Might be circling back to Soler.Corner OF options are getting slim.
Was there really any bluster other than one tweet that he later refuted? After all that bluster about Suzuki preferring warm weather, he goes and signs with Chicago.
Damn it. I loved watching him hit for us and he seemed to love it here. Eager to see the terms but it seems like a real missed opportunity.Schwarber to Philly possibly.

I’m torn on this. With the way the current system is set up at the higher level, the contract situation with Bogaerts, and the biggest weakness of this team being infield defense, I will be very disappointed if the major signing this year if Freeman rather than Correa.
Correa is 26, immediately fixes both the defense and Bogaerts problem, and is a much better fit for 2023-2030 than Freeman.
I LOVE Freeman. He’s an unbelievable player but I just can’t see the fit especially with Correa is sitting right there and Casas is a year away.
I think ultimately JD opting in ended this.Damn it. I loved watching him hit for us and he seemed to love it here. Eager to see the terms but it seems like a real missed opportunity.
Starting to get a little itchy. Be nice if Bloom would improve the team somewhat. The likeliest outcomes for Freeman and Correa are Los Angeles and Houston and I’m not sure where that leaves us. Not a big Kris Bryant guy and certainly not wild about Soler or Castellanos playing right field.
Schwarber feels like a cheesesteak man and all we could offer were Italian sausages. Sometimes it's just not a fit.
Now I'm ambivalent. You have one of the very best avatars and I don't want to have to look at Heyman unless absolutely necessary.Casey Close must pay Heyman by the tweet. This is like the 5th time he’s linked the Sox to Freeman today.
If we actually sign Freeman I’ll change my avatar to Heyman’s face.
Maybe I missed something but the only bluster I recall was one tweet in which the poster incorrectly claimed that Suzuki had signed with the Padres. After all that bluster about Suzuki preferring warm weather, he goes and signs with Chicago.
This is very generous; fangraphs projects 2.2 WAR.I think i am done waiting on Chaim.
Suzuki fits a glaring need. He has the chance to be a transcendent player. And he is CHEAP by MLB standards.
You didn't attend Blusterthon 2022?Was there really any bluster other than one tweet that he later refuted?
This likely should be broken out into a new thread.
But there’s a market for JD. Nelson Cruz was reportedly pursued by the Dodgers, Padres, Rays, Twins, Braves and Brewers and signed with the freaking Nats for $15M. He’s 7 years older than JDM and posted a 122 wRC+ last year to JD’s 128.I think ultimately JD opting in ended this.
The thing that Suzuki refuted was that he had signed (with the Padres), to my understanding. The report from Nikkan Sports, a Japanese outlet cited in this NBC Sports article and elsewhere, said he had preferred a warm climate. I’m not sure if the two notions were conflated all along and don’t know the credibility of Nikkan Sports, but since both items were reported separately and Suzuki didn’t address the weather stuff, it seemed like part of the discourse.Maybe I missed something but the only bluster I recall was one tweet in which the poster incorrectly claimed that Suzuki had signed with the Padres.
Again ... how does one f-ing report equate to "all that bluster"?The thing that Suzuki refuted was that he had signed (with the Padres), to my understanding. Vlad’s best position is DH….which doesn’t mean he agreed, of course. With Chapman and vlad they have their corner guys. Schwarber makes more sense for them now
I mean…c’mon. How often does a stress fracture of a rib throwing a pitch happen?
Dude it was a tossed off line meant to play off Windy City and supported by mainstream reporting. Go police something else.Again ... how does one f-ing report equate to "all that bluster"?
It sucks, but this seems premature. Sox did pretty well last year without Sale for most of the year. Also lost E-Rod but got some decent rotation depth. Division has gotten better but offseason not done yet and I think safe to assume the Sox have some more moves in them (hopefully an impact move or two). This likely should be broken out into a new thread.
As should a discussion of top prospects for the 2023 Draft.
This seems to be Chaim's M.O. Let's all be prepared for a Hunter Renfroe type acquisition. Either it'll work (as well as Renfroe did) or it'll be Franchy 2.0. I'm getting ready for the inevitable Jorge Soler signing. Oh boy.Correa, Bryant, Story, Castellanos still out there, as well as Soler, Conforto, Rosario, Pham, Pederson.
Maybe Chaim is waiting to make his big splash at the last second, but it sure looks like the team doesn’t want to sign players to multi-year deals, which really limits the kind of players you can get.
Very frustrating off-season.
The plan is hope. Hope that they overachieve again.Jays were a 100 win team last year by Pythag, and they appear to be improved. Rays are the Rays. Yankees have certainly gotten better. Hooray for expanded postseason, but man, the AL East is looking pretty tough and the current Sox squad looks worse than the one they ended last season with. What’s the plan for this season?
That’s a fine contract IMO. He’s still under 30 and 20M per will be standard DH-only dollars.Schwarber gets a 4 yr. deal. Congrats Kyle wanted you back but not for 4 years.

"Kyle Schwarber, pending physical, is a 4-year agreement with an AAV just under $20 million per year."
I agree that it‘s hard to wait and watch in particular the Yankees and Blue Jays seem to improve their rosters more than the Red Sox this past week, but I don’t share your frustration with Chaim. To me, he earned a substantial amount of benefit of the doubt by getting to the ALCS last season thanks in part to smart under the radar moves.I think i am done waiting on Chaim.
I thought he was a bit older and he has only been a Major Leaguer since 2015. Getting old time flies (referring to me, not Schwarber). That’s a fine contract IMO. He’s still under 30 and 20M per will be standard DH-only dollars.
Totally agree... I am watching his press conference - and getting notifications of signings and trades at the exact same moment. He comments about sweating from jogging.... while other GMs are busy working phones and drinking coffee to make it through. He just seems to be standing on the side and not ready to jump in the deep end with the AL East teams... not that a big splash needs to be made, but work with Devers on a contract or Boggie..I agree that it‘s hard to wait and watch in particular the Yankees and Blue Jays seem to improve their rosters more than the Red Sox this past week, but I don’t share your frustration with Chaim. I’m trying to wait to see what other shoes drop before passing judgment.
He grades as a +2 over the last three years by defensive runs saved. For context, Olson is +21 over that time, Rizzo is +3, Dalbec -7 last year alone.I'm pretty bad at interpreting advanced fielding stats, especially for first baseman, but it looks like Freeman grades pretty poorly on that front. I know he's won Gold Gloves, but... yeah, someone make me feel better about Freeman's defense. A cold reading on Fangraphs and B-Ref has him as not too dissimilar to Bobby Dalbec, whose first base defense was not pretty.
Thanks. That news came out 2 hours ago -- it's amazing that you're the first to post it here on this board filled with baseball diehards.I know you guys wanted him.

Actually, looking a page back the news is there from Japan, but all the US reporters are reporting it now.Thanks. That news came out 2 hours ago -- it's amazing that you're the first to post it here on this board filled with baseball diehards.
Yeah, still waiting on Bloom's "gear shift" into signing some big free agents that some posters were so certain would happen (I think some were projecting Suzuki AND Schwarber AND Correa). Suzuki such an obvious fit, and wouldn't break the bank. Damn shame.I think i am done waiting on Chaim.
Suzuki fits a glaring need. He has the chance to be a transcendent player. And he is CHEAP by MLB standards.
I rarely post on the main board (queue the "why did you start now" eyerolls) because I don't bring much value. but i am so frustrated at the moment.
I believe the 5/85 includes the posting fee.
They're Blusterthon veterans.Amazed at how many posters here are in the room with Chaim and know exactly how hard he’s working.
