I believe that Barstool separating from Penn will prove to be a win for both sides. I also love to imagine a fake scenario where Big Cat has to go in front of a Federal judge and explain that the "Cant Lose Parlay" actually can lose sometimes.
It already is for Penn. I was told that the Bartsool brand, and Portnoy specifically, was a huge albatross with the regulatory and licensing folk. Penn is already doing much better business with their new branding and substantially larger digital footprint.

Who were the old owners?
Used to listen to her Token CEO podcast and can remember an episode where she talked about getting hired by BS and as part of the interview process she had dinner with Portnoy, Big Cat and KFC. Figured they were party guys so she ordered a glass of wine with the dinner and then watched the other three just order waters because they were about business.
That may be true, but it also sounds like a story one would tell publicly to suck up to their boss, and Portnoy loves a good sycophant.

Not sure if this is tongue-in-cheek, but this situation actually occurred and it was as ridiculous as you'd imagine.

Ha! No, I had not seen that before, but that is a great article. Thank you for posting that link!

I have followed Barstool and the gambling content for years now, but I never got in the weeds of all the regulations and legal language.

Very funny considering that if you had told me 10 years ago that sports betting would be legal in this state, I would not have believed it. Seeing that Barstool has its roots in Boston, and they had been going heavy into the gambling content for years, I figured that it would be a match made in heaven. The Sports Advisors with Stu Feiner is a must watch for me during football season.

Wasn’t part of the agreement of Penn selling Barstool back to Portnoy exclusive of exactly this?

I could be misremembering. Maybe they aren’t operating the sports book and just advertising for DraftKings.

Portnoy bought Barstool back from Penn in early August, so safe to assume there was a 6 month non-compete.

Can someone tell me what the stakes were behind this 41 free throws in a row stream they have been doing? Looks like they finally ended it.

If it's like any of the other silly streams they do (I know they had a guy spend 3 days trying to get a hole in one on a golf simulator), there probably were none. Googling quickly, it looks like the Heat as a team hit 40 FTs in row earlier in January (link below). My guess is someone at BS decided to see if they could beat that. From listening to Pardon My Take, when the built the Chicago office they added a bunch of stuff - a basketball court and golf simulator as two easy examples - with the idea of generating this sort of content.

The stakes were just that they couldn't leave unless they completed it. It was also a tie-in to the partnership with DraftKings where it was a free-to-play game where you could win a share of $100,000. It's all just to create content and get eyeballs for sponsors.

I know he isn't well liked here, but Portnoy rescued a pit bull and is making tons of content with the dog. Documenting her progress, ups and downs etc. I think he made shirts with her on them, with proceeds going to rescue organizations.

I'm sure some will say he did it just for content, but as a pit bull lover who's adopted, fostered and rescued pit bulls, I thought it's nice.

I'm sorry to say, he did it for content.

Hitler liked dogs too. (Yes, I know that's the snarky expected joke but I couldn't help myself. I'm not made of stone).

More seriously, Portnoy is overall a pretty terrible person but like all people he's likely a bit complicated and contradictory. So it doesn't shock me he once showed a kind, human side of himself regarding the pits.

Yeah I mean I pretty much loathe Portnoy, and definitely think he did it for the content...but the end result is a pittie got rescued and rescue orgs are going to receive proceeds from t shirt sales, and most likely will benefit from more notoriety and some additional funds as a result of that. Teela (my rescue pup thats 80% or so pit) approves.

At random times during confinement, Klemmer will get a key that opens one of the locker doors. Inside the locker will be his challenge. If completed correctly, Klemmer will be rewarded. If Klemmer fails, he will be punished.
Just flush the key down the toilet. "To hell with your stupid challenges."

Or that he's presumably raising a bunch of money for charity?

I find it funny the hoops and caveats people place before acknowledging he's doing a good thing. Given how awesome dogs are and how public this is, I also can't imagine it will be a "this is fun content" and the dog will be abandoned in a couple months.

I find it funny how aggressive you get up on the weirdest fucking walls, dude. The subject always seems to matter a lot less than the target.

I find it funny when people tie themselves into knots to keep their preconceived notions of people in light of actual actions. Plenty of other examples on this board, mostly in V&N I imagine especially around this time of year, but I largely avoid those areas outside a handful of threads. We’re all entertained by different things and here for different reasons.

This one in particular feels like a lot of ESG efforts where Walmart adopts LED lights because it’s better for the environment and also cheaper. I don’t really care if they were or were not altruistic in their efforts but the end result is good.

I’d also classify my post as wholly passive aggressive.

Wait, he works at Barstool?

And having access to a chat is in no way solitary.'

Still, I say he breaks like in the last challenge he assured us was easy, staying married forever.

(yes, that was mean.)

There have be a few analytics kiddies at Barstool who are marveling at Klemmer's fittingly narrow but incredibly devoted group of online followers. Even if they filter out fellow fantasy owners.

Edit: if he has a chat with viewers, how long till user EricNVan logs in?
