, welcome to the Raider Nation.

Alright, change of plans. With the talent level thin at most of our areas of need and unlikely to be depleted much further in the next couple rounds, the Tactical Turtlenecks are going to go BPA and add another horse to the RB stable.
RB-Christine Michael

He may be a bit of a risk, but the talent level here is immense, and frankly I don't think anyone left in the draft has Michael's ceiling. He may be an injury risk, a headcase, and an asshole...but he could be a superstar, and we're just asking him to share carries for now.

I felt a little torn on the Lewis pick. Let's just say there were two other WAY more Branch Davisian picks available, but I felt like I had to get a FS and some youth...

Love this pick. I think his talent level is among the best in the draft and his red flags are a little overblown.
